Gerber LMF II Blade Material (420HC or 12C27)

I looked at the gerber prodigy at a sporting goods store today. The knife was in a plastic packaging. On the front it said 420HC stainless steel. The back description stated that the knife is made out of sandvik 12C27. On the bottom of the packaging, 2007 is printed.

That gets even more confusing.

yeah thats what i looked at, orange label stating 12C27 and a 2010 print, copyright date on the packaging, so im hopeful i have received new stock with sandvik blade!!!

I just picked up a Prodigy today from my local gun store. The description on the orange sticker on the box says .."The Gerber Prodigy features a rugged 3/16" Sandvik 12c27 blade.." So I looked for a date on the box and on the back it has a 2010 Copyright date. I'm happy I got a 12c27 and the thing is sharper than a Cold Steel out of the box, no kidding. Waaaay sharp. Sharper than a Mora sharp, which is plenty sharp for me. But the mystery continues.. this appears to be recent production but is very clearly marked 12c27.
