GEC Cuban Cigar Patterns #53 & #54

I like it as well. It took me a minute to figure out why it looked a little off. I don't mind the DLT etch (it's better than bunny knife), but you're right, on this particular model it looks better without one...

So funny, same thing happened to me. Holding the knife in hand, not believing I got so lucky to get this sexy, yes I said sexy, knife and something seemed off. Took me about an hour to figure it out. I blame it on being so memorized by the golden blonde ironwood ! Perfectly matching side to side.

To be honest I’m just happy that I was able to score one etch or no etch. It’s such a great pattern. 🤷😀

1,000% agree : )

Does anyone have both the DLT ironwood 53 and the Boker gentlemans club knife in ironwood, I am curious to see the similarities and differences in them both.

these came with what I assume is the Canadian etch ??? ;)

Man the pull on mine is just about the stoutest Ive seen from GEC since the secondary on the whalers. I generally like mine to be pinchable so im still on the fence with it.
Same here. I first called is an 8; then and 8.5 or 9 as it actually was painful to open. After flushing it and working it a bit, it’s back to an 8. Very firm but doable. I will never worry about this closing on me.
Drop an EO notch into it.

I am not having the same experience with mine.
Even though this is probably one of the easiest mods of them all; I am way to scared to try that! I think mine has lessened enough to not necessitate it though… maybe.
Regarding the strong pull. I am noticing that my spring dips in about 1mm at the half stop. What do y'all make of that? My other GECs are proud or flush at the stop.

Mine is the same but it doesn’t bother me at all.

Still a beauty. No regrets!

I also noticed mine is perfectly flush at open and close, but has the same spring drop at half stop - is that spring drop the reason the pulls are so strong? The pull on mine is a 7, not higher, but most are saying 8+……?

I would like to see more DLT SFO 54’s in ebony, cocobolo, red jig, osage, more blue bone, etc. and the DLT oak leaf is one of my favorite shields. Plus, I’m almost certain it was made in PA!

Nice knife!! Looks like dark, Osage orange!!!

The knife looks much better in hand, as they all do. My pictures make the knife seem darker, doesn't show how golden brown ("blonde ironwood" I'm calling it) it really looks and also the darker traces of brown don't show as well. Fit & Finish is exceptional, pull is tough but manageable. Seriously, a 10 of 10 on this run from all of the pictures I have seen.

A couple more shots of mine. It’s not quite as dark as it looks but it does have some very dark areas.

One thing I like about German Bokers is that they seem to be picky about their ironwood. I can’t recall seeing Boker in ironwood that wasn’t a looker, but I’ve seen some duds in this 54 run. I’m not complaining, but seems weird that GEC isn’t more discriminating on a run of 100.
