I was using the same logic. I have talked to peters about making my version and they don't have a problem HT 3v to that length, but who knows if it affects the scale they could treat them (less blades in the oven sorta thing) Thats why i was thinking bare minimum of 500-550. Plus if sharpening the thing means switching belts more often, that action will add labor costs etc etc..

Dan Keffler has a 20" blade on sale for $3,400. It would be nice to get something similar for less than 20% of that price.
