Duncan, and Paul, thanks for the generous GAW, and for all your contributions to The Porch!!

I had no idea when I decided a couple of years ago to start carrying a pocket knife again after a 45 year hiatus that I'd end up in an international knife community that put me in contact with islanders from New Zealand and Outer Hebrides!
However this is NOT an entry, since I don't think I'd appreciate the fantastic knives you gentlemen have put "up for grabs" nearly as much as many other entrants would appreciate them. Besides, my photography "skills" are not "competition-ready", so actually entering would be a futile endeavor indeed.

But, not wanting to end up on Duncan's shame list, I'll post some photos to show that my photo skills are gradually improving IMHO. Several pics of the first knife I ever owned, a Colonial Forest-Master that I acquired around 1960, follow.
This is my first attempt at getting a pic of a knife I could post to BF. It was taken by the camera built into my MacBook. I taped the knife to my appointment book and held it up in front of the camera lens.
The second pic was actually taken by my wife, using her iPad to photo my scout knife on the kitchen table under a bare incandescent bulb.
The third and fourth photos were taken by me, using my wife's Canon point&shoot camera that she no longer uses. By this point, I had discovered the wonders of natural light, but worried that I didn't have enough coming through the kitchen window, since the camera kept advising me to "Raise the Flash". So the first shot below is with flash, the second without. Neither is wonderful, but the stout was tasty, nonetheless!
Lastly, a shot outside in the shade on a sunny day using the aforementioned Canon (it's my camera of choice now). Not a horrible photo, and it was taken before I realized I can sometimes improve my photos after the fact by using software to crop the pic and auto-enhance various features.
Thanks again for the entertaining GAW, and good luck to all the real entrants!!
