Gentleman's Folder

I'll second Murphy's Law on the Kershaw gentlemens folder. Well under a hundred dollars, micarta handles, VG 10 steel, lockback, comes with a nice leather slip pouch with clip. Only problems is that the blade is 3 1/8" which is over what you specified. Other than that it seems to be exactly what you're looking for. Try Knifeworks.

Got a pic? Does it differ from the currently available version? $79 @ knifeworks

Same knife. It's very well made, not too far removed from a custom. Lock up is solid. It comes with a clip on leather open top pouch.

(Note that I will link to a few video review that I made about my recommendations, it's my preferred kind of EDC knife style, and you'll probably like to see them in the hand if you're interested)

If you can afford them, definitely do investigate Klötzli. Swiss precision - made up to custom standards. Excellent designs by Walker and Wimpff. Plenty of titanium in the handles - they are modern in design, not tactical. These are elegant knives that can be used pretty hard. The CRK Mnandi is one of the few close alternatives in my opinion.

One of my faves is the Klotzli Walker 06:

Here is my video about it (and another one).
Another great Klotzli for you is the Sailor (and here is my video about it):

Another good recommendation is Moki (already mentioned). They are all good, I discuss 2 "knife of the year" models.

For a very reasonable price, it will take effort to find something more convincing than the Boker Plus Exskelibur 2 - which is a perfect production version of the mid-tech Burger EXK1. really very good, and nice:

Here is my video about it - which discusses the previously recommended Buck Nobleman as well - a nice one but I do prefer the Boker.

My final three recommendations: Fontenille-Pataud, Mcusta and the Lion Steel Opera. My related clips:
- Fontenille-Pataud "gentlemen" laguiole
- Fontenille-Pataud Le Thiers and Mcusta MC-75D Take
- Mcusta limited "frog" knife
- Lion Steel Opera (and 2 others)

I second the Burger EXK1. And they also have some other classy knives. You can get it with wood handles and engraving etc etc. Trevor will help you. It depends on your budget of course.

Getting awfully pricey guys with some of those little beauties.

Depending on your budget: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7910481#post7910481 post #13 is a very nice knife and won't break the bank.

I also think a 10700 Nagara, as mentioned earlier is a classy little Benchmade, and can be found on this forum for $55! (I spent $12 more from a dealer right before 2 members contacted me ) and they're getting hard to find.

CRK Mnandi, Klötzlis, Burgers, Fallkniven TK4 - my mouth is watering now and I'm sitting on a thin wallet! :)

Funny your video compared both knives.

I was just now looking for a good price to buy the Nobleman and while looking around I saw the Exskelibur 2 and decided that would have to be my next purchase instead.

When hearing your accent I thought it sounded Dutch but different, then I saw you are actually from Belgium which explains it. :D

I buy my knives at Ebay since European stores are expensive and US stores charge criminally amounts of shipping. Where do you buy your knives if I may ask and to be specific; Where did you buy your Exskelibur 2?

Not the best picture of my Kershaw 1993-2 'Gentleman's Folder'. Great knife - super sharp looking - and super sharp feeling blade edge. Cheesy plastic belt hook on the leather sheath.

I have started carrying slippies again when 'dressed up' - classic German ones from Boker - their Tree Brand Classics. Solingen carbon steel, different bone scales, patterns, etc - very 'sheeple friendly'. Another choice - a 'dress up' Buck 172 - if you can still find one - and then afford it. Classy knife - yeah, maybe an eighth of an inch too long. A little shorter blade - just under 3" - is the Buck 112 Ranger - the 112FG being properly finger-grooved, if a bit thick (It's a down-sized Buck 110!). The 'little' 503 Prince is just 'apprpriate' - the slightly larger 501 'Squire', with it's 2.75" blade, may just be perfect. Both have Rosewood Dymondwood scales and nickel silver bolsters.

I love my Benchmades, but finding a 'Gent's' knife ~3" or less is difficult - I certainly don't have a candidate. I think the mini-Skirmish is a handsome knife - but it's been gone for a while - and it's too big. I guess for quality, price, and nearly the correct size, that Kershaw Gentleman's Folder, #1993-2, is about right.

+3 on the Kershaw 1993-2. It has probably the best fit and finish of any factory folder I own. The quality is just outstanding.

Gentleman's folder you say? Pick the one which best suits this occasion:

It is early Spring, and you are at a social gathering on the veranda of a Victorian mansion situated on 700 acres just outside of Charleston, SC. A cool spring breeze is bringing the smell of ribs from the grill. An intoxicating aroma of charcoal and sizzling meat.

The estate's owner, a very attractive young widow who recently inherited a shipping fortune of almost $800M, is clearly captivated by your charm and good humor. She approaches, accompanied by her twin sister who has returned just this morning from boarding school in Switzerland. After a shy giggle and a bit of conversation, the young widow flings her long, brown hair away from her face and asks if you might slice a lime for her Gin and Tonic. As she does so, you sense the slightest whiff of her scent, which is quickly replaced by that of the grill. You find yourself suddenly hungry, though for what you know not.

You:

a) remove your Spyderco Camo Military with black blade from your pocket, and it snaps open with a satisfying clunk. The young widow retracts in fear and drop her Gin and Tonic. Her security personnel wrestle you to the ground and remove you from the estate; or,

b) you casually remove a small, finely crafted folder hand-made of exquisite and costly materials. You expertly slice the lime with its razor edge, and place a slice in the widow's drink. As you do so, your hand casually touches hers, precipitating her to blush. But the blush is accompanied by an unblinking stare into your own eyes, and you see her pupils dilate ever so slightly. After an embarrassed pause, she asks if you might accompany her and her sister on a private walking tour of the riding stables. You accept, and begin your stroll as the sun begins to set behind the adjacent hills.

If your answer is b), you were carrying the right gentleman's folder.

Have no use for that sort of B***S**T - I'll take a) Spyderco Camo Military and a whiskey drinking woman, on the back of my HD shovelhead any day. :)

I'd be interested in that SOG Vulcan if they could just put their logo on it 3 or 4 more times. :)

There are two drawbacks to this philosophy:

1
There are not a lot of whiskey drinking women.

2
Most women that do drink whiskey only look pretty when drinking whiskey yourself.
