Great Eastern Cutlery ( GEC ) group shots / photo requests

PMEW, those are some fine looking 25's! A bit too small for me, but they look great!

I'm hemming and hawing about a Calf Roper Jack. I have the Calf Roper in Ebony and love it.

Several on the forum here have got me interested in the Jack, in particular I believe Andi's green jack is beautiful.

I'm trying to tell if I like the Purple Sage scales or not. Most of the pics ive seen on here and from vendors look great..........but because I have several Case knives.....Im a little worried about bone die jobs.

Anyone able to share their purple sage experiences? Pictures would help.

Thanks,

Jim

I personally don't own any purple sage knives, however of all the bone handled GEC knives I have had, none have ever been horribly mis-dyed or mismatched.

GEC is definitely a a few steps above Case when it comes to QC so I wouldn't be too worried about the bone dye-jobs

Here is my Purple Sage, not the best of pictures but believe me i love my Calf Roper and would not go anywhere without it , i have no idea what real purple sage looks like, but the scales on my #66 are fine and in my experience will reward you with a nice finish if you brush them in warm soapy water and smooth some Ren Wax into them.Finally stay away from those jacks and go calf roper you know it makes sense.

I love my calf roper....but the sheeps foot was a little too proud for me to get a comfortable grip. I ended up sanding Down the kick and now love it. Though the back spring is a little sunken as a result. So...was thinking of getting the jack version to avoid the same problem. Not sure if it's a common issue or not.

From the pics I've seen, the covers look more like a brownish color than a purple. I was worried Id get it and have a purple knife. But all the pics I've seen keep me interested.

anyone have more pics?

I've had to file down a few kicks as well... sometimes the points of the blades almost sit proud. I'd rather have a sunken spring than cut my palm. Some of the two blade knives are less comfy than others. I have two of the #66 Jacks and they are very comfortable in hand. In fact, I think I posted a pic either on this page or the last with one showing the pen blade closed.

I posted one of these pictures in another thread, but thought they might be more at home here.

I am also looking at the purple sage and garnet jacks. Trying to decide what one I like best. I would love to find a #66 in the green bone like Andi and Jack have, I think a few other also have them and show the on occasion.

The #66 pattern is amazing ....doesn't matter if it's jack, roper, or slim. Andi's and Jacks green from 2010 are amazing. I traded for one but mine had significant bone shrinkage, so I sold it. I bought a purple sage and like it a lot. Paired with my calf roper, and Texas rose, I would say I'm set....but I really want a long pull Northfield in cocobolo. Soon!!!

Wow......thanks for the pics!!! That Purple Sage looks amazing. I was worried it would be purple.......but that looks awesome.

Thanks Peter!

The top knife is a #66 Calf Roper Jack in Purple Sage Jigged Bone and the bottom one is a #68 White Owl in Autumn Gold Jigged Bone. Not a whole lot of difference between the two IMO but samples vary.

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have a few photo requests;

In 2008 Great Eastern made a run of 57 unserialised 252208 barlows for the open house event. Most of these were gorgeous acrylic that I cannot find many images of anywhere. Can anyone help me out with a juicy photo or two?

Also from 2008 the following covers on the 252208 barlows I haven't seen;

Abstract
Purple Haze
Rose Petals
Brown Bone
Honeydew
Duck Feathers
Brown Jig Bone
Green Jig Bone

Yes yes I know... my obsession is getting the better of me.

Thanks,

Paul
