Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I never drank much hot tea before our first trip to visit my brother and his family in England, but now I enjoy it about as frequently as I do coffee (which, to be fair, isn’t that often, maybe a couple times a week). I’ve always liked my coffee black (although I also enjoy a good cappuccino now and then), but my brother taught me about “builder’s tea” like David mentioned, and I’ve found that’s the way I like it: brewed strong, a little milk, one sugar.

Of course, growing up in Arkansas, the tea was always iced and sweet. I still like it that way, although these days I try to cut down on the sugar when I make sweet tea at home (and order it half-sweet/half-unsweet at a restaurant).

All the chili-talk in this thread lately made this week’s dinner choice an easy one. :D We didn’t make cornbread this time around, so I had it over Fritos and rice with some shredded cheese on top.

Shout out Eskimo Joes. I grew up in Oklahoma, made a few trips to Stillwater, though I'm a Sooner till I die...

I was about to say, I hope you got something better than a Danielle Steel novel in exchange for your Hartshead Barlow! :D

That is a cool looking little library. There’s one of those near us that I’ve always noticed when I drive by, but in winter it nearly gets buried by all the snow from the plows!

Hey Jack, I think I found a sandwich shop your mate might like! :D

3N9HLuq.gif

LOL! :D I did think about trying to climbing inside to add to the claustrophic nature of Das Boot, but I was pretty sure I wouldn't fit

That's hilarious Barrett :D I'll have to send it to my mate :D

Have they forgotten The Alamo?! ;)
The Alamo battle was against an oppressive Mexican government. Sam Houston defeated the Mexican army under Santa Ana a few weeks after the Alamo fell. He became our President, and later our Governor after Texas joined the United States in 1845. Houston had also been Governor of Tennessee. He was a good American. (Let's not talk about the Civil War!). I am proud to be a Texan, and proud to be American.

Hey, don't let facts get in the way of a good battle-cry Vince! :D

If you’re ever in LA...

I’m familiar with Pink’s, having gone there a few times during my school years. Now I’m not a hot dog connoisseur, but Pink’s is absolutely, positively nothing special. If trimmings are your thing I guess they’re ok, but the dogs themselves are pretty average.

Fabulous!

Thanks Wild Ben:thumbsup:

I like everything about that.:thumbsup:

Thanks, Jack! I believe we'd be on your side in any Scone Wars, as I've never heard them pronounced any other way. But what about Crepes? :D
(/kreɪp/ (listen)[1] or /krɛp/, French: [kʁɛp] (listen), Quebec French: [kʁaɪ̯p] (listen))

Thanks Rachel

Looking forward to seeing more of that one Rob

From the 1902 Thomas Turner catalogue:

You're very lucky not to have had to contend with that sensory assault Rachel! ;) As for crepes, we call them pancakes! :D But pronunciation of the word is very close to in the US, in Yorkshire at least (cool app BTW) :) My friend on the tool-stall and his old Teddy Boy mates are quite fond of their crepe-soled shoes :D

I've had it over a baked potato at least once :D

Nice to see the Guardians have been busy :)

Nice healthy snack Willie, I might join you :)

Thanks Jack:thumbsup: Appreciate you posting the old catalog picture

Cheers for that. I didn't know 'full-back' was the correct term.

Yep I'll be boycotting them myself from now on. I'm not a big crisp eater but always enjoyed the Hendersons.

Crikey! I'd pee for a week! :eek::D

Ahh that's interesting. I was reading something last year about how the domestic tap water in Russia or certainly Moscow is unsafe to drink. But that the Russians don't care because they don't drink water at home, they all just drink these fruit teas.

Aye iced tea. That's certainly something that's never really taken off in the UK, even during our brief summers.

That looks like a great old knife and in excellent condition. Thanks for showing.

And is Texas still the only state that can legally secede from the Union? I remember learning about that years ago.

The ironwood yesterday but what I've got with me today.

Thanks David

Very nice, beautiful Horn Lamb Foot.
Thank you very much, Harvey!
Sorry to hear about your back Dennis, I hope it's feeling better today :) I've been meaning to get an new refrigerator for ages now, darn things are junk these days  Nice pic of your horn Big 'Un
Thank you kindly, Jack!
My back is feeling better today!
You are correct, I think all household appliances have a built in self destructive system, to go off right after warranty is up!
I'm all for beans in chilli Willie :D

(Runs and hides behind the sofa! :p )

Edit - Just so you know Willie, this subject gets debated in the Guardians thread at least once a year! :D

Not even a weinie whistle...

