Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I hope all of our Guardians are doing okay today. I’ve had a busy day after being away for a couple of weeks. I dropped this Damascus Ironwood SFO in my pocket today. :)

Good Morning Guardians
I have a short work week, just Tues. thru Thurs. :D
It's one of the few perks of working in education. Not sure what I'll do with the free time yet.

Glad to hear you got a couple of three day weekends John!! Looks like you got the necessary tools at hand!!
It's 5:10 AM here and I going to the doctor over in Redding, CA again today. There won't be any suckers or Tootsie Rolls which is the big bummer. Instead they give out "Big Boy", "You're Brave", etc. stickers.

Everybody have a good day. This picture will have to hold all of you over until I get back.

Hope all good reports, Ed!! Great Worry Stone to have in pocket!;)

Thanks Jack. What a beauty there!

Thanks for the kind words, Mark. :)
The English oil didn't seem to darken it at all. It looks pretty much the same.

Great comparison shots in different light. I think that's why we all like Ironwood so much.:thumbsup:

..............
Skoll looks great John! Thanks for the compliment. Yes, I think the Ironwoods are well loved, aren't they?

Very nice Mark. It is interesting how the appearance of these knives change in different light - grains seem to shift and the color of the covers too.
Thanks, Ed. Yes sir, they do seem to change depending on what angle your looking from and the varying light.

Veel dank for the compliments on Valley Jack, Ron & Harvey & Dennis & Mark. :)

Muito obrigado, José & Mark. :) This weekend has not been nearly as productive. But I got at least 7 hours of sleep last night for the first time all week, and that's a blessing!:cool::thumbsup:

That's a great story about your raspberry patch, Mark!:thumbsup::cool:
(Splendid old shovel handles, too, as the backdrop for another superb shot of one of your ironwood lambsfoots!)

Thanks for the props on the Raspberry patch story and the nice words about the shovels and my Ironwood SFO's. Much appreciated. Interesting you should mention "correlation doesn't imply causation". I was thinking the same thing but didn't want to sound like I was being rude. My sons Varsity wrestling team had a much touted cumulative GPA of 3.7. There are many variables at work and it's hard to "pin it" down to any one reason.:D I don't disagree on the positive affects of music, though.

I learned from the best... you.:thumbsup:

I know that's true.
I also believe music, especially a good marching band program, contributes to higher GPAs.
It teaches hard work, discipline, structure, and higher expectations of yourself.
Working for group goals and carrying out your share of the responsibilities.
Yes, I have become quite passionate about it. ;)

I haven't posted a picture of my WCLF in a while. I had it out to admire for a while this morning...
Many good qualities are learned and practiced in extra curricular activities such as Marching band, John. Glad to see you so passionate about it! Beautiful WCLF!

Ramrodmb Ramrodmb - The many faces of your Ironwood Lamb photo essay was excellent, Mark.

Thanks Harvey, it actually turned into a very good day on my street. I consider myself lucky to live on a wide tree-lined avenue, where everyone knows each other. Every now and again, we close the street off to through traffic and have a party of some kind. I wasn't sure what was happening today because of the weather, but it actually turned out to be a fine day. There were seats out in the street, a big wood-stove, tables piled high with food and drink, and music provided by several DJs and some guys with drums. There was also a bicycle maintenance/repair shop going on. I spent the day chatting with neighbours old and new, chopping and sawing wood for the fire, whittling sticks for the kids to toast marshmallows, and eating some nice food. It was great to see all the kids playing in the street, and there was lots of dancing and fun. It took everyone a little by surprise :)

Sounds like a fun time, Jack! My neighborhood has a similar practice of getting together regularly for different things. Nice to know your neighbors and see the whole group flourish together.

Mark my friend, Thank you, and thanks folks for the comments- The Snakewood is coming around- I am terrible when coming to get nice Knives - especially knowing you wont be able to get another like it- so I tend to Queen them, but The Snakewood is coming up for a edge to be replaced very soon, and from Factory a Slightly Thick edge- but in saying that still a nice one, so as I work through times in the Sharpening process I am thinking that perhaps the edge may become slightly thinner - its a nice Knife - very very much like all the other A.Wrights where the joints are not super soft in their actions - this isnt a bad thing - I tend to take this that this is simply "Their" thing and I am extremely happy with that, I think that we have a Great Looking Knife, that in turn is a tough working Knife - the best of both worlds.

