Great Deals you have found lately.... i.e. too cheap to pass up new knives

Cold Steel Full and Mini recon 1 for 140$. I met two guys (son/dad) who told me they trade more than they collect, and they told me they got an Emerson for 100$ in a trade. I’m still beating myself up for not getting their number, I would’ve loved to see their collection.

i discovered quite by accident premium Chinese made knives..With prices that fit in that to good to be true range..Luckily this time for me 85% of the time thats not the case and you can spend 25$ and get something every bit as good as a brand name knives i.e. Cold Steel,Spyderco,Benchmade,Emerson,ZT etc etc..I have owned both and with a little reading you will buy something with the quality you demand at a price that will surprise you...

What exactly are "premium Chinese made knives". Looking over your previous posts what you have meant by that is "clones/knockoffs".

If you are not talking about clones, I would like to see some examples of what you are talking about.

Clearly there are premium Chinese knives being made now....but they aren't $25.

oh i have spent more AND you can spend more but there so many below the 50 dollar price point that are as good as the big name 100-200 dollar knives..i am taking pics of my collection ..Will have to figure out how to post..and as far 'knockoffs' that term truly does not do them justice they are indistinguishable from their parent knives..

S stlbob , by promoting clones you are, literally, promoting theft from members here that people know personally.

And it doesn't matter if a clone is has quality that meets or exceeds it's "parent," as you like to call it. "Victim" would be a better word.

It. Is. Still. Theft.

And on top of all that, there is a world of inexpensive knives out there that are great knives that don't rip folks off.

There is no excuse for buying one.

I don't see how much clearer it can be made.

“Knockoffs” are “ripoffs”. No different than fake Vuitton purses, Ray Ban sunglasses, pirated DVDs, Nike shoes, etc. It’s just wrong and the materials are almost never as good. They may look good at first, but a counterfeit of a high end knife will not be as nearly as good long term.

If a cheap Chinese knife is not marked with a fake logo, isn’t identical in shape and not a blatant ripoff... I don’t personally consider it always to be a clone or a ripoff. YMMV.

Hell, I just received a $16 Sanrenmu that looks a little bit like a CRK and it is a fantastic knife. Maybe better than most $50 knives, but a $16 Chinese Knife will never be as good as most $100+ knives from anywhere including China. Great steel, machining, heat treat, etc. isn’t cheap.

I've bought a few cheaper Chinese knives to on-sell to people at work who like my folder but won't pay for a Spyderco/ZT/BM - very expensive here in NZ. (Read: No you can't borrow my knife. But for only $xx you can have this).
Some Chinese knives are pretty good for the price - because they are so cheap. I always avoid obvious clones/copies/ripoffs, I have too much admiration for the quality folders I own to support the theft and inferior replication of such designs.

And if you're saying a Slysz Bowie clone, for example, is as good as my real one, I'm calling BS on that.

If you are going to continue to seemingly promote clones and design theft then your tenure here will be brief and uncomfortable. Much better to understand how and why it's wrong, and learn from some of the very knowledgeable and experienced people here (no, not me) if a genuine interest in quality knives is indeed the reason you are here.

How much do lower cost options like the Spyderco Tenacious line or Ontario Rats/Utilitacs tend to run down there in NZ?

Around NZ$90 to NZ$120 including postage. Maybe 10 to 15 bucks less if I buy from overseas.
Most people here seem to balk at anything over about NZ$40 - $50 on a user pocket knife.

Local sports shops here (small rural community) have a nice range of Bear Grylls Gerbers and Paraframes for NZ$80 to $100 and that's about all. People don't exactly know what they are other than 'a pocket knife', and complain they cost too much.

Dang that sucks. Per the conversion calculator (generously supplied by Google :D) the prices should be right in the that lower range. Is it the man trying to get a little bit of his on the sharp pointy things that drives the price up a tad?

A tenacious at BHQ is $43, + $20 postage, US$63 = NZ$82, add in a buck or 2 for Visa charge. That would be best case, some US sites only use postage options of US$30 to $40.
To many people here, that is an 'expensive' pocket knife.

I can't link to a NZ retailer here of course, but the prices are Tenacious - NZ$109, Rat1 from NZ$65 to $80. Add $10 for postage.
A G10 Native 5 S110V is NZ$375.

i own lots of high dollar SOG,collect Case knives, own several 5160 high carbon katana's that i use they do a lot more than sit on a rack that have cost me high 4 figures..but forgive i feel no shame nor remorse buying these knives and if by doing so you all get your panties in a knot i cant help that..so this is a forum if my view do not align exactly with the crowd im a bad guy..??? arent we all adults here.this isnt grade school for gods sake. And im sorry i find it tough to believe that members here are buddies with the people who run Emerson ,Cold Steel,Spyderco etc etc..and the thought that someone doesnt believe in their quality thats fine,if all of a sudden demand went up hell it might end up costing a great deal more...i have done nothing to offend anyone but give my views,i have been a lot more polite than the responses i have been given..

love it when you type in one word sentences .....

I hate it when folk use the phrase, but the post picture says it perfectly: " 'nuff said"

marcinek nailed it perfectly with one shot. Please don't turn this entertaining thread into a f'in lesson of sanctimonious screaming about clones and America. All of the regulars can recite the lecture by heart.

okay not trying to turn anything into anything..since i posted i have done nothing but defend myself..I am just going to not post in this thread...folks take themselves far to seriously..

Yeah, no. If you support clones and counterfeits don't expect anyone's warm welcome around here.
