Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Cross country skiing with my oldest daughter a few days ago.
The tip of my lambsfoot point to the area where the pics were taken on the "green" trail.
It's a low, marshy area where the landscape changes drastically as you descend into it, things look rather dead .
XC skiing is over rolling terrain is a really good workout lol ... burned 800 calories ?
Great  ! Bring the hot chocolate and sweets with no guilt :D

I've been doing my walks at our local nature center using trekking poles. It used to be called Nordic walking or ski walking. Adds a little upper body and arm content to the walk. XC skiing used to be big around here, but I never ponied up to buy the gear.

@mitch4ging - Thank you, kindly Dennis. It will take a bit before I lens the Diorama, but I hope you like it, my friend. Congratulations on your two nephews graduating. Fabulous assortment of Lamb Foot Knives. Good looking Ironwood Lamb.

Jack Black Jack Black - I still like your Milner, and the shoes, too, Add cannons and Hartshead to the list. Gorgeous Statue. Have fun at the stalls, if you’re heading out there tomorrow.

donn donn - Thank you David. Great Heavy Metal - Hartshead image.

Good Evening Guardians.

Rachel covered it. Primary election, the Republican party and the Democratic party choose their candidates for the Presidential election.

Thanks John. In the UK it's only card carrying members of a political party who get to vote on who the leader of a party will be, the rest of the population doesn't get a say. We then vote in local elections and then the general election which is now meant to be every five years. Our Prime Minster can then remain in power for as long as their party remains in majority at each general election.

Fantastic photo David :)

That's cool! If I turn the wheels and pull the lever, will it make a Hartshead for me too? ;):D:thumbsup:
[/QUOTE]

Thanks chaps.
If only I'd get a HHB. But I reckon you could get a big BOOM!

Yes indeed, I once bought a 'tub' of their Hendersons-flavour crisps, cost me an arm and a leg! The container was half-empty, and the crisps were stale o_O

Yuk! Time to start buying...Lancashire Crisps instead...
https://www.fiddlerslancashirecrisps.co.uk/

I just turned left instead of right.

Story of my life....:rolleyes::D

Disgraceful isn't it? Both me and screened porch screened porch used to live close to Grenfell :(
Aye. There's a lot of people taking their eye off the ball at present in regards to lots of things.

It most certainly is.....That can of wax just might be older than me.

I might be a week late on this one but I don't care I'm posting it anyway! :p:D
49617839832_b4269be85e_h.jpg

Doesn't matter if you were two weeks late that; that's a great shot. HHB is looking mighty shiney, and that's a nice watch.

Your welcome.

Thanks! That looks like one serious conflab' those folks are having there.:)

Good morning Guardians. I'm about to step out the door to work so no knife for me today. So here's a pic of yesterdays pancake I had for lunch.

...
Thank you very much, Gary!
We always had horses growing up, so we built and repaired a lot of fence as well, but probably not as much as a farm!:thumbsup: It's work, but I never minded, it was therapeutic in a way...till you hit ROCK!:D

Thanks again, Gary!!

Such a great looking Lambsfoot!!:)
...
...
5K Qs 5K Qs Thank you GT. The Man Jack SFO. Can’t beat it.
Thanks for the compliments on my lambsfoot, Dennis & Harvey. :)
Dennis, your big horn with the black blade on the black rock is a cool shot!:thumbsup::cool:
Where I grew up, I'd occasionally hit A rock while digging post holes, but I suspect you're talking about hitting a LAYER of rock in your neck of the woods!:(

...
Do you have any photos of your Man Jack, Gary??:D:thumbsup: I can look at it all day!
...
Thanks, Dennis. :) This is a little late, but how could I deny your request? (Of course, it won't be a NEW pic of Man Jack; recycled photos is my signature style.)
MJ.pile.V.wisteria.jpg

Me too, they are the perfect pocket size.:thumbsup:
...
John, I certainly appreciate the "regular size" lambsfoot models, but I'm not convinced that's my favorite size. I'm VERY fond of the slightly smaller lambsfoot when clad in stag like Jack's Ashley's Choice SFO!:cool::thumbsup: Here is some evidence from Duncan & Joshua & @Travman to support my claim: feast your eyes on these beauties!! :):cool:
...
Loving- absolutely loving my AC gifted to me by Jack in York! Dinner last week with Sue

Good day Guardians! I’ve been lurking despite not toting. Today I have my AC and am enjoying the fine weather.

