GEC Rendezvous and Picnic!

I echo Duncan's sentiments Jack. It was great meeting you and teasing about everything being shiney, and of course a SINGLE blade:D enjoy that (Jack's preference) single blade buddy. It was a highlight of the trip having you ride with us to the picnic and back, both Duncan and I are trying to reverse the bad influence you imparted on us during the drive back to pick up your car:p

Thanks to Jack ( mrknife ) for listing many of the fantastic people that Nancy and I met for the first time at the Rendezvous . I also would like to include Will ( from Houston ) who bought at least 5 very nice knives out from under me and it would have been 6 except he very graciously let me buy an 85 in Stag , but he did get some , at least 4 , great 33's . I really did not know what to expect in going to my first Rendezvous , but I did expect a lot . I am very happy to say that my expectations were exceeded by a lot . I really appreciated that the ladies who were there really made my Nancy feel right at home . Thank you very much ladies Sarah , Donna , Jan , Joann , and Pam . I can not express my real feelings about what it was like to finally meet some of my Electronic Friends that I have been conversing with for the past few years . You folks are real Folks and happy to count you as my friends .
I also saw very quickly why I buy so many GEC's instead of Brand X . I went out to the Queen knife show , where they were selling Queen and many other brands as well , to buy a Schatt & Morgan Barlow in Stag with the S & M on the bolsters . I found some , but none that was good enough for me to buy . Price was not the object . It was all about Quality . So we went back to GEC and bought Nancy a 06 Pemberton , a 38 , and a 55 .
We also had an opportunity to see some Blow Your Mind collections that Charlie , Lyle , and John ( Augie ) have . There were some other fine knives seen that are too numerous too mention , but those stood out to me . Many of them were made out of Unobtainium .
I think that I could go on and on but I will sum it up . If you have never gone , you should go if you can . You will like it more than you think you will. I wish that more of our Porch Friends could have made it , you were missed .
Sabercat ( Ryan ) : Don't let Emmet leave his knife lay on a John Deere seat my friend .
Glad to see that you guys are getting back home safely .

Harry

The 2017 G.E.C. Rendezvous was as good as it gets, beautiful weather, great food,
and the very best of company with friends. Gwen and I had a wonderful Friday at the
factory and a very relaxing time at the picnic on Saturday. Thank You to Bill, William,
Christine, Patty and all of the dedicated and skilled G.E.C. Craftsmen and Craftswomen
for making this fun get together possible.
I was the lucky recipient of Charlie's generosity in His drawing for His S.F.O. Texas Whittler.
It is quite a large knife keeping in scale with Charlie's Heart.

Ah yes! N.E. Tim and his wife made it to the picnic too!

This was my third rendezvous, and they have become better and better, although it maybe hard to beat this years meeting. Had a great time with the group with both friends old and new. You all know who you are so I won't make a list.........Duncan(Campbellclanman). Paul)paulhiborn). Sarah(pertinux). John(Augie) together with Donna. Jack(mrknife). Lyle(wlfryjr) together with Jan. Harry(Old Engineer). Dave(knowtracks). Evan(esnyx). Ron(halfstop) together with Pam. Charlie(waynorth)together with Joanne.......l know, I made a list. If I did forget anyone please forgive me. I only made it for Thursday and Friday but with the company and the fun we were all having it seemed time did not matter, it certainly felt longer to me. Duncan of course wins the "Longest trip to the Rendezvous title". Have safe trip back home, that is a lot of miles to cover, I know when I fly to England after about four hours I want to get off. I think most of us went home happy with the time we spent and the hauls we made, bought, sold or traded. I could go on but then I won't know where to stop....lol. I enjoyed myself immensely with more rendezvous to look forward to down the road I'm sure.
All the best to everyone for now. See you around the forums!
Russell.

Man I love you guys

Hey .... isn't it amazing to see one knife go through around 31 pairs of hands during the AMAZING Quality procedure of the build process of just one knife.

:eek::eek::eek:

No worries Harry, he'll have to go to either Grandpa's house to have a John Deere at his disposal...for now.

Emmet and I got home from the picnic yesterday, and he delightfully shared his experiences and spoils with his mom. She was very proud of him, and showed great interest in his knives. I'm letting him show her all of my new knives from now on;).

I need to thank everyone there for being just as nice (or even nicer) in person as they are here. Emmet and I had many great conversations with folks that will be remembered forever. He and I have been learning together (through YouTube, BladeForums, Levine's Guide, etc...) but there's so much added value in conversation with those who have more and different experiences.

It was amazing to get to talk with Bill about many of the knives, and he was very kind to take time to point out several very interesting facts to Emmet and I. Everyone at GEC were simply amazing, as always.

Thank you Charlie waynorth waynorth for Emmets newest, and by far largest knife so far. He has been studying it over non stop since we got home. He's almost as proud of it as I am of him. Thank you @TheApostleP for providing Emmet with the necessary coin to complete the transaction! It made it that much more special.

Duncan - after Emmet showed his knives off to his Mom, he then bragged about meeting "Duncan from NZ"!

It was such a pleasure to meet all of you, and I am already looking forward to next year!

there was a very amusing moment during the picnic where the guy who bought his son and the son was taking out his knives to show us takes out a S&M knife box and the father said something like no put that away, dont take that one out :D I think Bill was right behind him or very near by. Speak of the devil there he is

Russell
Thank you my good friend- what a wonderful guy you are.

The Generosity....
This is only ONE of the stories I am going to tell about the amazing FABULOUS kind thinking of out Traditional Family - and I do mean the word Family.....
N. E. Tim
Now what a great thing seeing Tim win his Stunning Knife - but get this - Tim and Charlie were sitting there and Tim tried to present his Beautiful Knife that he only just had won - to me - because I had come all the way from NZ.
Now I had to almost tell you off Tim - to stop you - your generosity was amazing and thank you for wonderful kindness - I'm glad I managed to persuade you to keep that lovely Knife my friend.
Thank you so much Tim - you are truly what everyone said about you - a wonderful guy!

Yep, that was me Jack. I forgot I had that in there. I figured the GEC picnic was no place for a newer Queen product to be flashed about :)
