Goodbye, my friend.......

Your Friend For Life

My life is likely to last 10 or 15 years. Any separation from you will be very painful.

Give me time to understand what you want from me. Do not break my spirit with your temper,
though I will always forgive you. Your patience will teach me more effectively.

Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for your kindness than mine.
Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. I have only you.

Speak to me often. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice when it's speaking to me.
Your voice is the sweetest sound I ever hear, as you must know by my enthusiasm whenever I hear your footsteps.

Take me in when it's cold and wet. I'm a domestic animal and am no longer accustomed to the bitter elements.
I ask for little more than your gentle hands petting me. Keep my bowl filled with water. Feed me good food
so that may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding. By your side, I stand ready, willing and able to share my life with you,
for that is what I live for. I'll never forget how well you treated me.

Don't hit me. Remember, I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hand, but I choose not to bite you.

Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something may be bothering me.
Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I've been out in the sun too long, or my heart may be getting weak.

Take care of me when I get old. For you will grow old too.

When I am old, or when I am no longer enjoying good health, please don't make heroic efforts to keep me going.
I am not having fun. Just see to it that my trusted life is taken gently. And be with me on that difficult journey
when its time to say goodbye. Never say "I just cant bear to watch" Everything is easier for me when you are there.
I will leave this earth knowing with my last breath that fate was always safest in your hands...... I love you.

Oh my. It's like you have spoken his words. I'm sorry buddy, I hope I did right by you. By my hand you be taken, by my hand, you be safest and best taken care of............. I really wish you were here Murf. Can't believe you are gone

My heart goes out to you. It takes a special person to save an abused animal. Turns out, they save you.........

I got my dog from the rescue last fall when he was about a year old. I can't even imagine my life without him at this point and I've only had him just over a year now. I've got much respect for you taking the pain away for Murf, Joe.

Joe, my wife is a veterinarian, and we have had to put down two of our incredibly loved dogs over the years, Molly and Jack. When she does put them to sleep, I hold them. I swear, it is the hardest thing to do. The only thing that gets me through it is knowing we are doing the right thing for them - which you have done for your dog. He had a great life because of you...

sorry again for your loss.

Very sorry for your loss. Had to put my dalmatian out @ 13.. Fully mentally functional 100LB dog, but hind legs gave out and it was time for him to go...

I feel your pain, man...and am truly sorry for your loss. :(
RIP, Murf.

gunfixrjoe.....smoke and prayers for for your buddy Murf. So sorry...

Sorry for your loss, I still cant forget my Bull Terrier that we had to put down in -08, at the time he was 13,5 yrs old and suffered form arthritis.
I sadens me to think how well him and my 2 yr old son would have gotten along. At least he is not in pain any longer and he is buried at his favorite place in the world, on the exact place that he would sit and sniff the ocean for hours.

Had to fly in and put down and bury my 2 Dalmations of 17 years the weekend before Christmas 2010. They were my first dogs as a boy, and are the only reason I am still on this Earth. I know your pain all too well. It will get better.

RIP Murf.

I'm truly sorry for your loss. There is something special about dogs. I know of no other animal that will love so freely and they don't ask for much in return. I just wish dogs had the same life expectancy as humans. Maybe even longer than some;).

He's been the best of me. Always will. 15 is a long time for a Brittany. Unwavering friendship........ He was a rescue. Got him when he was 4. He was bought as a fresh pup for an 80+ yr old couple. They had him indoors for 2 yrs, then got tired of tripping over him and took him outside. There he stayed, never off the chain for the next two years. Then we found each other. He's been at my side since 2001-2002. Poor thing didn't even know how to play. Never seen anyone so happy to see me........

Sounds like you were meant to find him.

You gave Murf a happy home and a loving family.

RIP Murf. Hang in there ginfixr.

best

Made this ol' hard ass misty eyed!

So sorry to hear about your loss Joe.

I lost both of my dogs last year and even though I've gotten a new pup I still think about them and miss them all the time. It's a void that is never really filled. I'm glad you got to spend many good years with him.

Take care and remember that you'll see him again some day

Sorry you had to let him go Joe. It's a tough thing to do. But as painful as it is right now, it only hurts because you cared so much for him. And think of the joy you got from caring, and loving that deeply.
