Great Eastern Cutlery ( GEC ) group shots / photo requests

So I received my black micarta trader today. I am a complete novice as you can see by my 3 posts, but from what I do know fit and finish are great. There is a tiny bit of up and down blade play. This is my first traditional lockback. Is this normal?

Yes, common on pretty much all production lockbacks. Sometimes you get lucky but there's no rhyme or reason to it:)

Enjoy your Trader, been eyeing up those myself.

No apologies necessary my friend and I thank you for taking the time too indulge my request. That sure is a great selection of wharnies. I have always wanted the half congress and that pic makes me want it even more. Also leaves me anxious to see the new 48 trapper. Got a favorite out of the bunch? Would love to read your opinion on the differences and which blade you like more.

Thanks again Brett :)

These are the ones that made the cut:

L to R: Big Jack in Genuine Stag (54), Scout in Burnt Stag (73), Congress in pre-Ban Ivory (61), Bullet end EZ-Open in African Blackwood (85), EZ open barlow-ish thing for Bull Dog Brand in green bone (26), Conductor whittler in blue denim acrylic (33), Teamster Jack in To-MAH-Toe (CC HJ6/66).

Nice collection! What's going on with that 66 teamster? I can't make out what the 2nd blade is. So what is it? Thanks ~

It's a punch blade. The shield has CC HJ6 on it, which stands for Charlie Campagna Harness Jack 6.
It's one of waynorth's SFOs in tomato acrylic.

^ a punch!

It's a teamster jack - the punch would be essential for repairing reins for the horses, or other draft animals. It retains its usefulness more than, say, a hoof pick.

EDIT: too slow!

Howdy Jeff! It's tough to choose an absolute favourite between my wharnies, but I will say that the #55 Hound Tooth gets the most pocket-time. Such a good lookin' design and very comfortable both in hand and in pocket. GEC hit a home run with this one, imo... 'nuff said!

The GEC-made Fruitport is probably the superior folder of the bunch, truth be told. Excellent fit & finish, fantastic convex edge (thanks to the folks down at Bark River; far better than any GEC factory edge I've received to date,) fits my hand well, and is comfortable to carry. Comes with a very nice leather pocket slip too! On the days when I can't decide between a larger or smaller folder, the 3.75" closed frame of the Fruitport is a perfect compromise. Pick one up if ya can; you won't regret it!

The #61 is a good knife. Nice and slim in pocket, but it's heavier than the others due to the big bolsters. Unless I carry it in a slip pouch, it tends to sink to the bottom of my pocket and lays horizontally. I like the secondary coping blade but it has a pokey corner that I feel when using the master blade. Not sharp, just distracting. For some reason, the master blade is giving me a bit o' trouble setting the edge. I'll have to set aside some time to put a proper edge on it; once I do, I'll probably carry it more often.

The #25 is a great little wharnie! I also have an Easy Open #25 sheepsfoot in 440C. Both are spectacular secondary carry knives but I'd certainly be comfortable carrying either solo for EDC.

Hope this helps ya make a decision, fella!

I just realized that all of my current GECs have Spearpoint blades. I've got a Norfolk #31 with a Wharncliffe blade on the way, and I'm also planning on picking up another GEC pattern or two with Clip point blades. Obviously, the Spearpoint is my current favorite type of blade profile.

Sorry about the low quality photo. The lighting this evening was not the best for cell phone photography.

Here's a group shot as of now. Had a few out to clean and sharpen so I thought I would take a pic!

Which thread was it a guy asked if any GEC's were collectible yet? Looks like you have most of them Jeff!

Bob, only time will tell, but the Cubans are never going anywhere. I still have quite a few to find.

Can anyone put a 33 Conductor side by side with a Pemberton? Or also a 33 with an 85? Curious to see this pairing to gauge the size of a 33 (don't have one but I have a Pemberton and an 85).

Thanks!

I don't have one with the Pemberton but I do have these 2 I took with the #33 and #85. The top two are a #48J and #12J Powderhorn.
