GEC Rendezvous and Picnic!

Bout time I contributed to this thread!
Had a rough start, thought I was goin to a REAL Rendezvous! The airlines didn't really mind the buckskins, beads, knife or Tomahawk, but they got their backs right up with the black powder!!:D:D
So I decided to add a little color to these rendezvous pics!

I'll start with the knives my Friends gifted me. I THANK YOU ALL!:thumbsup:

Super  little D-E, a gift from the Man that lives in Paradise, Duncan!

A Beautiful Case Tested from Mr. Waynorth! Wish the Appaloosa Bone would photograph better, this one is a Stunner!!:cool:

Last but certainly NOT least, this Schrade Cut Co. from my Good Friend from N. Dakota, Paul :D He said he saw the Mother of Toilet Seat and it reminded him of ME!!!o_Oo_O:confused:;)
Needless to say I was FLOORED by all these gifts!! Thank You ALL again!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Fantastic and colorful post Dave:cool: Now, just to be clear, the "mother of toilet seat" covers weren't the reason I thought of you, it's just because on that knife that they're so UNIQUE like you;):D

Yes I do remember Paul actually eating around 20 to 30 Hotdogs - me I only had one:rolleyes:
Dave - that Ka- Bar is a killer man - whew!!! I was mesmerised looking at that Knife. What a stunner. Just look at those Stunning Handles!!!!
What Dave is not telling everyone is the massive amount of gifting he was doing at the Rendezvous!
I am not too sure what you he name is if the Handles on that Schrades Dave - Morher if Toulet seat is clearer and the swirls are brighter- your example from Paul differs - that Schrades is in astonishing condition- that's a real nice Knife right there!
Augie matey- well done in letting go of that Stag Barlow for Dave. Beautiful Barlow goes side by side with Charlie's stunning Bone Barlow!!!!
Well done guys- Dave's a great guy!

Great additions to your collection Dave, I do like the Case Barlow myself. How could you miss the 24 hr McDonalds as you came over the bridge into Titusville? Not ideal for some but at 5.30am it was mighty fine dining.:D:D:thumbsup:

ironically, its a shame they sold out of breakfast when I rolled in before the queen show. Did get a delicious lunch at a diner in town

Thank You Lloyd, Paul, Rusty1 and Duncan, it SURE was Fun!! :) The beads are old trade beads from the fur trapping era and before, at Rendezvous everything you bring, wear, shoot, or throw has to be pre 1840 or the Dog Soldiers get upset! They try to keep it authentic.
Rusty, I would eat 28 hot dogs before I'd go to Smack & Don's!!

As I said the second day turned out to be a Barlow day!!:D
This was Titusville's Drake Oil Well Festival, their town celebration. Well there sure were a bunch of these Queen 1972 Drake Commemorative Barlows around, think I've already seen 2 or 3 in this thread. I was happy to get one! :D

The weekend of GEC's Rendezvous is also Queens open house/show. Being the Schatt junkie ;) that I am I had to go see the old factory! :D What a cool old building!! SO much history!
Queen also had a "show knife" I went thru every box on the counter and picked up this one, the action was weird, the main had what felt like almost a half stop. The end of the tang was not ground all the way around, like the tang was short. So when I got it home I took the dremel with a cut off wheel and carefully flatten off the top of the tang and made the half stop much more positive. Most all the knives I went thru had a solid Chestnut color, when I saw this one I knew....

This cotton sampler was in the GEC store, Duncan pointed it out for me. Thanks again my Friend!!:):) SWEET beads (Blue Lapis) in this photo! Thank You Charlie!!:thumbsup:

By the time Saturday rolls around I have already spend WAY to much $$. That morning I told myself OK that's enough, NOT going to buy any more knives!:rolleyes: Ya right! I can stop ANYTIME!!! o_Oo_O:D
A local man, I forget his name, I'm sorry:( was telling me the day before that he had a sweet little Sta-Sharp we would sell. He handed it to me, he was right it was SWEET! in fact Mint! But my brain said NO!...right up until he told me the price!:D Well, I'm sure I didn't even have this little Beauty 5 minutes and it was Charlie's knife!!:confused: Don't worry Charlie she's gonna find her way back home real soon!!
Augie took one look at it and said.."Well the file certainly is the major feature on this knife."

