Rockspyder, Ellie stayed with the new heat treat protocol, Survive's 20cv was wearing out belts quicker than the previous runs. 20cv is amazing stuff as you said and fairly tough but if you get a few chips, have fun sharpening them out. Every steel has positives/ negatives and some find sharpening 20cv difficult.

I love the fact Guy is trying various steels like CMP154. I think with their new heat treat, it will be taken to a new level. That's why I thought I'd give it a go. I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

If 20CV, or 3V, were not available, I wouldn't hesitate on a S!K design with CPM154. And probably wouldn't in 154CM, for that matter. But I don't have trouble sharpening things like even CPM-M4 at ~62HRC, using stones and ceramic. Yet I have no doubt that these super steels eat belts quite quickly. But that is completely different from sharpening on a stone, and I'm not sharpening a double-digit number of knives daily on belts. Or stones, for that matter.

I'm sure you won't be disappointed. CPM154 is good. Just not something for me to get excited about.

I was just trying to make a case for CMP154 Rockspyder but your point is well taken. I am sharpening challenged but I am getting better. I haven't had to sharpen my Gso 5 in 3v yet but my 5.1 in 20cv did seem to respond fairly well to stropping. Thank goodness Guy sends knives out that are hair popping sharp from the get go. They seem to be close to 40 degrees inclusive.

And I'm not trying to bust your chops or anything. And not trying to denigrate CPM154. Just started out that I was prognosticating that 20CV would be next to run out, and my opinion why. Just don't want you to think that I think anyone is foolish for getting CPM154. Others on here have obviously been more impressed with it than I have.

Hey Tex, remind me what you use to field sharpen!

I use a small 1x3 fine Arkansas stone. I lay my blade flat and rub the stone in small semi circles to get the whole edge. Not great but does fine for me.

I also carry sand paper and an old sanding pad for my Dan Harrison which travels often with me. It has a convex edge.

i will not let the 4.7 be bumped to the second page this is the one to rule them all EDC for Men ..lol so um ya BUMP

Nice catch, my lord. I'll add this from the the production schedule, I think the best news about the 4.7 in awhile!

•GSO-4.7: Handles are en route. Preorders are scheduled to begin shipping right after GSO-5.1 Preorders

I'm pumped about this one as well i like the size of the 5.1 but i'm not a big fan of a finger choil on a smaller knife i like choking right up next to the handle for detail work but on anything larger makes perfect sense i think once we get these baby's in hand the bigger knifes are going to be more of a specialty item for specific tasks my thought anyways but i have XL hands so a 5 inch knife looks like a 3 incher lol i just think this is the best middle of the road EDC for me ....its like not to Hot not to Cold ....just right ...

This is good news for a couple of reasons... Here are two...

The 4.7 preorders can start shipping and...

30+ unnamed field testers are going to get ahold of mystery steel SK4.7s to try out!!!

It's funny, I didn't even look at the 4.7 I ordered a 3.5 and a 6. When they showed up on presale I jumped on one just because. Now I'm more anxious for this one than the others!
