Got some new blades...

Hardly qualifies as "scrimshaw." :)

I scratched a primitive deer into the antler and stained it. I love the images of the pre-historic cave drawings. The nice thing about any knife I make is that I really can't ruin it. :D

Turned out ok, by my utility standards.

First step is drilling holes.

This knife is going to have the longest handle I've ever had!

Thank you, Andy, Bill...

Still think you guys should get some of these blades and play. HD sounds like he will be making lovely knives, and Andy...hell...have at it, you've certainly got the skills. (Notice the distinctive styling of the sheath I made? :D)

Bill, if I can do it, you sureashell can.

Jump in, the water's fine.

Well here's what I came up with using the first of 3.

Bloodwood scales, blue liners. I left the handle full length on this one. I made it sort of round. Feels good. These are cool.

The tangs on these are kind of rough and rounded on the edges. I may go back and lay the spine and back of the handle on a belt sander to square it up.

that came out bad a$$ HD... i love it... it looks like a handy little knife for sure.... it also kind of reminds me of a kwaiken...

Absolutely loverly!

Nice execution, HD.

I find it has turned into an EDC out here in country.

Congratulations.

That's awesome! I prefer shorter blades, but have large hands! Guess what I'm going to attempt!

I thought I'd dislike the long handle but the way it is as far as top to bottom of the handle distance and the way I shaped the scales it's really handly:thumbup:

Hey Hollowdweller,

What type of wood and stain did you use? I really like the color and shape of your slabs. I may have to try a project of my own.

Thanks,

Thank you.

The Lapland and Scandi blade shapes are probably the most utilitarian for the kind of life I lead, and the uses to which I put a knife.

The "Sarge" is my first choice for deer processing, but a lot of that is just plain ole bias on my part.

C'mon guys, you skilled folks, the blades are only $8.00 each, and at Ragnar's, only $30 shipped for three !!!

Here's the site blade description:
#KBH-837; Cobbler's knife blade. , This is a handy blade with a lot of possibilities. The cutting edge is about 3 1/4" long and the overall length is about 8 1/4". The blade is satin polished carbon steel about .064" thick. The tang is about 7/8" wide. Just as it is, it would make a survival kit knife that takes up almost no space. A bit of tape would make the handle more comfortable. You could also add handle slabs for a full tang knife, or simply wrap ithe tang in cord. $8.