Wish the color of this old Stag would photograph better, cause it IS Very Sweet!!

Dave those two Ulsters are amazing - just fantastic Knives.

I have to say how amazing those Trade Beads are. To have something so historically fascinating is just unreal.
So these are Early American Indian Beads?

It sure was great hanging with you guys at both of those shows. It was great at times just to hover and look and listen to what was going down!
The memories of you - Paul and Tom and myself sitting down at that table when that special deal went down - Oh man!! Brings tears to my eyes thinking about it. ;)

Man it's neat seeing that wee DE again - always was a favourite of my smaller knives and it was a pleasure passing it on to you Dave - you have looked after me immensely.
The Sta- Sharp is a wee Stunner - just because of the size these can be easily overlooked but I think they are incredible Knives and often the skill involved in the making of them really makes you appreciate them so much more- especially when they bang Stag like that on the Knife

PS Duncan, most all the glass beads shown were made in Venice during the 1700's, they were used in Africa before being used here in the States. The Blue Lapis beads from Charlie are stone!

Wow- Dave my friend that's amazing- the Beads you have displayed are awesome. Charlie has some magnificent examples of Beads as well doesn't he!
I must look silly about the Native NZ woods - some are outright beautiful- Rimu gets even better when it's Heart Rimu / oh the colours - your board touches on the beauty - hard to get now - that's why I keep an eye out if someone is ever doing up an old house here. :)

Had no idea you scored so many beautiful knives in T'ville, Dave!!
(Of course I know about the Schatts!)
Nicely displayed!
I guess when you are another collector of historic beads, the pictures have extra pizzazz to your eye!

Charlie- Especially when you are educated on the age of such beautiful Beads- Just stunning!
I wonder...
Can one tell the difference of such quality and age of Beads when for instance comparing such Beads of yours Dave/Charlie from the 18th Century - to .... (say still very good quality Beads - from the Likes of Italy who seem to be the worlds leaders in Glass work ) a 20th Century Bead ?
I have popcorn, Foot Stool...still working on the Shoulder Massage...waiting for the Schatt's to come out from a certain person :D:thumbsup:

I love talking about beads, but I will get in trouble in this knife forum! I guess we could take it to Carl's lounge for a while!!??!!

Well....
Mr " I can stop anytime" has struck again....

i received my knives that I had to leave behind with Paul when I was leaving the Fargo Airport, that was in itself heartbreaking and stressful as I saw a twinkle in Pauls eye...and I am sure I heard a very quite wee insane bit of laughter... mmmmm

hah- - seriously- Paul is amazing- and so is Dave ( Knowtracks )...What an absolute Legend of a Guy...it would be hard and nearly a lie to say that I have someone nicer!
In my group of Bladeforum Friends who all know Dave- all know EXACTLY what I am talking about....here's just a wee example of Daves Kindness- but something that means Mountains to me....

I unpacked the two boxes that Post Master Hilborn sent mr- and there was this Erics Jacks Box in there...Im thinking" I didnt get one of these"...my last Eric Jack I passed onto Paul- who in turn planned to gift it to his amazing friend JC.... The erics Jack going to someone like JC?...it was a no brainer of course this was to happen...so ever since...I have grieved the Erics Jack void!

Well here was this Lovely Erics Jack from Dave- Dave and Paul's shenanigans at it's best here :)..along with the Knife a great wee note from my friend....
Dave mate... I wish I was closer, Thank you- we will meet in another couple of years as I have already started saving for the Oregon Show:D

Oh man....thank you Dave.....I guess I need to just be quiet and show this knife - payback awaiting for ya Buddy!
