It's not all bad, folks.
Wow, I'd forgotten what vibrant horn you have on your 2017 Guardians buffalo lambsfoot, Greg!!:thumbsup::cool: Is that pic taken at "your spot" on the way to work?

I love seeing Black Jack, a fantastic knife.:thumbsup:
Good Morning Guardians
Thanks, John. :) Black Jack is a solid and satisfying worker, but he feels a bit "common" compared to the classy American WCLF! ;):thumbsup:

Today's....

...
Your stag HHB is aces, Dennis!:thumbsup::thumbsup: That's a cool drill, too. When I was a kid we had one somewhat like that, but bigger than pocket size, and it had both drill bits and screwdrivers stored in its handle. Sort of an "up/down ratchet" design, right?

Thanks, Dwight. :)
Stunning AC! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Valley Jack is looking good, GT... must be hard to give that one a break!
Thanks, Matt. :) I have lots of knives like Valley Jack that would take over my pockets permanently if I didn't show them who's boss! ;)

...
Thanks GT, it's great to see the return of Black Jack
...
Thanks, Jack. :)

Fantastic pic of your SamDamLamb, Jack; first-rate stag!:cool::thumbsup:

Thank you, Dennis. :)
My son's corps did really well. They went undefeated, they ended their tour in first place in the Open Division, they won the California Championships for the Open Division, and they were 16th overall in the nation.:thumbsup:
...
Congrats to you son for his corps' success! :):cool:

That jigged bone WCLF will turn some heads, Matt, including mine (about 360˚)! ;):cool:

Y:eek:WZA, that's a sensational pic of your ironwood Guardians knife, FBC!:cool::thumbsup:

Outstanding stag on the mark side of your HHB, Bill!:cool::thumbsup: A model that combine the stag from your mark side and @Prester John Vince's pile side would be the stuff dreams are made of! :):thumbsup:

Mail Call
I think it was @WhittlinAway who put this up a while ago. Anyway, look out bass wood, here I come :)

Congrats on the new carver, OG!:thumbsup::cool: I hope you'll show us some of your projects!

That knife and pic certainly have MY joints all oily!:D:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Work's done for the day with the help of my freshly acquired stag AC, a super generous gift from across the pond! Thank you so much Jack, I love this knife!

Congrats on the Ashley's Choice, Barry; those ACs are renowned for their high quality!:thumbsup::cool:

Grand photo, too! You should post it in the Hat and Knife thread!

...
GT 5K Qs 5K Qs , I collected some representative samples of more pasties from the other two bakeries in my town:

TXqg0yd.jpg

One of them was a so-so frozen vegie premix again, but the last vegetable pasty, in the foreground of the pic was the best of the local ones I tried. It was made of a good assortment of real fresh vegetables with a creamy potato mash binding it all together. The pastry was the closest to a shortcrust too. It was delicious!

I started at the low end of the scale, and will gradually work my way up to the no doubt authentic Rob the Butcher’s Cornish Pasty with shortcrust!

I’ll look forward to seeing some peer reports of one of your Lambsfoot knives slicing up a Yooper Pasty, once you return from your vacation! Will you go anywhere near the town of Seney, where that Hemingway ‘trout fishing story’ is set?
...
Thanks for your continued pastie research, Chin; I appreciate the sacrifices you make in the name of science! :D:thumbsup::thumbsup:
I hope to try some pasties while we're Up North starting a week from tomorrow, but I fear my reports will be somewhat inadequate for a couple of reasons: 1) I don't always remember to bring my camera on our daily travels and 2) I'm not as articulate a writer as you are.
We went through Seney - right on Route 28, the main east-west highway across the Upper Peninsula - a couple of summers ago on our way to Pictured Rocks. Not much there at all, although I noticed on Google Satellite today that there is still a railroad line about 200 feet south of, and parallel to, the main road.

