GEC new #43 pattern, who’s excited?

Well Im still waiting. I may just have to order from another dealer next time. I just don't need or want the stress of having to wait and wonder if and when the US post office will get here when they say they will.
Kind of wishing I ordered mine from a different dealer now to but for different reasons . Main one would of been for a different 43 lol
Mine looks like it should of been a second with that horrible paint job .

Think I’m going to put mine back in the tube and throw it in the safe . It’s irritating me just looking at it .
I might just throw it on the block for 50 dollars and think I’ll feel much better lol.

I do like how the knife connection posted up all their frontier bone so you can pick the one your want. They still have about 6 left.

If I’d a known that Gec was going to let them ship as bad as mine was I would of picked one out or not got one at all .You can actually see on the edges of bone we’re it was masked off before hitting the painting booth lol .

Well you do have a micarta reserved. If you hate the frontier bone that much I say keep it and get some custom covers. I think it would look good in carved honey amber stag bone.

I’ve got a Cocobolo reserved but after the poor quality of the covers on the frontier I’m highly considering canceling it . It’s such a nice knife to be tainted by such a cheesy painted bone cover . Sickening actually to think about it .

For some reason i thought you had a micarta reserved. I say stop thinking about what you hate about it and start thinking of a plan to give the knife the covers its begging to have. Like you said its a nice knife. Just think of this as an opportunity to make it better.

It’s hard not think about what I hate about it when all I have to do is look at it lol . Your right though I should but I’m done now it’s back in the tube and more then likely going sell it at a give away price with a full disclosure of course about the covers. Really nice knife but definitely left a bitter taste in my mouth that killed it .
BTW you are correct I did have a micarta reserved but changed it to Cocobolo.
Just canceled all my other reserves now .

Hmm, the frontier bone looks very similar to my cougar claw:

Here's how it looks after a few months of carry:

When the color began to change it seemed to flake off, like you described.
The texture of the brown area also seemed different than the rest of the bone, almost visibly porous. The way the color changed so quickly makes me suspect that this isn't dye, but maybe toasted or burnt?
I don't think its a coating because the top layer of bone seems to have a different texture than the rest.

I'd be interested to find out more about this particular bone.

Just canceled all my reserves except for a 43 in Cocobolo. I liked the pattern that much I’m going to give it one more try .

Glad I could help and I hope you enjoy it. You picked a good one. I wish that they had done the appaloosa moose that way. I got lucky with the one I got but it would have been nice to pick the one I wanted.

Yes this one has a really light more natural finish I’m really digging and not layered on . I would of preferred no coating but this is about as good as it gets .

Mine feels and looks dyed? Makes me wonder if it’s actually chipped bone on your not a coating being chipped? I don’t think gec paints them do they?
I’m not sure but the surface felt soft in some areas like it was not cured or dried long enough and layed on to thick. On the edges it looked like it was masked off and sprayed with something . I do know one thing that’s for sure I will never buy another GEC frontier Bone on any pattern without seeing it first .
Lesson learned ...

That lanyard hole maker at GEC must be developing some serious run out because those lanyard holes have about tripled in size since the first run.

I really hate to say it but I may not order from CK again until new shipping methods become available. This has really made my weekend suck.

I did request one with lots of tans, browns and blacks so we will see. If it comes in looking horrible I may take advantage of the return policy or just get new covers on it. I'm already talking with a guy here in town to recover and restore the first knife I ever got.

Yea I probably should of just returned mine and he does have first class customer service ! I just was so upset didn’t want to deal with anything but it going away fast. It really was a nice knife with the exception of what I disclosed in the almost half off sale so the op couldn’t go wrong and I feel much better .
