Going to try to carry one knife as my main EDC... For one year

Carried my Benchmade 710 for 8 years straight. Deviated, maybe for one day...in 2003... :D

Just replaced it with a BM930. But I kind of miss the old gal ;)

I got pretty close to that one-year mark with my Opinel #8, but I got "the itch." Looking back, I kind of want to check out a slim. Then again, the #8, while a good size, seems a little large after carrying around a barlow for a while. Perhaps I'll pick up a #6 and try for the 1 year.

I carried my gerber AR with me for over 2 years.....its got pretty beat up but its still decent...I have never been the type to rotate EDC's I usually pick one and stick with it till its broken...

Same here, I've carried the same Xikar for two years, sharpened so many times the tanto blade looks like a drop point now. The friend who gave it to me recently gave me another!

That's the kind of stuff money can't buy ;) The feeling that, that knife went through that much with you.

That's what I want! New knives are a bunch of fun, but nothing like a oldie with TONS of pocket time.

Does anybody want to join me?

I've done it for the last three and a half years.

Benchmade 710 and Vic Soldier, every day when I leave the house since January 2006 (and the Soldier for about three years before that).

I'm obviously happy with my set up to have kept it this long.

Come back in three years and I'll be impressed :p

It is kind of a nice feeling. I've been debating for the past year about replacing my 710 with a Paramilitary, but everytime I'm just about to hit the order button I look at the 710 and realize I'm not gonna put it down.

One of the Omega springs broke about six months ago, I made a replacement for it and it went right back into my pocket. About two months ago one of the pocket clip screws stripped and Benchmade sent me a new clip and screws. I put the new clip on and it looked so damn silly with the new black clip that I put the old beat up one back on.

The edges of the G-10 are worn smooth, there's scratches in the blade and a few dings on the liners. But that knife locks up as tight and solid, and opens as silky smooth as the day I got it.

Why change? :D

So-lo, I'd like to try to EDC one of your SNG's (anything though really) for a year. Please? If some of your knives are going to sit there, and if you're feeling generous, I'd love to use (not abuse) one of your knives. :)

Why is that offer only good for 555 :grumpy:

I'd like to try it, but I'd have much trouble deciding with one of mine. All I have are ZT's and Kershaw's. Not the awesome toys that you guys have.

Good luck, and keep us posted. My EDC was a Buck Mayo Hilo, and I'd switch back and forth with a Case large Stockman. Now that I've got a large Boker Sodbuster (from Blues) I'm making that my EDC until the end of the summer. I don't think I'd make it a year on one type or model.

thx - cpr

Well:

Like my Millitary/SE but too big for public use:eek:

Like my SS Dragonfly/SE but too much vertical play:grumpy:

Like my D2 Paramilitary/SE but it's one of a kind(can't thank you enough Sal:thumbup:)

Soooooo, I've cleaned up, tightened and locktited my black FRN Delica4/SE(now rock solid with only the slightest hint of vert. play) and have been carrying it for almost 2 weeks straight now.

We'll see how it holds up:)

I carried my 722 for about 4 years straight, I feel the same way, after so long it's kinda like you have a finger missing.

It’s gotta be tough so many fine knifes and all :) I carried a Ulster Boy Scout Pocket Knife until I thought I lost it somewhere around the late 60s*. It was replaced with a SAK Spartan, the closest thing to the Ulster that I could find. I carried that until I lost it around 1975 then replaced it with a SAK Climber, this one didn't have the hook. Around 1990 or so I replaced the red scales with white bone, I carried this knife up until 2004 when I became so fond of it just from familiarity that miss placing it caused too much anguish. I felt this was just stupid silly so I retired it.

I couldn’t find an exact replacement so I purchased the SAK Super Tinker, the only difference being the gut hook and a Phillips instead of the corkscrew, I liked the corkscrew, even though I stopped drinking over 14 years ago I still get asked at parties for my corkscrew. I’m still carrying this one but…. I decided to replace the scales with antler carved bone and thought maybe if I was going to do this work I should put the new scales on the one I prefer so I ordered a new SAK Climber and I’m in the process of modifying this knife. It will replace the Super Tinker which will either go into my gig bag or to my nephew.

So there you have it 4 knives since 1959 or 1960, soon to be 5, so you see we all have varying degrees of commitment issues :)

* When my Dad passed away in 1982 I was given his old jewelry box, I figured the old man found my knife in a place it wasn’t supposed to be and snatched it to teach me a lesson then forgot about it.

.
Rules are simple...

I will try to carry this knife as my "main EDC" for one year. I can buy more knives, I can carry other knives with it (like a slippie in the watch pocket, or small fixed on belt/IWB,) and I can carry my knock around knife when in my PJs lounging around the house (ZDP delica/ZDP Caly3/Small Sebbie.) But, if I mow the yard... if I go to work (:D)... if I have a "honey do" ... I will have this Large Micarta in my pocket!

Does anybody want to join me?

Count me in!

I'll carry my Spyderco Impala for one year.

I'll join you in carrying one knife for the next year.:D

The only condition is, we both will EDC a standard 420HC Buck 110 for a year.

Thats right, I'm Throwing the gauntlet down. :D

I think you need something to really test your Metal. So what do you say. :) :D

At the end, that knife will mean even more to you than it did new. I carried a little Browning 303 stag lock back for 6 + years back in the 90's using it day in and day out. Lost it three(3) time only to have it returned to me by it's finders each time. Both my kids want it, but it now resides in the "forever box". Have fun!:D

I've tried to do this a month at a time and was successful for about 3 months. But a man has to know his limitations, and a single knife for an entire year is just not within my limitations!:)

Btw knivesandguns, I think So-Lo was just being facetious when he made the post to 555. May be wrong, but ..................

Honest to GOD, you tell me what knives you want to borrow and they will be on their way :)

I can PM you a list

(offer only good for 555 ;))

Send them to me first. 555 prefers his knives packaged in Quickrete, and I can hook him up.

I'm actually considering this...hmm...

I got my XM18 right about the same time I got an SnG tanto. Never meant to use the tanto I already had an SnG drop point, I took it in a partial trade.

It wasn't long before the SnG starting hogging all the pocket time...

Maybe I'll start small...one month...

:D

It would be easier if I didn't have 3 new folders on order...who knows...I might like one of them more...

I'm weak...:o

:D

I'd do this with my XM-18 but I usually switch to my smaller blade in certain areas because of blade length limits. I also would switch to my Tasman Salt when I'm swimming or in areas where I think I'd have a chance of losing my knife. I could rotate between 2-3 for a year.

It never hurts to ask! :D

I tried.... but as we internet people call it... I FAILED :p

I carried a Kershaw blur with me for ~1 year, and it was the only knife that I had. I usually carry a blur still, regardless of my "primary" knife which usually comes in the form of a ZT.