Why I Love My £30 Ebony Lambsfoot Working Knife
...
I enjoyed your ruminations on, and ode to, your ebony lambsfoot, Chin!:thumbsup::cool: (Except the steel discussion was way over my head. :()

I will be heading out soon for another three day fishing trip with the family. ...
This is especially posted for my fellow Trekkie, GT 5K Qs 5K Qs This one is now special among my small Sci-Fi collection...

Set Lambsfoot to stun
Have a great trip, John.:thumbsup::)
That action figure is AWESOME! :D:thumbsup::cool::cool::thumbsup: Picard wields that WCLF like a pro; I'll bet his crew really pays attention now when he says, "Make it so." ;)

I'll bet the stag HHBs think they're "above" taking the bus, but a rosewood HHB is perfectly comfortable with public transit! :):thumbsup:

Interesting article. I think I heard Alan Alda as Hawkeye Pierce say that while imitating Groucho. Maybe I heard Groucho say it too.

Thanks! A great quartet. Even though the other three are prettier, I may go with the rosewood again tomorrow.

Maybe M*A*S*H is where I heard it. That African rosewood is exotic, Vince!:thumbsup::cool:

Black Jack is a fine choice for this week.

Glenn, the tire tracks on the handle are very distinctive! ;):thumbsup:

Thank you Gary, (and thanks for your perseverance) , that one was a lucky find :) I had to look up the phrase - 'Black is the way to go' according to the Google translator, but who trusts those?! :D

I think that other word actually comes from the Greek, thank you for your consideration my friend :)

Interesting link GT, I've always thought of it as an old music hall joke

I know I'm a hard task-master ;) I think all of us who have one have been very pleased with it, I know I have :) Black Jack, when he was little more than a callow youth! :D

Thanks for the replies, Jack. :) I, for one, think Google translators are much better than nothing (although that's independent of trust).:D

Are you kidding me/ Your Black Jack is handsome and built like a tank. I'd put it against any knife out there.:thumbsup:

I knew you would appreciate it, GT. :)

gave up trying to do any forum stuff on my phone. I feared that I wouldn't be able to suppress the urge to throw my phone as far as I could if I kept trying to type on that little tiny keyboard. :D
I understand that! I have a laptop, but the  phone is the easiest for me. When I was working, we were issued Blackberry's, and I was always on call. More than one "slipped " from my hand at a high rate of speed!:D
Ha ha, it’s interesting that tolerance to the superhot chillies builds up quite fast, but fades after a few days of not indulging.

A sip of that Bloody Mary gives a nice heat for a few minutes, then you’re ready for another.;)
Well, hats off to you my friend! I keep digressing to the mild side now a days.
My nemesis is the Trinidad Seven Pot Brain Strain.
Mmmm, death on a stem!? Habaneros are as far up the scale as I'm going to go, be safe!:D
I have always loved firearms, glad I'm able to have what I have.
Nice! I grew up, probably like you, hunting and fishing in the Gila mountain, a lot on horseback), grew up with guns. Had my first .22 single shot when I was about 7, and an Ithaca 20 gage single shot, and we were always shooting. Never really had any assault style (other than being a grunt in the army) except for a SKS I modded up with a scope and a Choate monte carlo type stock, but I still love to go out and put rounds down range!:thumbsup: I have been eyeing a couple, one being a Marlin .45-70.
Nice pics Dennis,
Thank you, my friend!;)
Good morning, Guardians.
T25Yh2I.jpg
It's good to have a HHB and some aloe vera handy!:)
Another beautiful shot, Dave!:thumbsup: (note to self, be cautious typing on tiney cell phone keyboards, the O is right next to the I!) :D
What a GREAT picture, Dennis. I'm jealous of the model/drone. Don't blow up any stars :D:thumbsup:
Thank you, Dave! I'm not so pretty good at steering it, so the only threat to stars, or planets is me crashing into them!;)
Caught a whole bunch of these little guys.
Very cool! Been a long time since I caught some trout!

