Good blade for heavy abuse?

It's amazing how many people here don't know how to read, or are just too damn lazy to read past the first post. Either way the level of retardation is staggering.

I actually thought it was a fair question. I can think of plenty of times when I've been somewhere where a bit of prying, scraping, screw loosening was required and all I had was my EDC. I'd prefer to have my leatherman with me or close by but this hasn't always happened. I've used my Queen D2 Canoe to pop the lock to my shed, open a bottle of wine (jam the small blade in there and twist) and undo a flat head screw (that's why I suggested earlier that a D2 Grip might be a good choice - based on experience) all without loosening the action or breaking a tip. I've also used my Spyderco Military, in a situation where I had accepted I was going to snap off the tip, to pry and then hack my way out of a locked toilet, without any undue damage.

I accept that a knife is for cutting but hey - an EDC screwdriver/prybar just isn't sexy :D

Using a knife as a screwdriver is abuse. Unless you really enjoy snapping the tips off knives, I would suggest that you purchase a SAK or a multitool that has a real screwdriver.

He should go to Sears and get some good tools, including a prybar and straight/philips head screwdrivers. Then he should go to the closest knife store and get some good knives and multi tools and SAKs. Then he should mail them all to me :D!

Speaking of "sexy", visual attraction doesn't have to mean non-functional, you can go for both such as Clements leather work :

or any of the high end pieces Cashen makes :

So then by Migo's "sexy" standards of useage:

-a sexy barf bag

-a sexy Screwdriver

edit: that is the nicest Pool Cue Bag I have ever seen :D

I am pretty sure Kevin could put a screwdriver tip on a utility blade if you asked for it, the blade would probably look pretty good too.

Migo, you may want to consider this as an edc. It works pretty well as a screwdriver and it can actually cut up a good sized buck with the right attachment.

Of course you'd be limited to how far you could travel by the length of the electrical cord, however, with a lengthy extension cord you could probably travel up the street with it. :D

Kevin? I'm not yet up on these knife makers by first name only yet.

I have used an old Cold Steel medium Voyager with a tanto tip for those non-cutting jobs that we sometimes use knives for. Included in the list is prying open paint cans, turning flat-headed screws, scraping drywall, and lots of other things I've since forgotten. The knife isn't really any worse-for-wear; the tanto tip is pretty durn stout.

These days, though, I don't carry that knife. I've since upgraded to a Griptillian for edc. Interestingly, I've stopped using my edc for anything but cutting   An Atwood Prybaby is next on my edc to-get list, as well as a Leatherman Squirt (I think), the tiny one with the small pliers.

I'm not going to dignify this thread with any other comment other than to state that this has got to be the stooopidest thing I've read in quite a while. 'Nuff said.

Knifes are for knifing, screwdrivers are for screwing, get one of each and be cool, When you show your friends the blade with the broken tip, they will know what you did!

Can't carry a screwdriver with me everywhere, I don't always have enough pockets for more than a knife.

Many old multi-blade knives had screwdriver tipped blades, some of them even came that way from the manufacturers. I have an old one with duel liner locks.
