GRRRRR!!!!! AAAHHHHHH!!! I "thought" I was getting a RC-4

A couple of notes....

Please send me your order number and a secure address and I will ship a new knife. I believe we are out of that knife, but have more inbound from RAT Cutlery and will ship ASAP.

Kudos to you amigo.

Man, thieves really piss me off. Sorry to hear it.

Thanks for the Kudos everyone.

No need to help pay for it, but I do appreciate all the word of mouth I can take! :)

Derrick gets all my knife business. He has always taken care of me.

I recently spent over $500 on an order and he threw in a free Bark River ELK knife!! That's over a $100 knife, free!!

As he said, his prices aren't the absolute lowest, but I will pay his prices for his always in-stock and AWESOME customer service.

Here's the free knife he sent me:

Just curious, what kind of envelope was the knife shipped in that someone was able to open it with their finger? I seem to remember the knives I bought from KSF were packaged pretty well. Then again mostly BRKT's which are already in boxes. Was it a padded envelope, or a cardboard USPS envelope?

I can't let this go on... Derrick misspoke... he doesn't 'take care of his customers'... he SPOILS us! Fine folks at KSF. Oddly, I con't recall getting anything from them that wasn't in a box. Of course, it is the 'season' - the season where thiefs know that nice gifts are arriving at folks homes.

Some years back, I had a 1/8 scale Pocher model kit of a Ferrari F40, an ~ $450 scale model, with it's huge 2' x 2' x 3' shipping box emblazoned with Ferrari on it, ordered for my grown son (I told him I'd buy him a Ferrari one day - I drove Alfas then!). It was easily read from the curb - up my driveway and up my steps to my stoop. The third shipment arrived while I was home. The second try finally appeared - opened - on my stoop a week after the third one. Apparently, it's thief didn't want it - I paid for it, too. The UPS guy assured me he had put the first two on my stoop when I signed for the third one - they were memorable boxes. I ended up building his for him. He's been a commercial pilot for years now - he can afford a real one now. Still - how brazen to pick those boxes from my stoop - in broad daylight.

I am saddened by your loss - and not shocked one bit by Derrick's reply. Remember him when you want a new knife!

Yep, Had much the same thing happen to me, except on a larger scale. I had ordered an item and requested it be shipped such that I, and only I had to sign for it, it wouldn't be dropped off, and no one else could accept shipment. Well, long story short, I found out it had shipped and been delivered. So I went down to UPS and got the girl to get the paperwork out. it had shipped right, my signature required. The driver had left it on the porch, no signature of any kind was gotten. I asked her if she knew why it shipped with a HAZMAT ticket. Because the [bleeper-blanker] stole a CRATE of ammunition. Oh yeah, many pants were wet that day.

Bottom line, I won't do business with any outfit that WON'T ship USPS to my PO Box.

As for KnivesShipFree, Derrick's response doesn't surprise me a bit, it's just how they do business there, and why I do mine there.

Question: What is the sentence for being found guilty of postal theft? I keep seeing theft being an issue. My father caught some guys stealing post in Zimbabwe and they got 7 years. (note they still didn't refund kit stolen in the post office!)

We have, in most SADC countries, a crime catagory of Economic crime. A type of crime that directly detracts from someone's living is likely. In Zimbabwe where cars are scarce, particularly in the '80s, they curbed theft by making car theft a manditory minimum of 13 years, postal theft 7 years. Theft of livestock is heavy in Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe 2-6 years depending on what is stolen. Gold/ Emeralds (illegal) is 7-10years Zimbabwe, raw gem amethyst is (was) 2 years in Zambia.

Slap a 7 year on theft of postal order would do a world of good in the states. If it mucks with the livelyhood of a significant portion of a population then it should attract a kick to touch policy.

First let me say that having something stolen from you is terrible. Having a nice knife stolen from you that YOU HAVE NOT EVEN USED YET is horrendous!

Second, with that kind of unwavering loyalty to customers I will be purchasing some items within a week for the new year from KSF.

I know "Knives Ship Free" are a favorite of some because they are friends of the owners or they like the service.

However, I do not find their prices good - even when you include shipping. And considering they ship with the US Postal service; that makes the price even worse..

I recently did business with a on line store that has gotten a bad review on this board and yet they shipped a $25 in a box with packing material so it didn't move around.

I hope you get your money back or another knife.

Why post this:confused: It has nothing to do with Original poster's statement, :confused:all it can do is start trouble

A couple of notes....

Insurance would not matter. Once they scan it as delivered, they consider their insurance done. Been there done that.

I am sorry to hear that the box was broken into and the knife was stolen.

Please send me your order number and a secure address and I will ship a new knife. I believe we are out of that knife, but have more inbound from RAT Cutlery and will ship ASAP.

We have never had trouble with a knife being pilfered from the US postal service, nor have we had problems with our packaging.

As to whether or not we have the best prices around...we don't. We have good prices, everything in stock, and good service. We take care of our customers.

Thats why we deal with Derrick. I don't know of anyother dealer that would eat 130 dollar loss that was not their fault.

By the way, If the Manufacturers pack the knife in boxes the retailer ships in boxes. Rat cutlery doesn't package their knives in boxes therefor....

Good customer service !

I have a question though when "Knives ships for free" mails a package is that full company name listed as the sender on the package? Or do you use an abbreviation?
Seems like that full company name on a package would be a dead giveaway as to the package contents and might increase the likelyhood of theft.

Most things we ship ship in boxes. Since RC knives come in just a baggie, we ship RC knives in padded envelopes--it saves about $5 per knife we send out. It all adds up. :)

Our return address is either my name or Bohn Distributing. I can't remember, but "Knives" is never on the package. No sense in advertising for people to steal it!! :)

I agree. Ticks me off when the company plasters their name all over the box.

I bought my wife a Coach purse for christmas, and Fed Ex left it on my porch, and it had coach plastered all over it. I was not happy, just glad I got home before it was swipped!

KSF is a go-to company for many people. I have no problem payin a little extra for piece of mind.

You are a great bussness man Derrick, but im sure everyone who has dealt with you knows that already.

I've never done business with Knives Ship Free, but I'm going to now because of this customer service :thumbup:

I want a RAT knife bad..My want and this thread collided and now I know where I want to order my RAT from but one question after looking at your site I cant see but do you ship to Canada? Thanks!

I recently went with a 'better deal' on an F1 blank. Got it from a site paid a hunk in shipping, but still ended up waiting two weeks to get my blade in hand. They didn't even ship it until a week after I placed the order, when I emailed to check on it.

The point is, I saved literally a few bucks on shipping and ended up waiting probably an extra week and half more than I would of if I'd ordered from someone reliable like KSF.

Well, I have to say I'm another one of the "never used KSF before, always will in the future" masses.

I am not really a believer in karma - but I do believe to some degree in the invisible hand of the marketplace.

In a sense, KSF just lost $130. But in another sense, they just spent $130 on pretty kickass advertising. So there might be cheaper guys out there, but I'd rather put my money in the hands of guys who get their spot in the marketplace not by being the ultimate no-frills race-to-the-bottom cheaper-is-better box shop, but by being smart, working smart, and doing the right thing.

Hell, it turns out you can make money by being the good guy! Other companies need to look at this kind of thing and take note. It's a good way to run a business.

We have good prices, everything in stock, and good service. We take care of our customers.

All true!!!

And I know what its like to have a RC knife stolen, and its not fun. Glad derrick is going to make things right for you.
