Going to try to carry one knife as my main EDC... For one year

I went about 3 months last year (all summer basically) with my Spyderco Endura4 P/S in my pocket. I KNOW I could carry that for a year straight, but I have other Spydercos that want pocket time too!

I usually EDC a new knife for a few days then revert back to my good-old SOG Twitch II. Opens and closes like a jeweled machine and stays sharp on AUS-8.
Been carrying it for a few years now...it just keeps wandering into my pocket. :)

Before I got into the nicer stuff, I carried a PE Gerber ATS-34 EZ-Out for ~10 years virtually every day. I thought it was the bomb, and at the time Gerber might have been a bit better than it seems to be today. Anyhoo, that knife did a bunch of stuff and never died. I retired it when the lock got too sloppy

you know what, I just got my Large Regualr Dog Paws, and I think, if I do it like you, where i can have others with it but that is my GO TO knife, then I could do it. Let me know when you start and we can start at the same time.

I'll join you in carrying one knife for the next year.:D

The only condition is, we both will EDC a standard 420HC Buck 110 for a year.

Thats right, I'm Throwing the gauntlet down. :D

I think you need something to really test your Metal. So what do you say. :) :D
It's no secret here on the forums that I LOVE the BUCK 110.
After all, I own five of them....and that's after having sold four more.

But summer is coming fast and I spend alot of time in running shorts, swim trunks, and light pants....often without a belt.
So, I don't think that I would be able to stick with the deal and carry a Buck 110 everyday.

I have been stuck in a rut of just two knives, other than one made by a friend that is always on me, for about 8 or nine months now. I am afraid that is as far as I am going to go. :D

Enjoy "the journey". You have picked a great knife that should serve a lifetime or two. So I don't think a year will be a problem.

(Sitting here wondering if I should talk you into carrying a stockman or not. ;))

I think I could do it, as I've carried my Sm Seb for the past 3 years, with the exception of probably a dozen or so days. My biggest issue is while I'm at work(Fire Service), I might "carry" my Seb, but some other beater usually does the work. If that's OK, count me in...

Man, I guess I am extremely loyal.
I did EDC my Lochsa since the day I got it - 03/2003. BM 710 has been my EDC even longer, since 1999. Sure I carry something else occasionally, but that's either because I am in the area with 3" limit or like now, 71- blades went for rehardening and now they're headed to Tom Krein for refinishing/regrinding.
Currently 710 is replaced with Kershaw Shallot ZDP-189.

Well So-Lo, it appears you have found a good therapist or the meds are kicking in big time. As for my OCD, I'm pretty sure I could go...a week, before the sweat got really annoying. Good luck!

I carried my Benchmade AFCK 806D2 continuously from mid-2002 until just after Christmas of this year, when a Wilkins Grip replaced it for about two months. The Grip was then superseded by my first and only custom folder from Chuck Gedraitis.

I bought a lot of knives during that long period but none of them displaced my AFCK for more than a few hours. It can be done.

One day down ... 364 to go :D

Gus- I said I could carry "other" knives with it. :D So a stockman can ride in my pocket, but it's more likely to be a trapper.

555- you going to make a go at it with that 110 :D

Allen- that's a fine choice .. And remember it's OK to slide one of your custom shop 110s in your pocket, just clip the spydie also. (Tbis work great because you don't have to choose between them)

Heavy- If I do break, it will me due to my DGG DC SNG ;) :grumpy: ( Maybe I should ship it to guyon to ship to 555

:D

KnivesandGuns- the offer is only for 555 because we go way back like a swayback ;) He is a paying member here, helping keep this forum ad free. Not saying your not a great guy, just saying 555 is like a brother.

You are in :D

Pinky swear....

Start now :D

Another fine choice!

Now where is Suz with her Dog Paws :p. :D

BUUHA HA HA!!!
It can be done. :D

Going to give it a shot, but if it ever turns from fun to a chore I will pull the plug.

I really like a challenge, and this WILL be one in a fun kind of way.

We need a few more brave souls to join us, even a peanut in your watch pocket everyday would be fun. How about a Vic Classic or Vic Rambler off the key chain and in your watch pocket.

:D

I could probably get by OK with a Vic. Farmer . It does 99.99% of what I need from an EDC .

I'm in... when my small micarta classic comes back from the spa. I've been wanting to try her instead of the small regular for a while anyway. I'll carry her for a year for EDC (swap with a small Ironwood 21 for dress) and anything else will be "in addition to..."

:D Another fine choice.

I had to do the "in addition to," because there are GECs and Queens and who knows what else waiting for us to carry also :D

Yes, thats right..... I am going to try to carry one knife as my main EDC for one year!

I have always wanted to give it a shot, and I feel ready to do it. One look in the gallery in my photo thread will show you how many knives I have been through in about three years time. "The want" for a new knife is almost totaly gone. Now its time to enjoy what I have.

Rules are simple...

I will try to carry this knife as my "main EDC" for one year. I can buy more knives, I can carry other knives with it (like a slippie in the watch pocket, or small fixed on belt/IWB,) and I can carry my knock around knife when in my PJs lounging around the house (ZDP delica/ZDP Caly3/Small Sebbie.) But, if I mow the yard... if I go to work (:D)... if I have a "honey do" ... I will have this Large Micarta in my pocket!

Does anybody want to join me?

:D:cool:

Also I will post pictures here every now and then, and tell you how its going.

Why, with all those knives?

I would say if you haven't carried one knife for at least a year, you might be a bit new at knives.

The last I carried in continous EDC was a Strider SnG for about 23 months straight. Before that, a BM CQC7 - 18 months, an AG Russel One Hand - 2 years, and a Gerber LST - 2 1/2 years. Right now, I'm trying a BM Vex. A small CRKT carbon fiber M16 subs in for EDC over the last 5 years, as does a Buck Mayo for the last two.

I've also carried a 3different multitools during a 8 year aggregate at one job, and a LM Squirt any time I work an auto parts store - 16 months on that one.

Gee, a whole year? Kinda short for those of us who wondered what those funky clipped knives with holes in the blade were. Spyderwho? Don't they make the multiclamp soldering fixture?
