That faster than mine. Mine has been traveling about 0.04243827866667 feet per second. Or in other words 0.029mph which is exactly the speed of a brown garden snail.

My grandpa used to say “faster than the speed of smell”.

I’m thinking I’m going to get in on the beaver tail for this one — does anyone have experience with the jigged wood scales? Feel, weight, durability, etc

I am not sure why this thread has turned into a bit of an indictment of Mike and his business. If there are concerns with how he does things, wouldn't the GBU sub be a more appropriate place for such discussion?

In terms of shipping delays, that is on the USPS, not CK, so I am not sure why that would factor in your future business dealings with them. Also, if there is a problem with a knife, it is rather simple just to send it back and get a new one. CK isn't strictly a GEC dealer and I imagine that hundreds of knives pass through his hands quite regularly, it is entirely reasonable to expect that a dud or two might slip through.

That all said, I am looking forward to the Rust Red bone and Cocobolo when they get finished up and become available. I like the looks of the knives in general, though I have very little liking for the Frontier Bone. I anticipate the Rust Red Jigged Tidioute becoming a most excellent user, the Northfield Cocobolo will likely look pretty in pictures... :D

He who lives by The Sword shall die by the sword ....;)
Looks my new 43 from Knifecenter is in route
Kept my Cocobolo on reserve Elsewere and will take another gamble .

Not sure if you were referring to me but I have a hunch you were .For me it was much less painful and faster giving it away at almost half off .
Much more satisfying to say the least !! I felt better instantly lol . That was about the ugliest , cheapest finish / coating on covers I’ve ever layed my eyes on . Oh did I mention how disappointed I was after waiting months on the early reserve ? You are correct I should of not vented here but was at the wrong place at the wrong time guess you can say .

Well Im still waiting. I may just have to order from another dealer next time. I just don't need or want the stress of having to wait and wonder if and when the US post office will get here when they say they will.
What does this have to do with your chosen vendor? It is on the USPS, not the person/company purchased from.

Sorry for the off topic post.

I have been fighting myself to stay away from this pattern... It seems like it would be right in my wheelhouse, but I have my funds dedicated to another.

I use remain vigilant.

It wasn't just you, I was mostly referring to the general tone that has been present in the last few pages here.

I can certainly empathize with your chagrin when it comes to getting a knife that you are disappointed with, especially from a maker that you have come to expect consistently fine quality from. I guess my only issue was that less criticism was levied at the maker than what was directed towards the vendor, indirectly or otherwise.

I think we absolutely should criticize GEC when they fail and this is a particularly appropriate place to do so, we are discussing a GEC knife after all. Unfortunately, most of the frustration I was seeing was towards the vendor as opposed to the manufacturer. That may not have been the intent, but it was the tone that was struck nonetheless.

If I may pipe in without mentioning any particular dealer . But sometimes it’s from we’re its going and to the pipeline if you will has issues. There is two dealers that I can almost guarantee when I buy from will be delayed or misrouted . They can be closer then some dealers but take twice as long to receive. To no fault of the dealer obviously but USPS . But fortunately buying from a different dealer can eliminate the issue . That might of been what the op was referring to

Couldn’t agree more and well said
Yes I was very disappointed with Gec but I can’t condemn them on one pattern and cover but I sure would of liked to at the moment :)
I’ve bought probably 80 or 90 Gec over the years”just throwing a number out there” not really sure but a lot and have never been so disappointed with all the things I’ve mentioned . Really made me take a step back and say wow this is bad and kind of changed my opinion and respect for them I had so much of over the years .

Well I when there is no shipping option and the only way they ship is USPS it can be a big factor. I always have issues receiving packages when shipped by USPS. So I mostly try and deal with vendors that at least have UPS or FedEx as an option.

That being it finally got here and I am happy to have it.

There are some issues but I’m going to keep it as a user. There is some chipping in the bone at the top of the shield, when one of the pin holes was drilled it blew out a small chip and a gap between the bone and the liner.

Could this be the interior of the bone, where the marrow was, and not a chip?

I work with cow femurs a bit (for soups and stews, being a butcher), and would be able to have a better opinion having it in hand, but it isn't worth shipping back and forth over something as trivial as a yes or no.

Is the face of the crack, on the interior, rough or smooth?

Is it fairly uniform, or random rises and falls?

Looks good the bone looks more natural.
Sorry about the other issues though .

Could be worse...I preordered through DLT and they don't even have them yet..and they are already being bought and sold!! Ha

Yeah... seriously... what the hell? Lol... eh it don't bother me that much... they are always awesome to deal with.

On another note ( nothing to do with the quote ) as far as the frontier bone issues... I think they look great. The inconsistencies give it character, maybe it's just what draws me to traditionals in the first place. Just my .02 cents, but it's different for everybody. You are certainly entitled to have things the way you want when dropping hard earned cash.

I think the frontier bone looks fantastic, but after seeing what some of these look like, I don't think I'm going to take a chance on it. I'll wait for the beaver tails to come out. Thanks for posting the issues you guys are having.

Those are trickling in right now, however due to how many people pre-ordered multiple configs we are waiting until they all come in before we send out the complete your purchase emails. It helps eliminate extra shipping fees or trying to combine different orders into one shipment before shipping, etc.
