GEC Cuban Cigar Patterns #53 & #54

While I can't answer your question I wonder if it has to do with the stockman like set up? I believe the 54 are only in two blade or whittler set ups? Also is the an SFO? If so it they might have asked for half stops and then because it is more like a cattleman/stockman GEC labeled it as a 53? Well that's my spit ball guess until someone else chimes in.

On another train of thought those 4 bladed 53 seem like they would be very heavy in the pocket, is that so?
This knife was modded by someone, without a doubt. I dont know of a 53 produced with a bail. Somone put that on. The 4 blade feels like a large camp knife, if that makes sense. If you wear jeans, it'll be fine. If you wear khakis to work, you won't like. The 53 4 blades are built very much like a 2 blade. Single sprung opposite end jack. Like a TK Cuban kind of with some extra liner space. The 3 blades are like a single blade, single spring for the main and a two blade single spring for the spey and sheep. I still am curious as to the 53 pattern having half stops on the three blade......

This one found its way to my door today.👍

It joins my modest group of 53s.

Also, thankyou to those who have shared pics of your collection. I love the 53 and 54 knives and there are some great examples in this thread.

Jiki, thank you for reviving this thread! I had forgotten about it, and in the last few months I was able to complete my collection of the #5383xx knives, 53 in all.
For posterity, here they are in order as posted in the GEC production totals.

Jeff -- please don't do posts like this without offering a trigger warning first. I am catatonic right now, marveling at this colleciton...o_O :p :D

In all seriousness, that is just fantastic. Thanks for sharing!

Thoroughly enjoyed going through this thread. Would be cool if GEC did a big run of these. I know they did a ton in “the early years.”

Some really fantastic collections, I especially like Modoc ED Modoc ED Northfield Harnes Jack Stag Cuban Cigar 542208.

A 53 frame revisit would definitely be nice, if I got to pick I would go for the Cattle series. However a Cuban or Castro run wouldn't hurt my feelings.

I am happy to report that my Exotic Mexican Bocote, after 14 years as safe queen, is getting an opportunity to fulfill it's potential as the knife it has always wanted to be. Sliced up some tomatoes and mozzarella for the stuffed mushrooms last night and did a number on my pear at lunch today.

Thanks for all the nice thoughts on my addiction . . . er collection! ;) Really, I'm a little lost now that I don't have anything specific to look for. It's gotten so much harder and more expensive to buy GECs now that I hope they don't bring out any more of the #5383xx knives. I doubt I'd be able to keep it going.

Did a search and this is the thread that seemed the most relevant.

Looks like DLT has some 54 Big Jacks coming real soon.

Makes me wonder if GEC has anything else in the works aside from DLT's SFO and the 53 Electrician's Knife.

The larger equal end knives from GEC confuse me sometimes. When is a #54 a #53, and when is a #53 a "Cuban"??
I have been wondering the same thing. Since Charlie posed this very innocent question in the Let's talk GEC thread on 4/18, there has been these two announcements for a 53 and 54 release.
