GEC Rendezvous and Picnic!

John did you get a chance to pick your knife because I had just missed the cut but then found out what it was and passed. there was about 7-8 people ahead of me that day

Thats possible, couple people ahead of me did not get a Rendezvous knife so I think that helped. Donna got one also.

I was surprised the 92 was still sitting there, someone ahead of me grabbed a one off 15. Neat thing with this years 92 is it has the etch, last years 92 Tidioute did not have the etch.

Augie, that 36 double pull steals the show, that hemlock bone and hounds tooth shield are great. I really like my 36 double pull. I'm sure you'll love that as well.

yeah I tried to get the secret out of Charlie at dinner that first night but as a gentleman he promised and was sworn to secrecy. I was just trying to find out if it was worth getting out of bed for. It might feel like the rule about 1 to a customer bit them in the behind as Bill said there was still 8 left at closing time on saturday when he asked if I got one.

a 15?!!!! oh man I missed that

Wonderful post John - thank you for your kind words my friend - I too feel the exact same way of you and your lovely Wife Donna.
In time I too will have to spread out my posts - showing my buys and also most Generous gifts to me.
I hate this part of me - but tears well in my eyes even as I " type" this thinking of the generosity- your amazing Queen Drake Well Barlow being one of the stunning examples of the Generosity shared between friends - that we were - but just didn't get to meet in person until now.
I added up what my trip cost me- it was financially a bit terrifying- but you know what? ....... It was cheap as chips because to meet you and Donna and my other great friends was so special.

MANY stories of friendship are to follow of Knife deals - Knife gifts that become INSTANT treasures to me that never will leave my hands.

I for one am quite pleased with the rule. After just missing out Thursday morning, I was very surprised when @jprime84 told me there were some left on Saturday. I finally got my first Rendezvous knife!

right on, knives with a history/gifted knives are worth infinitely more than something one buys randomly on the internet!

I couldn't swing another trip this year after getting married AND going to Blade Show...but I've decided I am going next year! Thanks to everyone for sharing with us housebound schlubs. :)

Thank you Duncan, you and Paul really were a large part of what made this years Rendezvous so special, both of yours enthusiasm and contributions to our non stop knife talking were incredible. You really had to be there, 4 days of intense discussion and showing of new and vintage pocket knives,GEC finds, show finds, gifted knives, never got tired of it even though it wore me out.

Here are the knives I was gifted and also a beautiful copper Walking Liberty coin from Ron, thank you so much Ron.

First Charlie, Charlie what can I say except thank you! You do not no how much I enjoy picking your brain about vintage Barlows.
We were discussing and comparing a couple knives that he and I both have in our collections, I have an Ulster made Barlow with a Craftsman blade etch and he had a Blue Grass with a Belknap Hardware tang stamp, comparing the knives it was obvious they are both made by Ulster, after comparing and discussing Charlie surprised me by handing the Blue Grass to me as a gift, thank you Charlie!

The other is very special, awhile back I found an old unfinished Gardner Barlow, Gardner started in 1876 and only lasted about 10 years. At the Rendezvous Charlie had a couple finished Gardners with him and we enjoyed comparing the finished and unfinished knives. Saturday night we were winding up heading to the bar at Cross Creek when Charlie asked his wife Joanne for something, she hands him a knife and he hands it to me, I was so taken back to see one of the Gardners we had compared Thursday, this is such a generous gift of a very rare knife, Thank you so much Charlie, I'm going to put these 2 in a frame.

Now we come to Duncan, It was such a pleasure to meet you and be around you and share in your enthusiasm for vintage knives. Duncan picked up several great vintage knives and I can't wait until he is able to share them. Getting close to the end Duncan hands me a package as a gift and said he had found it at the Queen show and thought I would enjoy it. Boy was he right, it is a mint early 60's Kutmaster New Holland Barlow, what makes this knife so special is it has its original packaging from the New Holland dealer with a penny from early 60's. Duncan, I'm not so sure you realize what a great gift this is, thank you buddy!

And finally Paul, Paul I was so glad to meet and talk knives and just share this Rendezvous with you. Paul also bought several very high quality vintage knives that I can not wait until he gets the chance to post them. Donna and I real enjoyed your company. I really hope you get the chance to make future Rendezvous as I sure would love to spend more time discussing knives with you.
Paul gifted me a very neat custom made by an Australian maker using a Scagel blade, Paul,I'm going to need some help from you and Charlie on the maker details on this as the band in the bar was so loud my hearing had shut down and I was having difficulty comprehending. Thank you buddy, it's a beaut.

I have not had time to make any photos of all my Titusville souvenirs yet. But here is a souvenir that I will always hold near and dear. Pam took this photo of me between these two fine gentlemen while at the picnic. Paul to the left and Duncan to the right in the photo. I have so many experiences that I want to take time to write them all down to make sure I don't miss someone or something. WOW!!! This was an outstanding trip! :D

I was the first one there Friday morning.
Ahh so you and the other 2 guys were the one that hovered over Patty's case! Ha ha. I could not even get in there! I was 4th. I came with my mother.I will just have to get myself in on that case next year. Ha ha. That long bearded guy went in before me and I was there before him. Also the guy who kept talking about "Nam" got in line ahead of me.

Next year I will not be a Newbie. Ha ha . So I will be more aggressive to get in where I want! Ha ha .

The guy with the long beard and the guy who was first in line are brothers it seems, just so you know, doesn't excuse the jump in though. I was #12 in line.

I thought they were connected because he had a chair for him and I thought he was ahead of me because he had a chair there but he was not there yet. I said I was 5th and they said 4th because that dude arrived after me. Ha ha!! I got a Rendezvous knife as well as my mother, but when you get there that early as I did, Every space in line counts. I will be on that next year. And I will get my way in some of the cases!!
