Looking closer, I see that those gray blades are 5.1s! They have a divot/hole drilled in them near the lanyard hole. Not in the same spot as the 4.7s though... Could there be gray ceracoated 5.1 Mystery blades in there too? Or are they just 20CV 5.1s?

Nice catch! I didn't even notice the choil or color difference.

Rhetorical question... does this mean anything other than 52100 will disappoint?

So far, I'm loving the one blade I have in this steel.

Hmmmm.......No, not necessarily. But getting a steel I know and love with Guy's geometry ground into it would be awesome.

Mystery steel, eh?

I only have one fixed blade in it, but have been very impressed with and would love to see a widely-available fixed blade in M4.

The 4.7 looks like an ideal size though, wish I would've gotten in on that one.

ellie, how much will it cost me to get the 4.5 in this super secret steel with the cerakote. i love that color and itll match my hunting camo, mpack, and s&w .40 vtac. i kind of need this knife. i really want it anyways.

Funny! Can you send me the link your video review and pics?? Somehow I missed it.

And how awesome is it that they are sending testers to regular people, not just the YouTube Famous folks.

I didn't make a formal review thread of the new finish, just posted some pics in ni1s' thread on the topic, my additions can be found here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1314914-Field-testing-the-new-finish/page4
Here is the video:

Again, it's an old-spec GSO-4.1 (skeletonized tang and all) but with the new 3V finish/HT, edge-thickness ~0.02".

I'll add some more photos into that thread...

I could be wrong, but I think they are uncoated, just the new peened finish - it looks a dull gray. But yeah, the extra hole probably indicates 20CV on those...

You are probably right! In indoor lighting I could see it appearing a dull gray

Wow! You guys rock! How did you decide who to pick? When do we get to find out what the steel is? I know... If you told me you'de have to kill me!

Keep pumping out good stuff! Dont forget to get out of the shop though! You guys need to take care of yourselves too, not just the customers!

That FDE looks awesome.

We came up with folks who we know will actually use the knives and give us feedback. Many of them are active on social media/here where they can share their experience, that way other customers aren't just relying on what we say about the steel. Quite a few of the testers have already placed orders for the GSO-4.7, so they will be able to compare two steel options on the same geometry. As soon as we start getting some reviews back we will spill the beans.

We didn't come to the shop on Thanksgiving! We are taking a weekend day off and there will definitely be some time off in January, after the holiday rush. Things are getting exciting again with the new production getting buttoned down and starting to ship out.

Those look insane!!! I love that coating.

I been wanting to see the coatings come back. Is there any other colors?

Right now, it is just this FDE. We pondered doing some black, but the more options there are the more time involved in them. The prices can stay that much lower if we stick with one. There will probably be a few color options offered in the new, super custom series of the future.

Those are just the CPM-20CV GSO-5.1s that were on the workbench. The new finish does look a bit like a gray paint in some lights.

Did you mean the GSO-4.7 or GSO-4.5 Bushcraft? I believe we are looking at $189 for the GSO-4.7, but don't quote me on that yet.

Did you mean the 4.5, Ellie? Pretty sure that was a 4.5 Bushcraft, not 4.7, for $189. The 4.7 is priced at $209 on the website.

The GSO-4.7 with mystery steel is slated for a new name and will be on a different page of SurviveKnives.com, at or around $189.

I really have nothing to add here... but this thread is so totally cool that I just had to say WOW!
