Great Deals you have found lately.... i.e. too cheap to pass up new knives

We all like bargains and there are some decent inexpensive Chinese knives that use there own designs, but if a design of a knife is obviously trying to make the buyer think they are getting a quality knife as the original but at a lesser price, that is a a rip off or clone. They are trying to use the original legitimate knife's design, shape , or functionality as a way to entice you to buy them. I have seen clones in markets also use the logo or a variation there of as well. After some use, that bargain will show its true value by failing or breaking apart, leaving the buyer with a bad taste in their mouth. The old saying my father taught me still applies, if it is too good to be true, it usually is.

I would have a hard time feeling sorry for someone who knowingly bought a clone of a Fallkniven F1, then realizing it does not turn out to be such a good deal. Those knowingly buying the clones, are making the company or retailer selling those stay in business, with the end result that someone who is not as aware or taking time to research before buying, will fall prey to buying that item. The bottom line is someone trying to make a dollar, at someone else's expense, that is dishonest, that is cheap. No better than the snake oil they are trying to sell.

@stlbob, you stated that you doubt there are friends of some of the big name brands, is your point that if you buy the inexpensive knives that you are somhow going to hurt their sales? Not trying to attack your character in any way, just do not understand how buying inexpensive knives will teach the big companies any lesson, what is your point?

okay not trying to turn anything into anything..since i posted i have done nothing but defend myself..I am just going to not post in this thread...folks take themselves far to seriously..

No, what you have done is advocate clones.

You can love them if you want, but we don't have to.

And, most importantly, the owner of this site and his representatives - the mods - have repeatedly stated they they feel advocating clones has no place on this site...and what they say is law.

No doubt you will turn up in another thread doing the same thing again. Good luck with that.

Hell, I just received a $16 Sanrenmu that looks a little bit like a CRK and it is a fantastic knife. Maybe better than most $50 knives, but a $16 Chinese Knife will never be as good as most $100+ knives from anywhere including China. Great steel, machining, heat treat, etc. isn’t cheap.

Those SanRenMus are meant to look like Sebenzas. If "Well they made it look a little different" and "Well, it's better than most $50 knives!" makes you feel OK about them, good for you. Just doesn't work for me.

But I don't want to sidetrack this thread any further....I am looking forward to more great deals folks got on knives that are not clones, or "tributes," or "homages." Yuk.

So where do you draw the line with a product that is a blade, a lock and scales? Lots of reputable companies rip off the Syderco hole, Emerson Wave, other manufacturers blade shapes, etc. This isnt new.

If I own a knife that isn’t branded or shaped to look almost identical to another product, I can sleep at night. I have 50+ high end knives. My buying one $16 Chinese knife to see if it makes it across the Canadian Border and ultimately finding it of good quality isn’t going to keep me up at night. BIG difference between this and buying a CRK branded clone from China IMO.

Now that this is completely derailed and poisoned, I hope the mods move it into another part of BF called "The Great Clone War Bitch" section.

It would take up half the allowable bandwidth available with people that "just have one more thing to say about it" because it is possible no one has ever heard their opinion (and it's important!). stlbob has indicated that he is butt hurt and is going away, not to post on this thread again. So who are you guys teaching about clones? Each other?

I can't believe there is still so much life in a subject that comes up once a week.

I agree with you. It's freaking tedious.

But it's only because some person wants to show us their clones and counterfeits every week. I'd love to ignore it but there are not a lot of moral/ethical lines to be drawn in this hobby. There's basically a place for every kind of knife enthusiasm on this forum with two exceptions: scammers and cloners. Scammers get called out in GBU. There's no dumping ground for the cloners. Honestly, I hate derailing these GKD threads but what's the alternative? Acceptance? :(

Got a Benchmade Ti Monolock for $190 at a great brick and mortar dealer. Benchmade official dealer and everything, it was a return but showed no signs of use. Not even snail trails.

I can get most Benchmades for between 30 to 50% off as part of my employee discount, same goes for some ZT and Spyderco knives.

I've talked to people who work part time at stores like that mostly for the discount.

Also, I don't go on Reddit anymore. This whole attitude is prevalent there. It's not my style.

Whats the blade steel on that bark river ? You robbed that one !

There are two Ti framelocks from a Japanese company called Katsu. They are only $100. (Just search katsu titanium framelock on google). They are big knives, 4 inch blade but so so so SO well made. I have never seen another ti framelock of this quality for 100$. (Maybe kizer) They are super smooth on bearings and seem like they should cost atleast $200. Vg10 blade. Fit and finish came absolutely flawless.

It is an amazing knife for the price. One of the best value knives I have ever seen. I can not recommend it enough.
