Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Trying a new bread formula. The bold bake is intentional, but the loaf is a bit overproofed.
KK0riB8.jpg

That looks tasty Dave :) I was lucky at the street-party I attended the other day, two girls at the bottom of the street work at the Leeds Bread Co-op bakery, and turned up with two sacks of bread to give away :)

Back from the oral surgeon late yesterday. No suckers, tootsie rolls, or anything like that. Just two new big holes in my gum. Everyone have a good day.

QPBNIjl.jpg

You've been in the thick of it recently Ed! Hope you're still allowed whisky

Envious of the trip to Denver. Seeing a show at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre is definitely on the bucket list. Condolences for your loss as well. Hardest part of having pets is filling the holes in life they leave behind. He was a handsome guy!

Thank you, my friend, I very much appreciate it. I fully recommend making the trip to Red Rocks, quite a spectacular place. An interesting thing to note about the Denver area, at least in my opinion, I wasn't all that impressed with the food. Great beer but the food didn't impress me much, though I will say that I had the best wings I've ever had at a brew pub down there and I got to try their green chili with pork, which I guess is a regional thing.

All that said, I certainly wasn't over there long enough to experience everything that the Denver area has to offer and I may very well have simply gone to all the wrong places.

Fantastic pairing, Dylan!!:)

Thank you, Dennis! I hope all is well with you, my friend, or at the very least, improving.

Nice to see your Hartshead Barlow Dylan, hope you're doing OK buddy

Thank you, Jack. I am doing well, all things considering. I had myself a birthday a few days ago and I was plied with all sorts of fine whisky, no complaints in that regard.

I finally had time this morning to finish up Skoll.
I hit it with a few finer grades of sandpaper, finishing with 320 grit.
I then rubbed it down with some oil. I think it turned out fairly well and I like the slimmer feel.

And what other oil would I use on a fine English knife? ;)

Very nicely done on Sköll there, John! I think it looks quite lovely. I've been considering rounding the edges on a number of my wood clad Lambsfoot knives. My very first Lambsfoot, Rosie, came with nicely rounded covers and it has always felt quite nice in the hand. After that, the wood covers on the others have all came with rather square edges. I am not sure if the pic below illustrates the difference at all but Rosie sits in the middle.

Nothing wrong with how they are finished currently but I do think the rounding of the edges gives it a smoother appearance and it might just feel nicer in the hand as well.

The Extraordinary Adventures of Linus the Lambsfoot

Here's Linus:
ta6tA0n.jpg

He's been with me about a week, and I have been taking him to work. I had to be in the office most of the week, but we did get out some at lunch time.

...snip...

I sat with my back to the wall, in case someone wanted to bushwhack me. I ordered a New Yorker:
d8emYkn.jpg

There's Linus. (Is it okay to eat a sandwich called the "New Yorker" with a Boston lager?)

Anyway, we've had a good week. And the Astros just won game 3, so we're happy.

This weekend, and next, I will be taking photos of my hometown: Corpus Christi; then I will send Linus on his way to Tennessee.

Very happy to see you and Linus hitting it off well, Vince. I've tried to keep my post in my sig line updated with your posts, if you feel I missed any, I will be happy to edit them in. It is quite possible that when all is said and done, I may have to create a separate thread and copy over everyone's links/posts. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Otherwise, I am enjoying your posts and am looking forward to more.

Sincere condolences for losing Saxon so suddenly and while he was so young, Dylan.
It was such a joy to see your photos of him in various settings as he grew up!:thumbsup::cool:

Thank you so much, GT. Saxon was nothing but undiluted joy, he brought so much happiness and those memories are simply beautiful to think back on. He is sorely missed for sure.

Today, I put a horn clad slicer in my pocket. This knife has the thinnest blade out of all of my Lambsfoot knives yet it sports the stoutest pull out of my entire collection. I am thankful to have rather robust nails but should this ever close on a finger, I think it would take it clean off .

What a great shot! We have herons on our canals but their skittish creatures who don't seem to of grown used to humans.

I received a very thoughtful gift from @Cambertree this afternoon :)

9hNP5ic.jpg

What a great gift. I wonder if it mentions the "Swingle"?

HP Sauce is good on whatever that was. It was going to be a tofu stir-fry, but I had enough leftover peas and corn that I didn't need the tofu for protein.
VTEP6md.jpg

And according to HP's mother company Heinz, you don't have to refrigerate after opening.

In the past I've 'saved' many a meal with a judicious application of HP. :)

Cool scissors and Lambsfoot pair, Mark.

Glad it arrived safe and sound, mate.:)

Texan author Robert Escobar also has an excellent Youtube channel, with some historical knife stuff, but unfortunately no Lambsfoot material.;)

LOL!:D No slingshots in that book, Dennis my friend! I thought Jack Black might want to read a bit about Blackjacks!:p:D

Coincidentally, I also received a most generous package today - from our friend in Leeds.

Jack most kindly helped me complete my range of different size A. Wright Lambsfoots, with a very fine ebony big ‘un. :)

CgXK3wV.jpg

The card showing Pontefract Castle was very interesting, as I’d recently read the links Jack provided following his visit there. The mint cake was also fascinating, as I also recall an earlier discussion about it being commissioned for an Everest expedition.