I'm glad the theme caught on, it gave a chance to see some beautiful pocket watches like yours.:thumbsup:

My Fitbit kept telling me I needed to run, so I ran it over with my truck. ;)
Thanks, John. :)
Sorry to hear about the demise of your Fitbit.:D

This is Man Food... Canned chili and sliced hotdogs. ;)
Decided to drink a beer for Jack to bring balance back to the Force.
...
Great knife, appealing beer, and the chili and dogs look tasty!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
But I'd certainly add some broccoli, corn, and/or peas (or at least some shredded lettuce) to get my essential-to-manhood vegetables/fiber! ;)

It may have gotten down to 32 degrees for a few minutes one morning, but it was 75 today, and the peas are fine. The green beans haven't sprouted yet, though. I went ahead and planted some more today. :)

A similar plant, I think.
Thanks for the horticultural report, Rachel. :)

...
That's quite some history GT, nice photo too :)

Hope that wind drops soon Gary  I'm reminded that I bought an anemometer last year, and I think I have only used it once

I was always into trouble as a kid, but I think those girls had me beat!

Good to see Man Jack again before he comes to the end of his current pocket reign :D ;)

My neighbours have a full-grown Yucca. Unusual to see something like that in Yorkshire, but then I have another neighbour who has fig trees

Yeah, we seem to get a lot of very localised weather here Gary. I only live about a mile and a half away from the city centre, whereas the other guy lives about 3 miles out on the other side, I guess it's a bit higher there too
Jack, I appreciate your responding to all my random ruminations, even when I don't post for a week. :)

Yep - rehab for the leg and about 6-months for a steak burger.
Thanks, for the update, ED. :) Praying that you can gradually add to your motion and your menu as your recovery continues!:cool:

I gave Jake the day off and made the Senator work, for a change.
...
Creative pic of your horn senator, FBC!:cool::cool:

I tried taking a few pictures this morning but the focusing and editing got to be a bit much for my frame of mind so, pictures from the past will have to do.
...
Great pic of your horn big'un, ED!:cool::thumbsup:
Almost all I post are recycled photos, and they haven't ridden me off The Porch on a rail yet!

Haven't tried those other brands. Probably not available here. But Nathan's beats Oscar Meyer and Armour by a LONG shot. Hebrew National is pretty good too, but they come in packages of seven. Try finding hot dog buns in packages of seven. Oh, Nolan Ryan all beef hot dogs are great too.
At the risk of being ridiculed, I'll claim that my current favorite hot dog brand is Johnsonville Turkey Dogs!:thumbsup::cool:

...
One of my favorites is Superdawg. I will make a sacrifice:D and go there soon.
View attachment 1294384
...
Harvey, do you have to dress that way to go to Superdawg?? :p
Fantastic shot of your rosewood HHB!:thumbsup::cool:

Hot dog debate...
The best hot dog is the one cooked on a stick over a camp fire.
End of debate! :D

Oh, and chili should have beans.
Beans are not a filler, they are an enhancement. ;)
John, I think most of us would agree that a camp-fire-cooked hot dog tastes best, but I think there could still be quite a debate over "roasting technique". I'm fond of slow-cooking to promote maximal swelling with slight blistering, my daughter roasts hers at warp speed and I'll bet the center is still cold, while my wife's ideal roasted wiener is a long, slender charcoal briquette!
I agree with your beans in chili statement, but I'd side with a no-beans proponent, too. I'll confess that my favorite bowl of chill is ANY one that's currently in front of me!

