In this case the dang handles seem to be the hold up. I know Guy is working like crazy trying to get 5.1's out, so once those are finished hopefully he can be working his magic on the edges of the 4.7's as the handles roll in!
 
Yeah, I'm with ya. I think realistically it's still going to be a while. Really haven' t heard of too many 5.1's showing up. As it seems, once a particular model starts to ship, 3 months seems around right . So maybe April through June for the 4.7's . Specultion of course. In any case, the wait will be worth it
 
I'm thinking (hoping) they are getting the last of the 5.1's out before February 8th. I'm basing that off of reports here and on Facebook and 2 youtube reviewers all receiving theirs.

Even if they spend a few weeks on Monday sales, I'd like to think the first folks will see their 4.7's this month. Then maybe the full 4.7 fleet will go out to customers over the next few months possibly even wrapping up by April. Time will tell!
 
I'll be surprised if they have all the 5.1's out by the 8th. Unless I'm missing all the traffic on here by people who have gotten theirs. Seems like a lot of people ordered, and few have received.

Speculation is the name of the game! :) Without it there'd be a lot less content on the internet. :P
On the 5.1 there was a seven month lead time between close of pre-ordering and product beginning to ship.
There are currently five models on which ordering has been closed during the last eight months.
The 4.7 closed ordering in the middle of June, so that looks like about an eight month lead time if it starts to ship this month.
As I've said before 2016 should be really exciting as all these models begin to ship out.
Any way you slice it Survive still produces faster and costs less for comparable quality than any true custom knife that I've ordered.
No offense intended to any custom makers out there that read this. :)
The custom makers let me have my choice of steel and blade design, so they have to start from scratch with every knife.
 
If anything maybe the date will get pushed back a week for opening up sales. I can't imagine they would start selling if there are current orders not fulfilled.

I think it is different by a fraction of an inch. Because Guy needs everything perfect, I really think he made the specs of each knife exactly for its own purposes of balance and ergonomics and did away with "mid sized handles" for multiple models. I'll have to check the specs on the website and do some mental math to confirm this.


EDIT for some specs:

4.7
Blade Length: 4.75"
Overall Length: 9.72"


5.1
Blade Length: 5.75" (tip to front of handle), 5.10" (tip to finger choil)
Blade Cutting Length: 5.37"
Overall Length: 10.93"

The 4.7 handle has different contour and profile than the 5.0

Wow, you and me both! If the S! team stays on track and is truly able to get the last of the 5.1's out and start sending 4.7's THIS week....... wow. Wow. My life will be forever changed.

Now I really want to know when everyone ordered their 4.7, so we can keep ourselves organized and stay at an unhealthy level of anticipation :D

Haha that's a lot of fours and sevens. You may need to order a flashlight to go with that, four sevens of course.
