Gentlemans Office EDC Deep Carry 3in or Smaller

If you're considering the petite Urban Trapper, maybe look at the Boker FR as well. Same blade length, similar-ish design, but a little more heft to it. I do love the way the FR carries in the pocket with that deep pocket clip.

I've found the Mnandi to be my favorite for office carry. The lack of flipper and subtle style makes it very non-threatening to others around the office. Small enough to be somewhat discreet, yet solid enough I don't feel like it'll break if I do a little more than open letters or packages. I also like the clip as it makes the knife come across as more of a pen than a knife when in my pocket.

I'm sorry you were unlucky and got a lemon. I have heard of other people getting Mcustas with blade play. Both mine came perfect. From what I see some models seem to be affected, like the Katana, others not. If you get one of the littler gentleman sized ones made of metal like the Yoroi or Tanbo I have those seem to bebput together amazingly. It seems to be the wood handle ones that comenas lemons sometimes.

Out of curiosity which model did you have?
I had the Gentlemens MC53D with rosewood scales and Damascus blade, but I got it second hand. I loved everything about it but the blade play back and forth, may have to give another one a shot though.

That's kind of what I was looking to hear about the mnandi. The only other knife I have that resembles a pen in my pocket is the small Sog flash one but I don't love the blade play and the assist open scares some people. I am thinking of getting one, love a good dress knife

I was eyeballing the Boker FR as well since you can get wood scales, but it would be hard pressed to beat out my BM Northfork with deepcarry clip for pocket space

My North Fork and 0450CF are in a constant battle for pocket time. Absolutely love both but for different reasons.

Ok I see which Mcusta you had. Damn that's one fine knife. I am lucky in some ways to have a local knife store that carried many brands. So I get a chance to handle them first.

You can drop the extra money and get an original Brad Zinker FR, made in USA?

Something by one of the S.African makers may tickle your fancy as well, like JD van Deventer or Andre Thornburn or Burger?

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned the 940-2 BM but damn is it a sexy knife. I wear it when I go to nice dinners or meetings with subs and whatnot. You can't even notice the damn thing in a pair of slacks

Don't love the clip, they need to add a 3 screw so that I can put a titanium clip on, other than that I do like the knife, but not love

Have you tried the wire clip before? The wire clip gets alot of negative comments but is In my opinion it is the best clip I've ever used.
-The rounded edges don't scratch furniture or other painted objects if you happen to rub against the,
-the clip is VERY strong. I've had titanium clips get caught and bend, the wire just flexes.
-It is much more sheeple friendly as it's almost invisible.

I have a Spyderco Squeak with the deep carry wire clip(one of the only ones other than the meerkat) I do like it, but the Sage and Chaparral don't have their positioned well, it still leaves a lot of knife out, that's why I wish they'd fix the Dragonfly. I agree that it won't scratch paint and etc but I end up back pocket carrying a lot.

I prefer the 3in blade of the Valet, but I don't own one yet. Have read a few online reviews about the Axis lock being tricky because it is shrunken down.

I have the Benchmade 531 and it has the smaller Axis lock and has not been a problem. It does take a little getting used to though.

Swapped out the arrow clip for a deep carry and it makes a huge difference. The deep carry clip is the only way to go with the 531.

At 2.1 oz., it's a great gents knife.

I had a Valet and while a nice knife, its small size coupled with the reduced size Axis lock did not work for me. The same(?) lock on the 531 seemed to work fine when I handled one, maybe due to the greater size of the scales?

So, I think the Valet is a little too fidgety. How about a 470-1 Emissary? Maybe try a 940, 943 or 531? But if you want 3" or under, they're out. I'd try a Spyderco Sage (pick your version), a Chaparral, a Lionsteel TRE, the Al Mar Nomad (not really a 'gentleman's knife', but it does have a 3" blade and is a pretty good slicer) (EDIT: Not a deep carry, sorry. Actually, really not a deep carry!), maybe a Boker Mini-Kwaiken, a Kizer Feist (if they clean it up a little on the next run-reviews seems to suggest it's a little rough out of the gate) or maybe Chris Reeves Inkosi (the small one) which I think is even smaller than the small Sebenza.

The CRK Mnandi is the epitome of the office carry/ gentleman's knife but is way over your budget.
