GEC new #43 pattern, who’s excited?

The process is not a painted process, just to nix that for future readers as well. Otherwise, they would have all been "painted" similarly. The intended look was the dark over light, or at least it always has been; my guess is something happened to cause the lighter models this run.

That was clear and I do like that you let me know that. It was the tracker after the order that got me frustrated. It said delivery by 8:00pm on the 24th. Then late on the 24th (around 11pm) it showed up as rerouted with a delivery date to be determined.

I do like the knife I received. It’s going to make a great user as I intended it to be. In fact I started carrying it today. It’s much more of a substantial knife than the SWA25 that it replaces.

Something is definitely astray with USPS these days. 9 times out of 10 I get my GEC packages on the third day and they come often. Couple weeks ago it went from PA to Los Angeles to OK. I guess some distribution centers could be worse than others - but I have never seen any correlation of awry packages and to/from locations.

I think the frontier bone all look cool.. supposed to have a weathered look in my mind. I ended up selling mine just cause I had a similar feeling Madison. Still have a beaver tail on the way from CK. Looking forward to it. I have bought many knives from CK now over the years, never had a problem and will continue to do so. USPS does seem to be slowing down. Outside of anyone's control.. but I agree it still really sucks when you are drooling over a new knife..we all know that feeling = )

dlt, remember that one guy that called and switched his whole order over to pioneer bone.....those are all the same...haha

I’m waiting to see both the rust red and the north field green to make my decision.

Really on the fence with this one, might be persuaded if the right stag comes along.

I much prefer the look of either the #23 & #42 over the #43 for the same reason I favor the #73 over the #74, the handle swell just gives the knife better lines and is more comfortable in my hand. Of course this is a mute point as it seems like forever since a #23 or #42 was available. Guess if I didn't have an alternative, I would be all over the new #74's.

I tried looking the other night for the history of the development of the 74 pattern, but thanks to the size of the massive threads regarding the 2012 forum knife, and broken photobucket images, I couldn't work it out. I know somewhere I read the explanation for how GEC ended up with two very, very similar patterns but I now can't find it. Grateful if someone in the know could assist.

Amazon recently started using the USPS for most orders because the USPS has managed to price the shipping of packages about $1.50 below cost. I'd guess that a huge increase in volume hasn't made the Post Office more efficient ...

Edited to say ... non-Prime orders.

I have to admit that I rarely have trouble with USPS. In fact, most often, even if delayed a day or two, it’s usually still faster than ups or fed ex when coming any decent distance. That said, our local fed ex office is a joke. I cringe every time i see fed ex as the shipper.

Fed Ex is simply awful. I collect books and one of my preferred publishers strictly uses Fed Ex for their shipping needs. At first, monitoring the tracking was an exercise in amusement, now I no longer even bother looking. It is difficult for me to fathom why a package should have to enter my state two or three times before it ends up at my door...

Thought I would drop this here. The Micarta looks good on this pattern, I suspect this will make a lot of folks pretty happy. I really want to see that jigged bone though, I am getting impatient. :D

20180228_144919.jpg I got my Frontier Bone in. The bone looks good, but it has gaps between liner and bolster on both sides large enough for printer paper to slide in.

Thats too bad. That seems like a big ol gap. After so many near perfect releases, it seems GEC is human after all o_O

Chris, told me they are dyed when I emailed and I am guessing that this bone may have been more dense than some earlier Pioneer runs and just did not take the dye as deeply. I have a really dark one on the way but am liking the look of some of the very light ones I have seen now.
