Great Eastern Cutlery ( GEC ) group shots / photo requests

An updated group shot :)

Oooh, a yellow rose 66 and a coffee house acrylic 57 in the same picture! And me with no knife money. At least I can enjoy your photos. Thanks for the update.

That picture really shows the similarity in the two frames. Holding them though is two different storys, the #66 is almost a perfect square making it feel more round in hand. The #57 feels more like a coin in its proportions but with all the right curves. Ill work on more pics for ya in the coming days

rockgolfer, your #66 yellow rose jack photos get me excited to receive mine back from the GEC factory. It's been a couple months now, I hope it shows up soon!

I've got a few fair to middlin' quality slippies, but after having read through this thread, I think I've found my grail knife. To me, the ebony Tidioute boy's knife in 1095 is just about as perfect a knife as has ever been made. Before coming to the forum here, I had no idea there even was such a company as GEC. Thanks for turning me on to such an awesome company. Now all's i gotsta do is save up for it...

Yep, that surprised me a bit when I got mine a couple of weeks ago. Needs some time to getting used to.
The coffee house acrylic might just convince me to try it someday :) Is it translucent?

After seeing those same pictures I can't say I disagree. That one really hits all the right notes.

Nice shot! I'm gonna use the yellow rose one as my desktop background while I wait in anticipation for mine to finally get back to me.

Your 66 will have a warm welcome home to its growing family :)

Everyones photos of the 25 kill me. I love that wood bare end with the threaded bolsters ya got, I just cant use a small knife like that. With how well the #15 has taken off I hope it sees many variations as its size is more my style.

I just got it back yesterday, and they did an incredible job. I bought it new from an online retailer, and when it got to me it had a number of issues. Long story short, GEC fixed it up perfectly better than new! I was thinking about letting this one go, but I seriously doubt I will be doing that anymore...it's much to nice to let go.

I will add a photo of my #66 lined up with my other GECs when I get the chance.

I really love the #25 and it's design, but I think I'm with you on it being a tad too small. Cutting open taped boxes is all I really use it for, and rarely do I even use it for that!.

The #15 TC Barlow gets much more pocket time and use with me than the #25 does. I just find it to be more useable for different applications. I too hope the #15 sees many more variations, as it is currently my favorite edc. I would also like to see GEC do a Northfield run of the Genuine Barlows!

I will post a new photo of all my current GECs lined up together sometime later today when I get the chance.

Sonnemann...are the handles the same width at the bolster and opposite end?

Thanks!

Thank you!

That is the GEC #33 "Conductor", and yes that is a forced patina.
I used a ferric chloride solution to etch the blades and the spring, I think it came out pretty nice.

Wow that looks really nice! I already love the Conductor but that patina really makes it pop. I might have to try this but I'll practice on an Opinel first. You wouldn't happen to have a write up on how you did it would you?

Fine picture and a varied collection.
Elicits mixed feelings in me though......WHY didn't I get a Coffee House Half Whitt instead on the Green Pickle bone??:grumpy::grumpy: The CH suits the frame excellently.

Regards to all, Will

Unfortunately I have sold the 42 and can no longer compare them. But judging from my memory of it and the pictures I believe the larger #42 knives are scaled up in every dimension.

Good to hear they took care of you. I love how they actually stand behind their product. Now start using that bad boy

Thanks Will. I am trying to keep my collection interesting and varied . I was tempted by that green bone as well, it certainly is a great looking color and I love the clean simple pattern of the jigging. One of the reasons I like my 66 so much.

I mix the FeCl3 about 50/50 with warm/hot water and use a Q-tip to apply the solution. Keep the surface as completely covered as possible. Doesn't take long, between 30 seconds and 2 minutes depending on how dark you want to go. Rinse with running water to arrest the action (you will need to dry and oil the joints afterwards). I use Flitz to "knock down" the darkness and leave a more aged look.
Be sure to really clean the steel first. I use acetone (fingernail polish remover).