Fox vs Bobcat this morning. :D:thumbsup:

I've been eyeing their new Wrangler. 22 for just plinking!:)
That horn is almost translucent.
Thank you kindly, David! I really was fortunate to get this one, and so easy to carry!:thumbsup:
Thanks, it's part of a set.

Morning Guardians, I'm afraid that my house guest is keeping me rather busy, but I just wanted to call in, and hope to be back here with you soon. Have a good Friday :)

Great multi-quote, Gary!:cool::thumbsup:

Yes, we use to call them Yankee screwdrivers. I had a full sized one as well in the early '80's, but it disappeared years ago. They also had some that had wooden handles.
Cool Star Trek paraphrase, Dennis! :D:cool::cool:
Grand photo, too! You should post it in the Hat and Knife thread!
Thank you very much!
I need to post over there, but it's difficult to keep up with just this thread, with my health issues, I kind of resigned to do one thread for the mist part.:(

Ah! Silly me. I hope to get a sample of your branded tequila in about 10 years!!:D:cool::thumbsup:

I'm still working my way through the thread (130 pages takes time!), and at this pace it's going to take me a few days so I figured I may as well post the pics from the camping trip and whatnot. Sorry for the delay, I had to go through the pics. Be warned... There are going to be several similar shots in these pictures. No one has ever accused me of having an imagination, lol.

As I said previously, my wife surprised me (and the dog) with a spur of the moment camping trip to Leavenworth/Lake Wenatchee, which is one of my favorite places!

This is the view from our camping spot, so that might give you and idea of why I like it so much. :D

There was quartz and iron all over the place at the camp site and it just happened to be panning season (only lasts about a month) so I decided to do a little prospecting for placer gold at a glacial stream that was entering the lake. Surprisingly enough I did find some flour gold, but it was beyond my skill to recover in any meaningful way. I did end up with a nice little vial of garnet from a nearby lake though.

Ronin was having better luck with his search for clay...

I went to an estate sale a few weeks ago and found the floor of the shop really interesting. I got to talking to the son of the owner who had passed and it turns out his dad was a woodworker and carpenter. Every time he received a 2x4 with the heart in it, he would cut it up into 2" sections. Eventually he had enough to make an entire floor and did so. Just thought it was cool and wanted to share.

I also ended up with a very large amount of various wood blocks/scales from said estate sale, lol (every exotic imaginable). Once I get a bit better at making scales for fixed blades, I think I'm going to give making covers for folders a go. It'd be pretty great to pick up a swayback lambsfoot and be able to put whatever scales I want on it. :D

Looks like a wonderful place to be! That wood flooring is nice and I can't wait to see what you do with all that material :)

Dave that background sure enhances that rosewood lamb. Did your wife use pastels?
Nice lookin' Snake
Thanks OG, much appreciated.
Thanks, Preston. That snakewood Lamb is lookin mighty fine.
BTW, I have never seen those pickups before, I have to go see what this Lace Tech is all about.
Thanks Kevin, I'm sure your 'google-foo' has given you more than you ever wanted to know about Lace Sensors and their connection to Fender. If not PM me.
Great picture...my '54 was like that in the mountains here, especially over 8,000 feet above sea level...I can just feel her gasping and shuttering going uphill;)

Dennis, that Marlin in 45-70 is a boomer, a friend had one and I got to shoot it. You'll love it. My dad was very strict and firm about firearms and firearm safety, no BB gun, I got to shoot a .22 when I was 12 and only after I proved to him that I knew and could follow all the safety guidelines. I could carry it empty while walking with him hunting a field for pheasant. I was fourteen before I could carry a loaded gun hunting. I'm just making up for lost time!:D
IMG_1279.JPG

On the top is a Western Field Model M150A, .410 ga, bolt action...kicks like a mule. Dad cut the stock shorter for us.
Next is my treasure. His side by side 20 ga Lefever Nitro'Special.
Bottom one is the .22 Stevens, no model number, no serial number. Not sure how old it is but it's old enough to be legal without a SN.
Good Late Afternoon Guardians.
