got my steel in today and started working on my FIRTS KNIFE!!!!!

i figured id finally post pics of my smithy. i just cleaned it up and rearranged it today. had to make room for the 2x42 craftsman im picking up and bringing home in a few days. just ordered belts for it too. still have to bolt everything down. one thing that isnt in the picture is my buffer but i have a little more work to do on it. on the third pic if you look on the hood of my car you can see my respirator. came in handy cleaning off my bench. well here are the pics:

Pics 1 and 2 show my forge and quenching area. you can also see my anvil in the first pic. second pic is of some of my hammers and my tongs and my magnet. you can also tell where my propane tanks came from. HEHEHEHE!!!! pic 3 shows my drill press, 4" angle grinder, 1x30, and my bench grinder. also in the pic is my remote controlled power strip. i covered the electrical tape with epoxy to make sure water doesnt get in there and on the circuit board. pic 4 is of my angle grinder again but it shows you how thin of a cutting wheel i use. thats a 3/64" wheel. pic 5 is of my power strip again and at the bottom you can see an assortmant of clamps and vise grips. pic 6 is to show you how much more space i have for more toys :D:D, and where everything is located including the forge. hows it look guys? also yes that is my RV which is my house in the background of a few of those so go ahead and laugh and make your jokes about it. HEHEHEHEHEHE!!!!!

Looks like you're on the way to acquiring a good working shop.

I just figured out how to turn off that bright red billboard in your sig line that dominates your many posts. I'm enjoying your posts much more now.

wow...
and i thought MINE was bad
*grins*
looks nice man. does it just stay out there or do you take it out every time?
take care now
(great knife btw)

thanks. i have a tarp i put over it and use my clamps that you see on the bottom rail to clamp it to the legs. i need to find my other c-clamps so i can save the one vise grip i use for holding down the metal while i cut it out. i also still need to mount the home make knife vise that swede2207 gave me. its made from a 1/2" flange, 1/2" nipple, and 1/2" pipe clamp. im going to take some left over 1/8" micarta and epoxy it to the jaws. im also going to make one later on from a bigger set of pipe clamps for when im clamping down my handle to let the epoxy dry. im also going to make a metal platform to mount to my bench for my jig saw so i can use it until i buy a bandsaw.

Man I should have KNOWN you lived in a trailer!! :D

Is that speaker magnet hanging there, for checking when your steel is up to critical?

of course!!!!!!! also i forgot to mention that the hammers you see hanging there are a 3# cross peen, 1# cross peen, and a 4# sledge. another hammer that you dont see is a 20oz ball peen. that leather bag is the weldong rod holder that came with my apron. i just nailed it to the 2x4 and stuck it in the cinder block and wedged it in there with cutoff pieces of cedar. also in the first pic you see my new blower that i found under my grandpas full size shop smith lathe. still havent painted it red yet but it performs a little better than the squirell cage fan blower i had before which now belongs to Parke1. i cant wait to add the 2x42 to my bench along with a vise.

Now do what I told you, on the platen on that 2 X 42. Add precision ground O1 or Pyrocrem (sp??) to it for making the plunge cuts. And leave that sucker as a 2 X 42. Plus stay off the computer and phone and grind more knives.:jerkit:  :D

im out of 60 grit for the 1x30 so i cant work on the knife. id like to save the rest of the belts i have for handles and such. ill probably head to moms later today and use the 2x42 as is until i can come back home and make that platen. swede2207 said he could help me on it. hes also got some scrap pieces of O-1. now where do i find pyrocrem?

Jacob, do you really live in the trailer on that property? I see you have done allot of brush clearing and preparing the lot. Do you plan to build a house and shop? Im envious of your young enthusiasum.

I get some of my 2x42 belts (and 1x42 belts also) from Sears, ebay, and Harbor Freight. Harbor fright only seems to carry the 1x42 (and 1x30) in 50, 80, 120, 220 grits. They are pretty cheap there and work ok. Sears and ebay have better quality belts.

bruce, yes i actually live in the RV.i was planning on building a 750sq/ft shop with a shower, toilet, and utility sink. ill probably still live in thr RV. if anything ill just buy a little building and turn it into a house. u dont need much room to live happily.

Hey bud, maybe if you're a good little Squee and stop sassin' yer elders, Santy Claws will bring you one of these next Christmas...

:D:jerkit:  :p ;) :D

Just joshin ya... I have more invested in tools and gear and stuff than I do in my house too! :D I'm renting my house so, not too much I can do to it. I did paint the bench and walls around it in the basement with white latex primer (hey it was free! ) and put some fluorescents in. At least now I can kinda see what's goin' on down in the Dungeon, heh. And no problems getting it dark enough to watch steel get hot!

Grats on the knife Pimpin, looks like your setup is coming along well. My wife gets back from Austin on tuesday and she has been loving down there, so it looks like the move is for shure. Cant wait to get together and make some kinves/drink some beer (in that order of course).

im here at moms house right now and will be here til wednesday. mom gave me the 2x42 craftsman along with a 6" Duracraft swivel base bench vise made in 1985, some flat brass strips (may come in handy) and a few miscellanios tools i needed. now all i need is to setup a little table outside tomorrow and do some work on a knife i brought with me. man am i lucky. the only tool on my bench i had to pay for was the 1x30. the rest mom gave me from grandpas. HEHEHEHE!!!!!:thumbup:

You need to have all that wiring checked out for the way you're using it and the location you're using it in. Is it on a breaker system, ground wire? Even a little bit of moisture from morning mist can be lethal. 115V is very dangerous if not properly grounded, especially the way you have it. Even the surge protecter has been messed with and appears to have had the breaker removed. Better get that tarp soon and cover that stuff, your ruining the drill press table and base, and probably a few other things.

ive had the tarp for a few days already. i secure it down with c-clamps to the legs and make sure its tight. everything is properly grounded in that power strip. its hooked to the outside outlet on my RV. my RV is hooked up to the electrical box my uncle (master electrician) hooked up for me.. when im not using my tools i turn off the power to the strip. i took electronics and computer classes in highschool and i know my solder joints inside are great. i have no worries about it. thanks for the concern tho man.

thanks luke. i just ordered a 2"x6" piece of pyroceram from darren over the phone earlier tonight. i dont know when it will get here but i hope hes able to ship it out tomorrow.
