GEC Fixed Hunters H10, 50 & 60

Fixed blades are probably just a sideline for GEC. But they have a draw for me, and I picked up an H73 in an upland pattern, and I love it.
I am planning on buying another fixed from them, when my wallet allows. I have been looking at the Hess knives also.

As I look at the 73. The first thing that leaps out at me. Is the blade profile and handle placement would make this a great food processing knife. The handle postions your hand above the flat working surface. So you can just slice away. Very cool.

Modern knives with their handles angled down, may work better for tactical reasons. But they leave a lot to be desired in the food and game prep areas.

I have the H50. Love the size and the checkering is sharp on the micarta handle slabs. I have not used it yet. Looking forward to this summer. I have Hess, Battle Horse, and LT Wright knives. The Hess knife is a great little hunting knife. I have the Muley. I would take the Hess over the GEC in a hunting role.

That's a really good looking knife.

The light bulb just came on!

I believe after making a trip to the knife draw. I have figured out the appeal.
The H10 somewhat resembles my Fallkniven Frej (NL-4), and isn't too far removed from my Bark River Manitou.

The Manitou is a slicing machine and the NL-4 looks a lot like the H10. At least in the blade profile.

Will Power,

This is exactly what I am talking about. The lines on your knife are stunning!

Thanks very much! The bone is really nice and it is amazingly sharp

These GEC knives are similar to a 1930s pattern whose name escapes me, but they are more compact than the originals. I still find it odd that the Acorn shield is on the 'wrong' side. Left hander?

Trand has a lot of these type of knives.

Regards, Will

Fine looking knife and with practical but attractive handle slabs. Like it a lot!

Not quite so keen on the new etch though, preferred the Squirrel/Acorn

I've posted this group pic a bunch but you can see the H10s, H73s and H23s that I have. The H23 and H73 have the same handle dimensions as the #23 and #73 folders although the blades are a little longer (tip to bolster). The H10s are definitely lighter than the H23 and H73s although the 2 black canvas ones feel a little more balanced not having end caps (than the ones with ECs). The handle is a little small though. In both length and width. A H23 or H73 might feel better for more prolonged use.

Here are just the 2 H10s together. I've used both. They are FFG and great slicers, much like their folders. Unfortunately I haven't really put them through anything that would task them but I do like these alot. I keep the White Bone one here next to one of my PCs.

I ordered a h10 gec fixed blade with orange marrow bone handles can't wait to use it backpacking

Nice score !!! I have been watching that knife on that website, and will be interested to know if there is an acorn shield on the pile side. Please post some pictures when you can.
Two of the fixed blade knives in this thread have the shield on the pile side, and I am wondering if/ or many others do.
And what would be the reason.

I also am waiting for GEC to post the 2015 production # totals. I am not sure they made any fixed blade knives last year.

Txjohn, those soups are still around if check around. I'd PM you but, you must have it disabled.

Thanks everyone for the great photos and information.

Trand,
That is an impressive array of cutlery.

Well, now that you bring it up..... I am the one who bought that Cocobolo H10 last Thursday.

I have been watching that site, and could not choose between the red soup bone or the Cocobolo. They are both so nice.
When this thread came up, I figured that I better get off the fence.

Makes you think I just thought it looked like a nice knife I got a northfield Barlow that I enjoy and lost my hunting Bowie that was my uncles this season. Going camping and thought it be a nice replacement

H10 from 2014 in Stainless. I am gonna miss the squirrels and the acorn shield.
Smaller than I though, but I am very happy. I do not have many wood handle knives, so this helps.
