Gentlemans Office EDC Deep Carry 3in or Smaller

I have the Benchmade 531 and it has the smaller Axis lock and has not been a problem. It does take a little getting used to though.

Swapped out the arrow clip for a deep carry and it makes a huge difference. The deep carry clip is the only way to go with the 531.

At 2.1 oz., it's a great gents knife.
Does your clip ride low enough in the pocket so that only the clip shows and not the top half of that riser on the 531. Too bad no one is making after market custom scales for it like the BM Mini Grips

You can drop the extra money and get an original Brad Zinker FR, made in USA?

Something by one of the S.African makers may tickle your fancy as well, like JD van Deventer or Andre Thornburn or Burger?
For the money I might rather have a Mnandi vs the original zinker, not sure

The CRK Mnandi is the epitome of the office carry/ gentleman's knife but is way over your budget.
Not out of the budget but I would probably get rid of a couple knives to justify it. As luck would have it, I am traveling for work through Phoenix Monday and a local shop has both the Mnandi and Small Sebenza in stock, must be fate. I finally get to hold one in hand before I buy. Now I just need to sale my Spyderco Dice, SOG Visionary, and maybe my BUCK custom shop S30v 819 fixed blade signed by Chuck Buck number 42 of 1000.

Only 1/8th of an inch shows with the deep carry clip installed (I measured). I wear mine with black dress slacks quite often and no one has said anything about my knife. Come to think of it, nobody has commented about that knife, ever. Even when I wear khaki trousers.

Wear dark trousers and you won't have any issues. Drop it into your pocket and forget about it.

you didn't mention any size restraints, but I love my Spyderco Dragonfly ZDP-189 w/the Nishijin scales. It has the three screw clip so you should be able to add a deep carry clip to it, and it is a small blade which shouldn't cause alarm if someone should see you using it. Besides, the nishijin scales are at least as beautiful looking as CF.
I just picked up a Nishijin Dragonfly, do you know what hole setup it has? I don't have the knife in hand yet, looking on eBay they have specific hole patterns for the Native, Delica, Domino, and Para. I have a Dice at home that I will compare later when I get the knife.

Go with a custom made knife.

You know I have a pretty good idea of what the perfect EDC for me would be, the only problem would be finding someone to put it to practice for a reasonable price, ie under 300
What's your email? I'll shoot you one and maybe I can help you out. I know a few people.

If you're considering the petite Urban Trapper, maybe look at the Boker FR as well. Same blade length, similar-ish design, but a little more heft to it. I do love the way the FR carries in the pocket with that deep pocket clip.

I've found the Mnandi to be my favorite for office carry. The lack of flipper and subtle style makes it very non-threatening to others around the office. Small enough to be somewhat discreet, yet solid enough I don't feel like it'll break if I do a little more than open letters or packages. I also like the clip as it makes the knife come across as more of a pen than a knife when in my pocket.
Watched and read a few reviews on that FR, I am impressed compared to the Urban, I might just grab one since the price is low enough.

I'm still trying to figure out how people carry pocket clip folders in dress slacks. There's no way I could pull that off, let alone not ruin my slacks slipping the knife in and out all the time. I carry traditional slipjoints in the office and my Case Peanuts get the most use.

I was eyeing an Urban Trapper for months, but didn't go for it because I found it was too narrow on the handles and looked like it had not-so-great flipping action (that long, light blade didn't always deploy well enough to engage the lock properly from what I saw in videos). I still loved the design though. Then the FR was released. Apparently I wasn't the only one who wanted something a little "bigger" than the Urban Trapper in the same design. :p
I think you'll be fairly impressed with the FR. It pockets very well in any dress and is a reasonably capable knife. When closed, it's hard to imagine how big the blade is since it fills the scales quite a bit. A word of warning though. The blade edge is very close to the back edge of the scales when closed and you might cut your hand digging around in your pocket if you press your hand hard against the knife.

The knives with milled clips seem to be the worst with thin dress pants. The Mnandi clip was originally very tight when I got it. I had to hold below the pocket with my other hand to keep from giving myself a wedgie while taking the knife out. Oddly enough, my ZT 562 gives me the least trouble in dress pants, but is a bit too heavy and noticeable. :p
I find as long as the clip doesn't have too much tension and has a smooth ramp it carries fine.

I didn't read the whole thread, and I don't work in a office. But I used to own a 940-2, and thought it would be just a perfect knife for somebody that worked in an office. Light, thin, but a nice long blade. It has more cutting edge than most knives but carries like a pencil. A truly awesome knife.

You have to find a nice light knife with a good clip, I currently rotate my AG Russell K12, Leek with deep carry mod, BM Small Summit, ENZO Birk 75, SOG Visionary 1, Kershaw Scallion Damascus with deep carry mod, Buck Small Vantage Pro S30V, and sometimes with Khakis BM Northfork with deep carry BM clip. All these work pretty well, but I am still in search of the perfect one.

I played with one of those in carbon fiber yesterday, man it was light and beautiful, if only they made one with a little smaller blade. I handled the Valet as well and the Mnandi, I think I like the Valet more from Shinola with the wood scales.

Yeah I tried the Mnandi on my khakis yesterday and it was a bear to put in and take out, plus I really like one hand openers. After reading alot of online reviews I am torn between the Valet or Boker Plus FR. I know BM is better quality, how well built is your FR?

I do it with my BM 531 all the time. Never a problem with the knife/clip combo I now use, and no problems with my slacks, either. The knife is flat and super light, just 2.1 oz. I think that might be the trick, having a flat, super lightweight blade.

Like I said, I have never had any issues with the deep carry clip but I did find the 531 difficult to use with the stock arrowhead clip.