The fridge magnet was also timely, as I saw a tip a while back on one thing a professional chef would recommend home cooks do, and that was make their own stocks.

So for the last few weeks I’ve been saving vegetable odd and ends in a freezer bag and making a soup stock every weekend. It is indeed a simple and excellent addition to home cooking, and a good opportunity to ply the Lambsfoot in the kitchen.

Ah but the ebony big ‘un is a very well made example - fits very well in the hand and it’s very thinly ground too - I miked it at between 0.013”-0.009” behind the edge. It should be an excellent slicer.

I did the usual A. Wright clean with some mineral oil soaked cotton wool on the end of a SAK toothpick in the pivot area, then flushed the knife out with oil a few times, to remove any ‘fash’ and brass shavings.

Then I thinned out and set a more acute edge on the Atoma 140 diamond plate, and progressed through the 400, 600 and 1200 plates, before finishing on the Venev 1200 and 2000, and the Spyderco Ultrafine ceramic benchstone.

I’m looking forward to putting this one to work in the kitchen and garden this spring and summer!

Thanks very much, Jack, that’s most generous of you my friend.:)

And a pic with my standard size ebonies and my small ox horn Lambsfoot:

(I also received another cool and interesting knife in the package which I’ll have to discuss elsewhere.;))

What fantastic looking ebony; I hope it's a s dark as your photo makes it look.
Interesting info about the stock as well. It's certainly soup weather here now; so I'm going to have to look into that.

Everyone should have a hole in their gums. :D I have two. Both caused by pork scratchings...

Morning Guardians, we've gone a whole 48 hours without rain here, and I'm hoping we can get through today that way too ;)

Indeed. Someone, somewhere has turned the tap off for now. This morning it was, for once, not raining...

And on my stroll this morning.

Exactly. My Rosewood has me so spoiled with it's slim and smooth handles, I just had to try and match it with the Ironwood. Good luck and take it slow if you decide to try it.:thumbsup:

Did you give a description of the hay mower to the police? These thugs need to be stopped! :D

Thanks, Dylan. Linus is a great companion. There will be a few more short posts, then a long one this weekend. I'll send Linus on his way to @Half/Stop on Monday.

A belated Happy Birthday Dylan, and I hope things get easier for you my friend

I've really never thought about the wooden covers in this way, I'm going to have to get mine out for a photo shoot, though I have to say I'm perfectly happy with them :)

Those old fellers must have had strong fingers I guess! :D Beautiful Lambsfoot :)

I think they're a lot bolder than they used to be, this feller has been parking up right in the centre of Holmfirth the past few years (between the main road and the market)

It does! :D And the Sweet William :D

I just have holes in my teeth! :D

Great pics David, great to have a day without rain :)

I've noticed lately that a lot of you guys and gals are posting pictures of your Standard sized Lambfoot knives. They certainly are a handy size (pun intended). Here are the ones I currently have.

'Special Release' Imperial IPA from the Mobberley Brewhouse in Cheshire. Overpriced and underwhelming :(

Good evening Guardians.

I've been an admirer of the HHB's since my return from my forum break. While I had missed them they were still really cool to see, and read about how much people enjoyed having them. A couple of weeks ago, while chatting with another Guardian, they let me know they had one if I wanted it. I was mildly flabbergasted as I didn't really think I'd have the opportunity to own one, and jumped at the chance.

Today the L'il Lambsfoot was in pocket, but when checking the mailbox after work, I discovered a very chilly package waiting for me.

KBfdgh1.jpg

Very pleasantly surprised, and can see why these are liked so much. This is a special knife! The L'il one is going to be leaving the pocket for a bit to make room for this one, and I'm very much looking forward to getting to know each other :)

I also prefer the thinner, smoother covers on the rosewood (my favorite Lambsfoot) let us know how the sanding/ rounding goes so i can give it a shot!!

@mitch4ging - Thank you Dennis. Glad to hear things are going better, even if slowly. Wishing you continued improvement, my friend. Your HH Barlow makes for beautiful music.

@Ramrodmb - Much thanks, Mark. A handsome image of your Ironwood Lamb.

Jack Black Jack Black - Thank you kindly, Jack. Very interesting image of HH Barlow, atop that seemingly Royal emblem. A very nice image of your feathered friend.

@Cambertree - That Ebony big ún is exceptional.

Good Evening Guardians.

Updated flock photo. Could almost carry a different one each day of the week if that L'il rosewood wasn't such a pocket hog :D

How are the Guardians?

Well Sue and I went out for Dinner at a wee Cafe / Restaurant, We have a thing where Wednesday Nights is my official cooking night, and it's kinda worked out that I take her out for Dinner every Wednesday lol.

I do cook for her on other nights, but lately not up to too much cooking - so my Snakewood Pushed Hartshead out the way tonight.....

D4RMduN.jpg

:) My cooking nights are every Monday & Thursday + all the bbq. Unfortunately not many decent options for nights out that don't require a commute. No way out for me :(

My wife is such a better cook than I will ever be. Though I've nailed it for cooking fish
and pizza. She will tell you that my fish dishes are as good as any restaurant (and we
live in a coastal town)
. Not all an embarrassment.

Looks delicious Duncan