So all in all in a 100% way Mark I am loving these Knives my friend.

The wee " Garden" - if you can call it that yet, its a rough Terraced area edging up to the Lawn, The lower path is terribly cracked and the unsightly weeds are about to disappear, Hartshead cutting his way through old weed Matting..

I couldn't agree more about the knives, Duncan. Best of both worlds. I love the snappy pull and action, as well. That's a lovely flower bed. Can't wait to see it flourish, be sure to post more pics later. Also, glad to hear you are on the mend!:)

Thank you Dennis, glad to hear you're a little better my friend :) Sorry to hear about your multi-quote, hate it when that happens (Houdini used to stay in Sheffield just across the road from where I grew up, he performed there seven times in the early 20th century) :( Nice pic of your Hartshead Barlow

Thanks Jack. What a beauty there!

Thank you Jack! :) I enjoyed my visit with my daughter. It was great to also get a couple of good visits in with Stuart @Duckdog. Because I flew home I left all my knives that I took up with me in DC. I’ll pick them up over the Thanksgiving Holidays. I’m fortunate to have many more in my EDC rotation such as this Ironwood Bigun. It’s in my pocket today! :)

Good morning Guardians! :)

Good Morning Guardians
A little group shot for you all...

Thank you John, that's a fine threesome there :)

Happy Thursday, Guardians.

The discussion of scissors a few days ago led me to hunt these up. The small Red pair is marked "Clauss USA". My Grandfather cut a penny in half with these many years ago after seeing someone else do it. They still cut paper cleanly. They were issued to all Bell telephone employees and I never saw him without a pair of these on his belt. Night and day.
The yellow pair marked "Wiss" look a lot like Chin's Cambertree Cambertree posted a while back.
Of course, pictured with the Jack Black Ironwood SFO's.

Cool scissors and Lambsfoot pair, Mark.

I received a very thoughtful gift from Cambertree Cambertree this afternoon :)

Glad it arrived safe and sound, mate.:)

Texan author Robert Escobar also has an excellent Youtube channel, with some historical knife stuff, but unfortunately no Lambsfoot material.;)

Or the alternate title "How I got in Trouble with my Slingshot....Thanks A Lot, Cambertree!" :p:thumbsup: But it makes for a cool photo, Jack!
LOL!:D No slingshots in that book, Dennis my friend! I thought Jack Black might want to read a bit about Blackjacks!:p:D

Coincidentally, I also received a most generous package today - from our friend in Leeds.

Jack most kindly helped me complete my range of different size A. Wright Lambsfoots, with a very fine ebony big ‘un. :)

CgXK3wV.jpg

The card showing Pontefract Castle was very interesting, as I’d recently read the links Jack provided following his visit there. The mint cake was also fascinating, as I also recall an earlier discussion about it being commissioned for an Everest expedition.

The fridge magnet was also timely, as I saw a tip a while back on one thing a professional chef would recommend home cooks do, and that was make their own stocks.

So for the last few weeks I’ve been saving vegetable odd and ends in a freezer bag and making a soup stock every weekend. It is indeed a simple and excellent addition to home cooking, and a good opportunity to ply the Lambsfoot in the kitchen.

Ah but the ebony big ‘un is a very well made example - fits very well in the hand and it’s very thinly ground too - I miked it at between 0.013”-0.009” behind the edge. It should be an excellent slicer.

I did the usual A. Wright clean with some mineral oil soaked cotton wool on the end of a SAK toothpick in the pivot area, then flushed the knife out with oil a few times, to remove any ‘fash’ and brass shavings.

Then I thinned out and set a more acute edge on the Atoma 140 diamond plate, and progressed through the 400, 600 and 1200 plates, before finishing on the Venev 1200 and 2000, and the Spyderco Ultrafine ceramic benchstone.

I’m looking forward to putting this one to work in the kitchen and garden this spring and summer!

I'm enjoying it enormously Chin, a fascinating story, enthusiastically told :) I've enjoyed watching a number of those videos before, he seems like the sort of chap who would appreciate a good Lambsfoot :D

I'm glad that you received that package in good time my friend, and that those knives were made before Wright's went into their current shoddy patch o_O I'll have to send you a pack of pipe-cleaners sometime mate ;) That sounds like a very thorough sharpening regime, it'd be great to see your set-up sometime

Great pics, as always, Chin :)
