Got a light?

GoingGear is always at Blade with a booth. He does a heck of a job on youtube with comparisons.

Try the Fenix PD20 or Quark 123...both are reasonably priced, have several cool features, and fit into you pocket well. I personally prefer lights with tail caps...clicky over twisty. BTW your search for a flashlight has got me thinking...ask Jerry if he'd be willing to offer a Light for INFI trade sometime...just like he does Iron for INFI:D:eek:

Garth, here is my stash.

For headlights I highly recommend the Princeton Tec Apex series (Apex, Pro, Extreme), the grey and orange lights on the left of my picture. They have spot and flood combinations, various brightness modes with 200 lumen max output, strobe & beacon modes like you want, different batteries CR123 (Pro, the grey one) or AA (Apex / Extreme, the orange one), have a very small flashing led to find it in the dark, a battery level indicator (very important). They are very comfortable and very reliable. I use headlights more than flashlights to leave both hands free.

For flashlights I am blown away by my 4Sevens lights. They have very clean beams, are very efficient, small and are programmable with different mode & brightness preferences including the flashing modes (strobe, beacon) that you like. The best feature for me is the moonlight mode with only 0.2 lumen output (10 day runtime in that mode). It is great to use when you want very little light. There is nothing worse than having only a blinding, glaring bright light in a small space or on a close object. But with these I can switch from 0.2 to 190 lumen in an instant.

They are also super tough. I sometimes demonstrate by turning the light on, throwing it down from a standing position onto the carpet so it bounces back up and I catch it again without so much as a blip in the light. They have reversible pocket clips, sheaths and many other features. The polished Titanium ones are Limited Editions and there are also black aluminum ones. I am definitely going to expand my 4Sevens collection significantly.

I also have some Inova, Surefire and Fenix. Some people swear by Surefire but others feel they have been left behind. Fenix are also very good lights and I really like their quality and features but not as much as the 4Sevens.

One really good accessory for the Fenix lights is the light cone. It fits onto the end of the flashlight, turning it into a lantern. I now use that instead of my bulky lanterns for car camping.

I don't have any in-hand pictures to show size but here they are with some folders to give an idea:

Pelican also makes some decent lights and I will probably pick up a few. My Pelican dive light is probably 15 years old but still works with its original bulb!! I know it is overdue for replacement but it has too many good memories associated.

The Maglites are no longer in rotation :D.

I have not yet moved to using rechargeable batteries for various reasons but I will do so soon. I still use primaries (Surefire brand for CR123) and various for AA and AAA. I am no expert but Eneloop seems to be very popular with the guys on CPF.

Don't overpay

Make sure you get a light that runs on a 18650= 2 cr123's rechargeable

Don't overpay

I went thru enough Fenix, jetbeam, surefire, streamlight, nitecores and novatacs that I could have had more INFI. If only I had bought an HDS/Ra first, I could have saved all that cash. 'Course, I can stash all the rest away in packs now. :)

Flash it on folks eyes and they just get a dumb, glazed look on their face.

Allow me to demonstrate...

HDS/Ra made right here in Tucson by a great guy and a friend of mine.

They are Th Busse's of Flashlights

i have to agree with stabber on searching good prices online,
they pop up all the time, but if you have to get one now fenix is prob the best bfyb

Big fan of Fenix here! I have an LD10 and LD20, they are great bang for your buck and run off AAs. I also have a 4Sevens Quark AA and I find the beam much cooler (worse contrast) and the beam less focused. I would be very surprised if you are disappointed with either the LD10 or 20, I would recommend the LD10 as it is more pocket-able.

I agree with JAXX, Surefire U2. But mine has a twist, I carry the porcupine version (I can't post pics or I would show you). Just search Surefire U2 porcupine. Imagine if you replaced the SS with INFI!!

Another vote for 4sevens flashlights.

Something by 4Sevens. I love their stuff. The Quark 2aa models should work very well. Bright, clean beam, simple user interface, small enough to carry, and well built

Howdy,
I have two of the Fenix TK series. Really like the rechargeable aspect. Toss them on the charger, double check them with a volt meter and good to go. My TK 15 is a lot of bang for buck for sure.
Best

I went with surefire simply because it was what was what I could literally put get my hands on. I picked up a C2, G2, and a E1L. I have been really happy with them and the E1L is my goto light for almost all things I can want to do. I upgrade both the C2 and G2 to 120 LED but keep the 60 I'm one of them for better run time.

I'm planning to get a couple lights that run on AA and then pick up some of the Eneloop rechargeable battaryies. What's cool about the CR123 is that they have an amazing shelf life. I had a duracell that stayed in the package for 15 or so years and is actually powering my E1L just fine right now. I also have another duracell that has be in the package for 8 years and im betting it'll be there when I need it. With these properties it doesnt make since to waste the reliable long tern energy on ray to day stuff. So I'm going to use rechargable batteries for daily use and keep my CR123 batts and lights for emergency situations. Right now ive run through a few CR123 looking for crap around the house. I don't thing I took advances of what CR123 is capable of so I'll be looking for a ~$30 2xAA light and a 8xAA Eneloop recharging setup.

I also use Sanyo and Kodak rechargeable batteries and even though they run at about 80% of what normal batts run I can tell you that after about the third or fourth charge the you start saving money. My Sanyo rechargeable bats are over 10 years old and still kicking. I didnt use them at all for a 6 year stretch or so but most of them came right back to life.

For a budget light 4Sevens can't be beat and will have your strobe option. I am a huge fan of Gene Malkoff Drop ins for Surefire, I like one level lights. I don't want to be cycling through levels when I need light. I'd suggest a E1B with a VME head and a Malkoff drop in for the pocket. You can choose the type beam and tint you like and they are as bulletproof Busse. If you want to get fancy take a look at McGizmo, (titanium FTW). From the overkill department http://www.oveready.com/moddoolar/moddoolar-pocket-1-mode-/prod_237.html. Stupid bright but short runtime. Whichever you choose AW makes the best rechargeables and PILA is great charger option.

Those HDS lights look awesome! I'll probably get one about the same time I can afford Mystery Ranch packs.

For now I carry Fenix. I have an LD10 at all times for edc. Great light for the $. I keep an TA21 for home security and it goes camping with us every time. My HL20 is the best headlamp I've had and is used for work all the time and night time hiking as well. I prefer lights that use AA batteries since they are easy to find and plentiful.
