Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I see some A.Wright & Son and Joseph Rodgers Lamb Foot knives for sale online, how do those compare to the Waynorth?

As per my previous post, I think you really need to buy these knives in person, or be prepared for disappointment. Many of us have very acceptable knives from Wright's standard range (certainly not approaching the quality of the Waynorth knives though), but many were purchased by me directly from the factory, something I'm no longer prepared to do, partly as a result of deteriorating quality. The firm seem happiest producing inexpensive knives of mediocre quality, but have certainly been capable of producing knives of a much higher standard, a bracket I hope my SFOs fit into. No small amount of personal effort went into that though. Recent production knives bearing the Joseph Rodgers and George Wostenholm IXL marks are of a similar quality to Wright's, but a little more expensive, and only come with stainless steel blades.

Thanks, Jack. You too!

Toted this on a walk with my Chihuahua:

Happy New Year, Guardians!

Nice pics Vince, Happy New Year my friend

Looks like you were busy snapping pics of your libations. ;)
Hope you have a fantastic New Year's Eve, and watch out for aliens.

Yeah, I managed to get through a couple more, before moving onto rum. I wish I'd had more dark beers and stouts (particularly imperial stouts), as that's really what I fancied :) Thanks John, no little green men were spotted! :D Happy New Year pal :)

I rewarded myself with a meatball sub.
Luckily the guy that made it forgot to cut it in half. :D

Bonus! :D

Great shots of your walk Jack; but it looks like it was colder right side o' Pennines. No frost for us this morning.
That Bad Kitty porter is delicious isn't it. Hope you enjoyed it.

Happy New Year Guardians.
I'll probably be in bed shortly. :D

Thanks David, yes, the frost didn't really shift. It was a nice day though :) Bad Kitty was one of the first beers Brass Castle did, and I am most definitely a fan my friend. Look out for the Very Bad Kitty ;) A quality ale there, I used to see it on draught regularly, but it's been a while

Cindy and I went to town today and ate lunch at our local cafe. I had Liver and Onions and she had a Patty Melt. Great chow and got to express New Years greetings to many of our locals. I had this SFO Hartshead Barlow with me.

Here are Coco (half German Shepard) and Utah (Pie Bold Dachshund) ready for the New Year. They are house dogs but we'll block the doggy door at Midnight to make sure they stay indoors so the shooting and fireworks don't spook them.

Happy New Years to everyone Guardian or not.

Sounds like a great day Ed :) Nice pics, I like the tin under your Hartshead Barlow :) Wishing you a very Happy New Year my friend

Amazing pics of Yorkshire forests Jack !
I am not sure if Robin Hood would have lived in any of those but my imagination can sure see him coming out of one of those with his band of merry men.

Incidentally, just a couple of days ago on our very long drive home from visiting family over Christmas we were listening to the Robin Hood audio book in the car.

My brain which has been wired in Spanish a long time ago :D was having a bit of a hard time understanding the old English coupled with the British accent accent of the narrator.

At one point I asked my kids in the back : " Hey guys, do you understand everything he is saying ? "
In loud unison ( and a bit condescending like only teenagers can be) my kids responded
" OF COURSE WE UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING !!! "

I found out they had read the book several times as well as different versions of it with different endings etc
:)

Well said John
I would have written it just like that if my English skills would have allowed me :)

Thank you Dan :) Robin Hood may have been located a little closer to Sheffield, but the whole of the North of England was forest back in those days, and Bad Prince John was regularly up here hunting, so it's quite possible ;) Cool story Dan, a few of us struggled with Russell Crow's accent in the horrendous film version of Robin Hood he starred in  Errol Flynn still owns the role! :D

Happy New Year Guardians
My kids music teacher was handing out calendars to support charities. They were many different designs. I picked this one naturally :)

And a good cause to boot.:thumbsup:

Cheers David, and a very Happy New Year to you :)

What makes you say that? :D

:D

Happy New Year to everyone, it is already the 1st of Jan over here, time is 10.35 am. So i thought i should bounce the ball for 2020 with my lambfoot of 2019, thanks to 2 people for allowing me to get one of these special knives. Also added is my favorite fruit, Cherries are in full season over here. Hope you all have a safe and cheerful evening.:p

Happy New Year Leon, hope you're having a good day :) Your image isn't showing for me I'm afraid :(

View attachment 1257399 View attachment 1257398 Decided that it was time to spruce up my ebony A. Wright for the new year: there was a chip torn out when the rear pin was drilled and the sides of the handles were somewhat rippled from over buffing when it was made. So, I reground the sides of the handle on the belt sander and re-buffed the bolsters etc. and rubbed in a little Swedish boiled linseed oil to keep the ebony from drying out. While I was at it I Simichomed some of the patina from the blade; my knives really have to earn their patina!
Yeah, as mentioned above, Wrights are not Waynorths and the fit and finish are not perfect, but now there's nothing about this knife I can't live with and it's just that much more mine! A very sturdy practical knife that's about perfect for everyday use. (Before and after pics!)
Ben

Nice work Ben :) Happy New Year

Great post, Jack! We never took a double-decker bus anywhere when we visited England, but I’d imagine the top deck is the way to go for a nice view. We did take a coach from Bath to Heathrow, but I wouldn’t say that’s a particularly scenic route (unless you consider the M4 or Slough scenic.) :D

My brother and sister-in-law brought some Christmas crackers when they came to visit. Our fortune telling fish said we were all passionate.

