Generosity and the Collateral Products of Searching for Old Knives!

I just remember the days of carving the roast...good memories! Duncan, the Eureka set is just tremendous!!! Your going to be carving like a King!! I really like the other pieces as well. I have a few myself and one day I will cook up a roast just...well just because.

Good on you my friend - I dont have Roasts too much these days - after being a wee bit crook - I have knocked down the consumption of Red Meat - but Oh how I miss my roasts!!! I used to eat the whole thing :eek: now and then I cook a roast - so maybe once or twice the Carvers will come out to play :D

You don't have to eat lots of red meat to use those carvers. You could bake a big old winter squash!

The whole thing...lol. I know...my mouth is watering just thinking about a nice juicy, medium rare , almost prime rib roast:eek: Moderation my friend!! May health flow to you out of the Stream of Life!!

I have benefited greatly from the collateral gatherings of other most generous Pickers in our midst. :D

I sense a theme.... :)

Great idea for a thread Charlie I always find assorted collectibles, memorabilia and cool little advertising pieces,(you could do a whole section on advertising pieces) I'll have to get some pics up for now I just wanted to subscribe so I don't miss anything.

I love that Schrade Walden, that's a pretty piece and I love those scenes.

On the carving set, is that cruciform pointed piece a steel or for holding the meat for slicing? I have one very similar and have been told it was both by different people.

Looking forward to seeing the treasures found while looking for knives.

Not a great haul of knives today, but I couldn't resist buying this cute unused Clem Universal Travelling Iron from the 40's/50's :) Came with a healthy asbestos and bakelite stand!

The smooth edge Victorinox/Victoria alox Baker's Knife is apparently quite rare.

Man I love this Thread..
I stayed up until around 2.3 am this morning going through my Carving sets, which to keep - which to move on, and decided to do it good and got out my Bee's Wax and feed all the Stag handles with a toothbrush - the results were just stunning.
I also 0000 wire-wooled any spots on anything that needed and used Mineral Oil on absolutely everything - in fact I had to check under the house just in case the stuff was dripping through the floor boards - I do tend to use that stuff quite a bit!

But I thought I would put up this ugly but interesting ol' L F & C Bread knife.....Rather common in the States guys?

The Christy knife company sold these as their staple knife, every house has a Chtristy or Christy like bread knife, the invention of sliced bread brought about the demise of that style. They're still around at yard sales and flea markets for a couple $ US.

Interesting bread knife Duncan, sounds like you've been busy my friend :) I have a couple of old Sheffield wooden-handled carbon steel bread knives, which I'll have to photograph. I use this early stainless breadknife daily (got the original ad somewhere, getting on for 100 years old). It was unused when I got it

My family has had a bread knife of that design, but not that manufacturer, for at least 70 years. I bought one when I moved out. In the US (east coast to midwest) they run $5 to $20 flea market vs. antique store.