I'm carrying my Union Jack this week. Here's a photo of it about a week after I got it:

Well folks, I've been absent for a while because I sent RALF to get a make-over. My dry skin along with the smooth ebony was causing me some fumbles and near misses cutting myself, so I sent him off to get stippled. I couldn't find anyone to checker the wood, and the stippling is not as positive as checkering or jigging, but it helps.
...
I was wondering why we hadn't seen RALF for awhile, Jeff; sounds like a fine enhancement!:thumbsup::cool: I look forward to seeing a close-up of the stippling someday.

...
Of course Willie, I enjoy the chilli debates here :) In part, that is because we don't really have an equivalent here I don't think, the debate over whether milk should go in the cup before the tea, or be added to the tea after it has been poured has been rather lost to time! :D ...

I had to sit through an awful lot of rubbish when my kids were young

Morning Guardians, hope the dawn of a new week greets you gently :) I've just cut into a new loaf for my morning toast :) Hope everyone has a good week
...
Jack, that milk/tea debate is NOT lost to the world of statistics!!:thumbsup:;) Sir Ronald Fisher conducted an experiment to investigate whether there was any evidence for a lady's claim that she could distinguish between cups of tea that had milk before tea and those that had tea before milk. The Lady Tasting Tea experiment was very influential in the development of inferential statistics and experimental design, and was the title of a famous statistic book published in 2001! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_tasting_tea

I watched most of the movies and read most of the books my daughter read until her high school years, and have to admit that I actually enjoyed most of them!:D

I enjoy your bread and HHB pics, but do you actually use the HHB to slice your loaves?? The blade doesn't look long enough for many of the loaves, but the slices look too smooth to have resulted from the "cutting around the loaf" technique I'd inexpertly use!

I really enjoy the tactile feel of a nice knife and love to look at the lines and manufacture of said knife but the real treasure isn't in the having...rather, it's the people relationships that are forged in this hobby of ours, shared knowledge, and experiences that we all enjoy. I suppose that my recent health issues (I'm fine now) have caused me to be a little reflective today and as I was grabbing my HHB I got to thinking...just want to say thanks to everyone who I have interacted with on this Sub-Forum and hope that I will soon have reason to communicate with those whom I haven't yet had the chance to do so yet.

Hear! Hear! and Amen, Bill!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I once read that same sentiment expressed here in these words that I still remember. The Porch: Come for the knives, stay for the people. :)

...
I'm sure the students would be ok. Liverpool University has thousands of foreign students who I'm sure for the most part survive perfectly well.
A snowy walk is always a good way to get the heart pumping. I don't own snowshoes though and unless you live in say northern Scotland there's no point in most of the UK, so if you hit any deep stuff it always needs a bit more effort. Should of taken more pies. :)
That's a lovely looking pocket watch of your great-uncles you have there.
...
Thanks for the good word on my pocket watch, David, and for the additional info on Liverpool U. and on snow-trekking. :)

Hope everyone is getting along well  This Turner & Co is a recent addition. It's a big un at 4 1/8" closed. Main blade is 3 9/16 " Thick and heavy with a wraparound spring on the pen. It's a handful.
sfAK8k1.jpg
What a ravishing knife!! The stag is sensational!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

...
All the chili-talk in this thread lately made this week’s dinner choice an easy one. :D We didn’t make cornbread this time around, so I had it over Fritos and rice with some shredded cheese on top.
...
Looks great, Barrett!:cool::thumbsup: I often make chili with rice or pasta or potatoes as an ingredient; I guess that saves me a step. ;) I also use chill as a "sauce" on lots of other foods.

...
Well, for a late dessert I am enjoying a blueberry scone (pronounced like Jack says it), made by my daughter. She has never made scones before, but I must say it is excellent! And some strong English Breakfast tea. Two tea bags. No sissy milk and sugar here!
...
Vince, that scone looks pure professional; my compliments to the baker!:cool::thumbsup:
I almost never drink tea, so I have no opinions on how that should be served. But for the past several years, I have a cup of coffee each morning as a way to get caffeine into my system. My typical "brewing method" this days is to microwave a mug of sissy milk and then stir in Folger's instant coffee crystals; I add nothing to the mug other than those two ingredients. Do I drink my coffee black, since I add no milk or sugar??

