Gso 6 vs 5.1

I picked up a 6 a few weeks ago and it's a great knife. Although, for the snow camping trip I still grabbed my newer 5.1 in 20cv. I actually like the choil which is why I own three 5.1's. The problem is I like all of the Survive! lineup 3.5, 4.1, 4.7, 5, 5.1, 6, and 7/7 that I currently have. Unfortunately, the only ones I've actually used in the field are my 4.1 and 5.1 in 20cv, which are my go too knives these days. I'll probably try out another set of Survive! knives when I go on my next two night snowshoeing trip in March. I'll try to drag along the 6 and 5.1 for a comparison.

I have the same problem. However I've had my 4.1, 5.1, 7/7 and 10 all in 3v out in the field without any real staining or spotting. I do wipe them down and wash out the sheaths when I am done but the 3v is pretty stain resistant. Give your 3v knives a try. The good news is that if they do rust it's a spot that can be cleaned up and potentially give you some nice patina!

I like the 5.1 so much that I never even considered a 6

I can't wait to grab a 6 and compare it to the 5.1 a true show down, though the 5.1's choil sure does a good job of winning those of us over that normally wouldn't want one...

I scored a new spec 5.1 yesterday so I'm hoping I'll appreciate the choil on it.
I never thought I'd own 2 at the same time with damn choils!

You guys really need to try the new 7/7. The 5.1 is my hands down favorite but the extra blade length will make a difference. Granted this is about the 5.1 v 6 but I believe the same will hold true for the 6 if you don't want a choil.

I have a 6 on order, my thought process was I would have a smaller knife on me (the survive folder- hint hint Guy) for finer work. Add a saw and this would be good enough for me.

Are you "choil lovers" using the knife instead of a smaller knife? Sort of like a one knife deal?
If so, what's the advantage?

Yes and for me it's the ability to do fine work, cut, carve, chop and baton with a well balanced knife that you can choke up on with the choil like the 5.1 or 7/7. You can't beat a saw for what it does and, for me at least, you can't beat a 5.1 or 7/7 and a saw in the field. I don't really need a small fixed blade. If weight and bulk weren't an issue I'd have my Fallkniven GPK, a 3.5, a 5.1, a 7/7, a 10, a saw and an ax. If not then a GPK, a 7/7, a med to a large folding saw is all I really need.

lol this is addictive, I do keep looking for the 4.1 seconds, but I am really waiting for the folder.

I'm a lefty and my ZT 0566 is good but I think Guy can top it esp for lefties.

After that I want the kitchen knife...

The 4.1 is a spectacular and must have GSO. I spoke with Guy about a folder about 18 to 24 months ago. He might have a plan for one but I suspect it'll take at least 2 years to actually get it into production. Knowing this I decided to buy the below 2 ZTs and a few others to see which I liked the most. I like all of them but my favorites are the 0566, the Fallkniven GPK & Spyderco Paramilitary.

Thanks for this pic- I have the 0566bw as well and love it. Seeing the 4.1 next to the 0566 makes me want a 4.1- better handle slightly longer blade... I did try to get a 4.1 second today but I guess was 10 minutes was too late.