Looks good, Jack! We made some British pigs-in-blankets for Christmas. (The American version consists of small sausages wrapped in pastry, which are good, but I think I prefer the British version wrapped in bacon.) :D

I may have asked you this before, Jack, but have you watched Detectorists? (I remember discussing films and TV series with you at one of the pubs we visited in Sheffield — might've been The Bath Hotel — but I can't remember if that one came up.) If not, you should check it out. It's a good show, and features some fantastic shots of the English countryside. (The show is set in Essex, but I believe it was filmed mostly in Suffolk.)

Here’s some Lambsfoot content, since this is the Lambsfoot thread. ;)

Thanks Barrett :) That's a shame, those definitely wouldn't be the most scenic views! :D

I'm glad you got a fortune-telling fish! :D I haven't had one for a while, but they've been putting them in Christmas Crackers since my mother was a girl, maybe longer. Apparently they put them in boxes of popcorn in the US at one time too

I hope you enjoyed your pigs in blankets buddy :) I didn't actually have any this year, first time in ages

I really enjoyed watching The Detectorists Barrett, it's a very heart-warming comedy, and the countryside is really beautiful :)

Thank you for the medley of fantastic pics :) I hope that you and your family have a very happy 2020 my friend :)

Jack Black Jack Black - What a fine collection of images, Jack.

Good Evening Guardians. Happy New Year to all. Best wishes for 2020.

Linus just tore into this.

Thanks a lot Harvey, lucky old Linus (again! :D He has some nice patina Harvey, a very handsome Lambsfoot :) Happy New Year pal :)

That looks great. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Happy New Year to all you Guardians. Don't forget to eat some black eyed peas tomorrow!
bceQ0My.jpg

I don't know if it's a Southern tradition or just a Texas thing, but you have to have black eyed peas for luck, and cabbage for prosperity on new year's day.

Cool pic Rachel, Happy New Year :)

Hey, I eat tamales year round! And had chicken fried steak yesterday. (My son requested it for his birthday; he's about to eat the last of it in a few minutes--his sister is making him some gravy.)

A belated Happy Birthday to your son Vince, sounds like he knows how to celebrate

Happy New Year! Here from California. Hoping for an amazing 2020! Can't wait to see what knives are on the works!

Happy New Year Taylor :)

chicken fried steak should hit the spot.

had chicken fried steak yesterday.

A select group of us had chicken fried steak yesterday it seems. Count me among them, it must be the Year of the Chicken fried steak. :D

Fantastic picture, Jack. Happy New Year.:thumbsup:

You should have a lot of room in the fridge now. ;)

Cool pic Rachel, Happy New Year :)
Thanks, Jack. Happy New Year to you! That pic was from last year, of course. The black eyed peas must be eaten on January 1, so we're going out for lunch today.

That settles it. CFS for lunch today; diet starts January 2. ;):D

Amen! The only one I like. Sean Connery, even though British, was abysmal in the role.
Bet John Wayne would have been a good one!

Chicken fried steak always seem to be big at this time of year :D I am great to r8shell r8shell for explaining what it is to me! :D

Thanks a lot John :)

Surprisingly not, it's like the TARDIS in reverse! o_O I've been meaning to buy a new fridge for ages, so I'm definitely getting a bigger one! :D

Happy New Year Guardians

Cool pic to start the year John :)

Yes indeed Rachel :) Thank you, enjoy your CFS :) I went out for lunch too, but I just had a burger (kind of a craving) ;)

Which year? ;):D

This time last year, I could eat as one of my Christmas guests had given me a virus. I managed to lose 20 pounds! Glad not to be ill this year though :D

Thank you Jack :) , same to you my friend !

Do you celebrate La Fiesta de Los Tres Reyes Magos on the 6th Dan?

Amen! The only one I like. Sean Connery, even though British, was abysmal in the role.
Bet John Wayne would have been a good one!

I never actually saw that version Vince, but I bet Connery played it with a Scottish accent! :D

Aren't tamales for Christmas?
I'm thinking a chicken fried steak should hit the spot. ;)

Chicken fried steak would be a wonderful New Year’s Day meal, but the one time I tried ordering it here in MN, they served it with shredded cheese on top of the gravy! o_O

Wow, incredible grain and swirls in that ironwood Barret !
Very nice:thumbsup:

Thanks, I think I got a good one!

Blasphemy! The only thing that should be added atop gravy (and it must be white gravy) is Tabasco Sauce!

I will admit there was an amazing sandwich we used to get at a bar called "The Reality" Chicken Fried Steak burger with cheese and jalapenos. Mustard, lettuce, etc like a burger.

I must be getting hungry, with all this food talk.

Ahhhhh - memories of 2019. One of my fondest was running across a copy of "Ranger Rick" magazine at my Dentist's office while carrying one of my favorite Lambfoot knives.

Wonderful magazine and a really informative article about "Wombat Poop"

QKT0dBC.jpg
.

Actually, the Wombat Poop reminds me of a "Lump of Coal" associated with the New Years in Scotland where I was stationed for a couple of years.

Hope everyone is having a great 1st day of the New Year.