...
My friend on the tool-stall and his old Teddy Boy mates are quite fond of their crepe-soled shoes :D
...
...
When I was in college, I had a pair of blue suede shoes. Mine were high-top Hush Puppies. ;) I prefer Carl Perkins' version of the song. Here's Perkins about 30 years after he wrote the song, performing it with a little help from some semi-famous friends:

We have a couple of these boxes around our neighborhood too. None of mine have ever had an HHB in it though :(

Lucky guy ;)
Jack, that photo was an inspiration!:thumbsup::cool: I could imagine a recurring theme of Guardians taking lambsfoot pics at Little Free Libraries in their locales. I walk past at least a half dozen of them every day I go to campus, and there are another half dozen I know of in another neighborhood in which I frequently take walks!

...
Hey Jack, I think I found a sandwich shop your mate might like! :D
...
Barrett, that's impressive!! :D:thumbsup::thumbsup: Is that someplace around Minneapolis, or just an internet find? We're planning to attend my daughter's graduation from a public health master's program at University of Minnesota in May, and if that's a local attraction, I ought to see it in person!:D

Brilliant! :D

I watched most of the movies and read most of the books my daughter read until her high school years, and have to admit that I actually enjoyed most of them!:D

There is nearly 5 years between each of my 3 girls, so we always had to go with the younger film classification. I saw some pretty rotten films, but I have to say that the worst might have been picked by my eldest daughter when she was about 17 - My Big Fat Greek Wedding - It was so bad, I pretended I was going to the bathroom, and had a cup of coffee in the foyer! What's more, after a while, I was joined by my middle daughter, who had also sneaked out of the film! :D

I enjoy your bread and HHB pics, but do you actually use the HHB to slice your loaves?? The blade doesn't look long enough for many of the loaves, but the slices look too smooth to have resulted from the "cutting around the loaf" technique I'd inexpertly use!

No, I use it to halve the breadcakes for my sausage sandwiches, but the blade is too short to slice a loaf. I either use a big old carbon steel Joseph Elliott Butcher Knife for that, or an early 20th century Firth Stainless Bread Knife :)

When I was in college, I had a pair of blue suede shoes. Mine were high-top Hush Puppies. ;) I prefer Carl Perkins' version of the song. Here's Perkins about 30 years after he wrote the song, performing it with a little help from some semi-famous friends:

Afternoon Guardians, I have had a full day here, but a pleasant one :) A few weeks ago, I was after some cup-hooks to hang my catapults on, but due to rampant gentrification in Leeds city centre, and the closure of all the hardware stores and market stalls, I struggled to find any. My pal on the tool-stall decided that he might try stocking a few items like this, and has knocked himself a 'display unit' together! :D Who on earth has that many empty Spam cans lying around

I was dragged to that film by my wife, but I was pleasantly surprised. I don't usually laugh out loud during fims, even comedies like the Pink Panther or the Marx Brothers films, but I guffawed during this one. Maybe it was because it reminded me of my family and "my culture" (I am of primarily Mexican descent). I think there are many similarities between Greek and Mexican cultures, and many of the characters reminded me of people I knew. Oh, it's not a classic like Casablanca, but it made me laugh.

That's good you enjoyed it Vince :D I have to admit, I did miss a lot of it! :D

 Don't you do anything in an orthodox manner, Gary? I hope the milk is at least whole milk! ;)
Vince, FWIW, I enjoy lambsfoot knives and I put my pants on one leg at a time (with the zipper in the front). :D
Maybe in my attempt to minimize criticism from others, I've adopted the strategy of doing so many things to which people could object that they literally don't know where to begin!:D:thumbsup:
