Glock 26 Vs. PM9

For concealed carry, the smaller the better.

If you will leave it in your car or truck, you might as well have a 1911 but for personal carry, go with the smallest available that may be chambered with a sufficient cartridge. By sufficient, I would dare to say 9mm, 40 cal, 357Sig, 357Mag, 45 cal.

Smith and Wesson has a really sweet 5 shot hammerless 38/357Mag in its 340PD. It is a good concealed carry/backup gun. It weighs a whopping 12 oz!

That's a nice gun, but I think I would rather have an autoloader. They're cheaper, flatter and only a few ounzes heavier.

I will be carrying a Kel Tex P3AT in a pocket holster to work after yesterdays events, and a Kahr CW9 outside of work. I'll eventually pick up a Glock 19 for winter carry or home/truck gun.

You may want to check your company`s policy for this first so they won`t have a reason to fire you. I can`t imagine there are too many places where something isn`t worded into a company`s handbook.

I disagree completely. Go with the largest gun you can carry comfortably. Why would i carry a something like a PM9 when i can easily conceal a G19?

I agree with Victory. When I wear a jacket I will carry the G19, if I wear a tshirt or something I will carry the Kahr. At work my only decent options are an ankle holster or pocket carry, in which case the Kel Tec would fit the bill.

After being robbed yesterday I have decided that I will be carrying to work, even though it is against company policy. My job is not worth my life.

thats simple the PM9 is tons easier to carry daily, i have tried both.

i have carried for about 15 yrs now and while its possible to conceal all sorts of stuff (i've packed a SIG P220 .45, a colt 1911 commander .45, a star PD .45, a berretta 92, a glock 26/32C/33 and the kahr P9 & PM9) if ya do it daily the larger/heavier stuff can become a PITA, i've carried so long that any "glamour" associated with packing this/that is long gone i just want the smallest lightest reliable gun in a major calibre thats accurate enough for what i need it for, the kahrs have filled that need better than any others i've tried.

I agree with SIFU1A. I too have carried for a long time. Kahr's suit my needs the best.

That is great to hear from both of you. I've been renting different Kahr's at the range and I really like them, I'll be getting one myself.

Although, I have become more and more interested in small frame revolvers, I will probably buy one eventually and if I like it enough might carry it instead of the Kahr every now and then.

For summer carry, I have a S&W 342 PD, carried IWB in a Blade-Tech holster, or in an Aker pocket holster. Great gun. In fact, if I am taking a long drive, I usually carry the revolver, because it is better in closed spaces. PS: They do not make the 342 PD anymore. I think it was replaced with the 442, but I am not completely sure about that.

I didn't ask why you would carry a kahr, obviously because it's a fine gun that suits your needs. However, the best tactical advice is to carry the largest gun you can comfortably carry, not the smallest gun period. If that is a kahr, then so be it.

rather than comfortably carry i would say comfortably live with but i do get your point.

whether or not you can live with it depends more on mindset, tactics and training as well as the situation of its use.

i have the p40 and also had to grind the slidestop down with a dremel. it bit badly with my grip. kinda jumpy in 40, i have shot the 9mm's and they seem to handle better.

good luck!

Yeah I've shot the P40 at the range and it is a bit jumpy, that's for sure.

I think I've decided on the PM9. The CW9 would save me a hundred bucks, but it is a bit larger and there are times when I won't be able to conceal even that extra half inch. I can always use the extended mag in the PM to make the grip/capacity larger, so I'm going with that.

again in my early yrs i wanted a 1911 or a .45ACP anyway, that was the bomb, the glamourous choice imho, but as the years went by and bullet technology improved it got to where ease of carry came into play also, if i was expecting trouble i would probably go with my SIG 220 .45 (or my colt M4) but for edc use nothing wrong w/a smaller pistol as long as it is major calibre, accurate and reliable and ya can shoot the thing.

as far as mindset, tactics and training these are much more important than the tool ya use to accomplish the mission and are adaptable to all weapons imho. ie with the proper mindset/training calibre and size matter little.

no less an authority than jeff cooper used to say the star PD was the perfect size edc pistol vs his std 1911 he just didnt think it was reliable enough, this was 25 yrs ago of course. now the compacts and sub compacts are as reliable as the std size pistols, generally.

also with the improvements in bullet technology the diff between a .45ACP, .40S&W, .357SIG, 9MM is small, some would say no diff, ya do have to use good bullets though in 9MM this is critical (not so critical in 45ACP) i have heard the w-w ranger bonded and non bonded 127+P+ and 147gr are the top choice closely followed by speer gold dot and remington golden sabre.

so as long as ya practice some and can shoot the thing and load up with good ammo imho its hard to beat a poly frame kahr for edc,

unless your situation calls for more firepower, carrying that size gun is just fine, but the smallest gun is certainly not best for everyone.

I've disagreed with jeff cooper in the past, most notably on the 1911. Personally i think it had ran its course by 1935.

That's exactly where I was coming from. Been there...
