GEC Fixed Hunters H10, 50 & 60

I also have one of the micarta/440C models, a very solid and likable fellow. Me, I like how small it is...don't have much use for anything bigger

My Hess Muley has sat pretty much unused. Today that changed. I took it out with me to my fire pit. It was 9 degrees F. I split done some bigger pieces with a small axe. I took two knives out with me. A Marbles Woodcraft and my Hess Muley.

Not so much for a direct comparison. But more of a why an I not using these things. If I don't like them, they need to go, sort of thing.

Well the Woodcraft did well. But the Hess rocked my boat. That thing shaves wood slivers like a bench plane. I was actually a little stunned with how well it did. I had never though about applying it to wood before, because of the edge geometry. But in reality, what is different between a FFG Muley and a Scandi grind? At least at the edge.

Carved up a batch of curleys, feathers, and shavings, awesome performance. Brought it in, stropped it, and it peeled hair off my arm like a straight razor.

I was studying the 73s today before I went out. They seem well built. Nickel silver guards and bolsters, with brass liners. The reason, I grabbed my Hess. Is one site suggests, that since they don't have many GECs, to look at Hess. That got me to thinking.

Needless to say I was impressed.

I have an SFO H10 fixed blade from GEC with the acorn shield and 1095 steel and cocobolo handles on the way. The blades, apparently, were made in 2014, so that'll be reflected in the tang stamp. I'm super excited about it. I love my stainless H10, so managing to score one in 1095 will compliment it quite well--especially getting the acorn shield on a 1095 knife.

Good looking knives here. I have looked at GEC fixed blades numerous times but have never bought one. Someday soon I think I'll go ahead and pull the trigger. Thanks to all for posting these beauties.

I love mine excellent slicer but the blade is a little thin for. Fixed blade and the handle is a little short might just be my monster hands

Sure here you go

Fantastic Looking, Tyler. Thanks for posting.

I saw on a dealers website where they have a SFO of 30 H10s with the acorn shield on the mank side.
The reason stated is so the shield can be seen when in the leather.
makes sense to me.

Looks like GEC is running an SFO of H10s and H60s. Just wanted to make sure that those of you that are fans are aware and have a chance to snag one.

Man, the acronyms in the Traditional forum boggle me. SFO?

Edit #1.
Found the term, Special Factory Order,

Edit #2.
Even found the site. I must be on my game tonight!

Sneaky the way they hide the name right there on the knife like that.

Thanks Cory for the education, and the heads up!

I have one of the short run 77 sheepfoot oily creek bone from last year. I really like the covers, and thought those of you considering the SFO might appreciate the picture.

It might be your "monster hands," but I have smaller hands relative to most of you (W medium, M small) and for me the H10 doesn't just look under-handled, it feels under-handled as well, proportionate to the blade shape, size and presentation. The handle length works okay for me, but not its non-shaped thinness.

I would like to like the knife, but the design doesn't balance for me, visually or in-hand-- I want more to hold onto, somehow. :(

I'm in on a H60 also. I have a H50 with the micarta handles that I really like carrying for hikes. The bone will be easier on the hands. The micarta can be alittle rough. And these are the SS blades. The other sfo with wood handles are in 1095.

The H10 although at 7 inches, feels small and have to agree with pertinux, that it's the handle being too small. It needs more girth. It mainly get used by my daughter as her favorite steak knife.

Got my GEC H10 in 1095 with Cocobolo handle and the acorn shield recently.

The shield is on the opposite side so it shows while in sheath.

Good looking knife, I like the wood grain on your cocobolo. The new sheaths are so much better than the old ones with the funky leather tooling.
