GEC Rendezvous 2022

A little late posting, but here is my haul from this past weekend. Kicking myself for passing on an 83 hummingbird acrylic when I had the chance, but I’m really happy with what I was able to grab. Always a great time getting to talk with the folks at GEC, as well as other forum members and distributors.

Nice! Is that a bird hook or a hoof pick?

It's ain't pretty Harry, I think it will age well in the pocket. You were missed at the Rendezvous.
Those are some great ones to put a long thong on and keep in the pocket and it will not take very long for that Stag to age . We would have liked to have been there but the distance from here to there is just getting a little too far for us anymore and it ended up that we had a funeral that we had to go to .

Really enjoyed reading this thread, it brought back many very fond memories. It's good to see Jack hasn't changed, still struggling to travel and yet still persevering 😊.
I missed seeing the people I've become friends with over the years that you don't otherwise get to see. It's amazing how strong bonds form from just a couple days a year.I had a great selection of farmers jacks to exhibit and some knives to sale.
Jack wasn't the only one who had problems with a vehicle though. Several of my new internet acquaintances and I looked forward to meeting, even hand delivering a couple purchases. Lord willing, I will plan steadfastly around the 2nd weekend in June next year.
Thanks all for the pictures and memories brought back and made. It's amazing how it's grown.

You and Jan were missed Lyle, hoping for next year.:thumbsup:

So by some grace of god I have returned home despite some car problems that developed during my return trip. This year was certainly an interesting rendezvous. It all starts here for me

apparently if i drove directly into town and put my chair down, id have been number 1!

But instead I was number 11 due to my attempt to sleep in. It was off to an inauspicious start as it was rainy and windy and I rushed back to the Creek to get my gear and more clothing after setting down my chair.

Was wondering how folks were gonna pass the night this time as it was colder and damper than last year. Luckily @Jack Wolf Knives brought out his ipad and had some movies downloaded.

We got to spend a lot of time with Bill on Thursday and were able to have many conversations with him, ironically he didnt want to be in the papers when I mentioned it casually that Randy was hamming it up!

And what we've all been waiting for, the loot!

This year the knives were strange. I didn't expect this but I did get to kid with Bill about the cocobolo. The rendezvous knife doesnt generally hit for me so I skipped it. But I did walk away with some sfas, the Good as Gold soup bone and and the Micarta 83. Ironically, I was able to actually score some pieces that finishes the older run offerings and some back ups. O yeah, shame about that 14 being ebony an S as it wouldve been a perfect replacement for the one i let go, however it was asking about that that got a few of us 77 barlows in the shop.

Unfortunately, this year's rendezvous was marred by several things. Several bladeforum members were unable to attend due to some health issues. Also there may be some who just dont plan on attending any longer. As each of these pass, some of the original slipjoint fans I've gotten to know also have moved on from the hobby, unfortunately due to health reasons (arthritis). A wise man once said you attend for the people, not the knives. They are just things after all but things that bring us together. It was certainly good to see the original faces that remain and meet some of the new ones. Until our next meeting...

Great post, Jack. Looks like a fun time! Nice haul, too! 😎

I’ve always liked this simple Northfield Etch on a satin blade.

I’m not a big fan of high polished blades, so I can always appreciate a Northfield with a satin blade. That’s a beautiful knife!

Wonderful posts by everyone!

Paul and I had a great time at the Rendezvous - meeting everyone was one of life's real pleasures - Sue and I have just shifted into our home we bought here in Napier, and I sat down and looked through the GEC Book I purchased and asked people to sign, what a treasure that Book is!!
A real tinge of sadness reading a message from our friend Ron ( and Pam), man... Ron was such a very nice man- I hope that Pam is doing ok and has family and friends around her.
The rendezvous was a great time to meet friends who I had made online in the Forums - but not able to shake their Hand - so this was indeed massive to me.

I love seeing the Knives people purchased - brings back memories of when I was in the store and I had the front spot by the Counter- Paul came up to me and said that Charlie wanted to see me outside- I went outside- there was no Charlie but Paul had stolen my place 😂 - the Knife I left on the Counter he also stole 🤣🤣

Seriously though- being in there was a buzz, Augie my friend- speaking of Stag, I remember buying probably the most sensational Stag 85 Clip-point - I didn't even get to open the Knife before saying I would take it.
I remember Sarah ( ~P~ ) saw it and went "Ewww" lol - me I absolutely love this insane Stag.....

You are right Jack . 2017 was my first rendezvous , so that made it special to me , but they did have some very nice stag , and there were a a lot of Forum members I think .