Yes, with and without. I prefer without because I consider beans a filler. No beans = more meat!
I am also in the no bean camp! Grew up eating pinto beans...lots of pinto beans and corn bread. I'm happy without them now!:thumbsup:
Hot dog debate...
The best hot dog is the one cooked on a stick over a camp fire.
End of debate! :D

Oh, and chili should have beans.
Beans are not a filler, they are an enhancement. ;)
Best way for hot dogs, or eggs, bacon and potatoes in a cast iron skillet!:D:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Well folks, I've been absent for a while because I sent RALF to get a make-over. My dry skin along with the smooth ebony was causing me some fumbles and near misses cutting myself, so I sent him off to get stippled. I couldn't find anyone to checker the wood, and the stippling is not as positive as checkering or jigging, but it helps.

6vmocLN.jpg
But it does look nice! Couldn't find a gun shop that could checker it? I have been tempted to get the tools for checkering, may have to try to follow up with that!
I really enjoy the tactile feel of a nice knife and love to look at the lines and manufacture of said knife but the real treasure isn't in the having...rather, it's the people relationships that are forged in this hobby of ours, shared knowledge, and experiences that we all enjoy. I suppose that my recent health issues (I'm fine now) have caused me to be a little reflective today and as I was grabbing my HHB I got to thinking...just want to say thanks to everyone who I have interacted with on this Sub-Forum and hope that I will soon have reason to communicate with those whom I haven't yet had the chance to do so yet.

Well said, Bill!:)
It's lucky your fridges just pack in. Here in the UK they tend to burst into flames.

I hope your back heals up.
Man, the great refrigerator fires of 2020? Somebody let QC slip?
Thanks, David!
Imgur has completely stopped working for me at the mo' so no pics of my lambsfoot adventures today.

Today's mini-adventure. Darwen Moor, Lancashire.

Thank you again Dennis mitch4ging mitch4ging for the 3rd AD Spearhead Coin(“Stay Spearhead”). Along for the ride is my Brookes & Crookes Lamb Foot.

Looks great together, Harvey!! Can't wait to see the diorama!:thumbsup:
Well, for a late dessert I am enjoying a blueberry scone (pronounced like Jack says it), made by my daughter. She has never made scones before, but I must say it is excellent! And some strong English Breakfast tea. Two tea bags. No sissy milk and sugar here!

Oh, man! You're a lucky man, Vince! Tell her great job, and I'll take 2 dozen, to share with all the Guardians!:thumbsup:
More great photos, Dan!!;)

Speaking of 3rd AD, Elvis was in the 3rd as well. In his movie "GI Blues", there is a part where he gets to go to Frankfurt. If you see the big black horse statue, that's where I was at.
Shout out Eskimo Joes. I grew up in Oklahoma, made a few trips to Stillwater, though I'm a Sooner till I die...
:D:thumbsup:
Had two nephews graduate from OSU!:thumbsup:

I hadn't realised that image was actually from Amazon, so I'm now getting bombarded with ads for that type of shoe! Thank you Harvey, that's a fabulous pic of your Milner, and that cherry cheescake looks gorgeous  I have a Milner, but it's not a good one

No steaks at the meat packer's, so we bought a roast and cut our own...

Hope you enjoyed them Willie

Looks like your WCLF has been getting plenty of use Christian

Thanks Jack:thumbsup: Appreciate you posting the old catalog picture

A pleasure Rob

You are correct, I think all household appliances have a built in self destructive system, to go off right after warranty is up!

I'm glad to hear it Dennis :) Yes, I think they deliberately turn out junk  Probably my worst experiences in this field in recent years has been with DAB radios o_O A radio used to last more or less indefinitely, but these darn things cost 10 or 20 times the price, and I've had 3 in the past 10 years! The first I bought was by PURE, cost well over £100, and came with all sorts of environmentally-friendly credentials, just after the warranty ran out it stopped working. I contacted them to get it repaired, and they told me it "wasn't economically viable" to do repairs, and offered to sell me another at a reduced rate! o_O An electrician pal fixed it for me, said it was a minor part, which was faulty (but getting hold of the parts is really hard). About a year later, the input jack for the electrical lead had worn, so it stopped working again. I couldn't get a replacement part, so had to throw it out in the end

I am also in the no bean camp! Grew up eating pinto beans...lots of pinto beans and corn bread. I'm happy without them now!:thumbsup:

I guess we don't all look back on the food we had as kids with affection! I can relate to that! :D

But it does look nice! Couldn't find a gun shop that could checker it? I have been tempted to get the tools for checkering, may have to try to follow up with that!

I imagine there'd be a good demand for your work Dennis

I'll have to try and find that :) I haven't seen G.I. Blues in years. My sister and her friends used to watch all the Elvis films in the school holidays, but I had to go out to avoid the swooning! Great bunch of pics Dennis, hope you're having a good week my friend :)

Good morning Guardians, it looks like the sun is shining here for once! :D Hope everyone is doing OK. Here's another of my cannon pics from the Royal Armouries the other day, they have a whole bunch of old cannon just sitting around outside
