Only have a few crappy pics I've already posted as I'm out of town for work. I'm actually in Idaho not more than an hour away from Survive! Sent Ellie a pm hoping maybe I could go to the shop on Friday and buy everyone lunch and have a look around but haven't heard back yet. :neglected:

There we go, nice! Are you in Coeur d' Alene, TD?

The balance on the RMD is such that it will just slowly rotate out of an open grip for me. Will the 4.7 sit in the hand with an open grip? How do you like its balance?

Neat. From that second photo, next to the RMD, it looks like it has the edge length of the RMD, without choil. And of course another couple minor differences. ;)

Are you talking about balance with index finger in the choil? Or full hand in the grip area?
The 4.7 is going to have to have some fantastic balance to totally displace my 'mandus. Not impossible, but difficult. Out of all the knives I've ever known, the original 'mandu size is my favorite. Whether RMD, IMD, or SMD.

I was thinking about in hammer grip, if you open your hand you know how the RMD is just blade heavy enough to slowly rotate forward on your index finger. From the comparison pic TD put up, I'm thinking the 4.7 might balance slightly back from the RMD, which would be perfect IMO. I've spent a good chunk of change trying to get the perfect balance on an ratmandu for me. The configuration that works for me is a drop point RMD with a full flat grind. There's just enough steel removed that it no longer rotates forward in open grip. It's about as close to perfection for my uses as it gets. Now if I could get a collaboration rmd with a full flat or high saber grind in delta 3V with a drop point and peened finish, solid pins or torque fasteners, and microtextured black g10 scales........... ;) Never gonna happen, but I almost described the 4.7, I think Guy has been reading my mail (figuratively) :D

From memory, I believe the 4.7 balances right behind the front screw.

I can get the RMD to balance similarly, but it's a tad bit more forward (not quite as natural):

I'm still waiting on my GSO-4.7 pre-order

Nice set of knives there! Thanks for the pics!
Just day dreaming of the 4.7 here at work...

Lol Me too man!

Chiral, thank you. Those first two pictures make me believe the 4.7 will sit nicely in-hand with no forward rotation in open grip as the index finger can sit just (barely) forward of the balance point that you show. Just as TD said, right behind the front fastener.

And as to our other correspondence.....right hand.

Just arrived today, much thanks to Ellie and Guy! Acquired 4/25, factory second. After a quick look-over the only reason to declare it a second is a tiny dimple where the drop point starts...but try telling Cindy Crawford a beauty mark makes you an "Ugly Betty"

I'll be posting more pics soon as this one's headed out to the woods this weekend for a trial run.

RSWanson: what a gorgeous 4.7! That dimple is nothing! I supposedly had bought a Brand-New Fallkniven A1 from an Amazon seller which had a bigger dimple than that and came in a mangled factory box. I had to get Amazon involved because after the seller had reviewed the photos I sent them, they judged it as "within specs"!. Congrats and enjoy that beast. Looking forward to your field use photos

More examples of factory 2nds are appreciated and good news for those to have scored them, but I am still perplexed that no one has a new factory 1st presale or preorder at this point despite "GSO-4.7: Preorders and Presale orders are shipping out in regular batches". Is this forum so narrowly focused that there are batches of 4.7's that are arriving to non forum members that no one is commenting elsewhere? After all this is the largest knife forum on the net. I'm not a FaceBooker so no idea if there are individuals receiving their 4.7's elsewhere.

Personally I hope that they are taking a honeymoon trip.

If some of us want to gather some fund$ for that, count me in with no quid pro quo. Maybe Silver who is our resident Social Media Guru, can hash something up together. I don't so social media. I'm a cranky mid aged man!

Casino: if the dimple is the only mar on the blade, I feel like I got over on them and owe Survive! twenty bucks.
