GiantMouse GM2

As a point of comparison, here's the Viper Italo (Fabrizio Silvestrelli design) in two versions, CF and all-titanium.

- Like the GM2/GMP2: M390 blade .160 thick, handle milling, rounded flipper tab (hard to see in these photos), rounded spine
- Different from the GM/GMP2: frame lock, wire clip, plain/black backspacer (instead of bronze/blue), no decorative pivot washer, half the price, and… I don't know what to make of this blade shape :)

IMO the GM2 is overpriced. I just saw a full CF linerlock Viper Italo for $175 today. Same material, same location where it's produced (maybe even same factory) for almost 1/2 the price. I think a lot of this is just hype and the fact that it's somewhat limited.

Fortis for the size and design but Italo for the nice CF & TI milling. So, GM2/GMP2 is a cross between the two.

The overall fit and finish of the Giant Mouse are a step up from regular Viper. Whether it's worth twice the price is a separate issue.

Exactly right.

Yes, made at the same small factory, Tecnocut in Maniago, which brands their own knives "Viper".

How so? I've handled a bunch of Vipers (Kyomi, Fortis, Italo) and also a GM1 and they seem at the same level to me. Viper is wonderful at the top end. Their knives have a unique and extremely precise feel. Unless you count the finish of the GM's design refinements (pivot washer, etc.) towards F&F, they seem to me identical in F&F.

There are regular inconsistencies in the standard Vipers, including the Fortis (weak detents, off center blades, voids in CF scales, etc). The level of precision, consistency, and execution in the GM line is a solid step above. Yes, they're made in the same factory, but significantly more time and work goes into the consistency and the finishing of the GM line.

Most factory knives have inconsistencies. My GM1 arrived off-center and gritty, and I ran into 2 other people on Reddit having GM1's with poor centering, and one of them also got a GM1 with uneven jimping. I'm pretty sure GM is just priced as a lifestyle or "limited edition art" brand. The designs are indeed beautiful.

While I've heard fantastic things about the GM1, the GM2 just isn't doing it for me. I'm not a fan of bowie blades, and I prefer my CF to be much less milled than they've done on the GM2.

Though, I'm sure it will serve as a fantastic knife for those that don't share my feelings.

The first GM caught my eye, but there just wasn't anything there that was vastly different from what's already in my collection. GM2 has a blade shape I don't own in a steel I don't yet have with full CF liners. Haven't owned anything from Vox or Jens yet either, so I figure now would be a great time to try out all these things.

As another poster said, it looks a lot like a Slyzs bowie, so I'm looking forward to comparing.

Anyone that owns the GM1, how does it carry in the pocket?

Hmmm.....not sure why you guys keep bringing up the Slyzs Bowie but you convinced me -- I'll just hang on to my Slyzs.

Great-looking with its lovely Ti scales and top-notch fit and finish, the Spyderco is thinner, lighter and cheaper.

Thanks -- much appreciated! ;)

Here in Europe the Slyzs Bowie is actually more expensive than the GM2 (> 400 €).

12 GMP2's and 188 GM2's left. I was one of last people to grab a GM1 from the site. I will likely wait on GM2 until closer to sell out but definitely plan to grab one. Still very surprised the Morbid mouse bottle opener tool sold out at $130 a pop!

I went home at lunch in hopes to catch the mailman since he's so irregular with his deliveries. I had to leave at 3:20 and he delivered it at 3:40, ugh.

Got my blades. The CF is super light. F&F are top notch.
GMF2 is the perfect size, worried it may be to small.
