Good Morning Guardians - and anyone else looking in.

Interesting. It's a shame they couldn't repurpose it for something useful. If nothing else, post-apocalyptic dystopian movie sets.

Sad local news: Threadgills is closed and will not be re-opening post-pandemic. :(
I'll have to find another place to get my New Year's black-eyed-peas, cabbage, and chicken fried steak...

Not familiar with Threadgills, but it is sad to see restaurants closing. Looks like a good CFS.

Sorry to hear your sad news, Rachel.
Yeah, a real Austin institution. I believe they were the first establishment to get a liquor license post-prohibition, and Janice Joplin got her start playing there.

Hey John JohnDF JohnDF !!!!! When ya gonna stick your Jack Black Jack Black Jack Black SFO Stag Hartshead Barlow Knife in a tree like that?;) Curious minds want to know.
Never... Not Ever!
My Hartshead is for carrying, and admiring, but never using. It hasn't even cut a piece of paper.
It is my only true Safe Queen and I think it's one of the most iconic knives in my collection. One we will probably never see again.

Thanks Jack! What great adverts. I read a book last year on lost breweries and I'm sure Davenports was in it.
And 25p a bottle..... :eek::rolleyes:

I think their heyday was long before decimalisation David. In the 60's, they were a bit of a lower middle-class thing I think, for people who wanted to drink beer, but didn't want to go to the pub. The only person I ever saw receiving deliveries was a local fish-monger, which was pretty posh round my way! :D They were very innovative though, and were the only firm to deliver, so far as I know, a bit like Rington's Tea

Ahhh...optimism...:)

They were optimistic times :)

Nice HHB. :)

That's a handsome looking one, pity the blade is so worn but it looks like it's been well loved.

Thanks David, hopefully it's got a few more years left in it ;)

In reality I think we'd all just loll about an drink beer. :D

I don't know if you've ever seen the old cartoon where a speaker is trying to convince the audience of the validity of his Utopian vision?
"Further more," says the speaker. "In an egalitarian society, you'd only have to work one day a week!"
A heckler in the audience shouts out, "And what day would that be?"
The speaker is somewhat exasperated by the stupid question, and tells him, "Wednesday."
The reply comes back, "What every blood Wednesday?!"

Is that the land betwixt Fitzalan Square and Haymarket?

It is, it was officially called Castle Square, and still is today. One of my earliest memories is being shown the artist's impression of the project by my mother on the front of the local morning paper.

Good day everyone. Great lambsfoot pics as always.
My ironwood helping me with a little experiment today. :D

Looks like an interesting project

It is remembered very fondly by the people of Sheffield, but then they fondly remember lots of eyesores, such as these cooling towers...

Or these flats (housing project)

Sheffield has been making awful architectural choices since the aftermath of WW2. Locations in the city used to regularly double for grim Iron Curtain hell-holes in films and adverts

Very sad to hear about Threadgills :( Those are great photos Rachel

Hope all you Guardians are having a wonderful Friday! Speaking of coffee... my beans delivery arrived today, and my two blade lambsfoot helped get it opened and into the storage canister :D

And discussing favorite ways to make coffee, we used to be big fans of French presses until we got a Chemex coffee brewer and were converted!

Sure does make a beautiful cup of coffee ;)

Excellent choice :)

Thanks for the kind words guys :)
Thanks Jack! The kind words were rightly deserved my friend! :D

Fine example of Anglo-American cooperation, Ron!:cool::thumbsup:;)

Ron, congrats on your victory as a Wally World Warrior!!:thumbsup::cool::)
My weekly grocery shopping trips for the past 6 weeks have been quite frustrating! Toilet paper of any brand has been available only once (limit 2 packages), gallons of milk are limited to 2 of any kind (while I usually get 2 gallons of organic each week for my wife and 1 gallon of regular for me), my brand of orange juice gallons has disappeared for the past month (so far), I've never seen any indication that the store ever heard of hand sanitizer, frozen vegetables of various kinds appear and disappear randomly, my brand of oatmeal and of instant coffee are not currently stocked, ...

Almost everything I quoted here this morning was in a multi quote yesterday morning, but my MacBook somehow shut down on its own yesterday morning. :(

Thanks for your support, Jack. :) Another pic of Union Jack, "the original and genuine", follows. It's a pile side version of the mark side pose I posted earlier this week.

Thanks for the compliment Gary! :) We’ve had great success on our grocery shopping the last three weeks or so. So far no limits on milk or anything like that! Don’t tell anybody, but we just got back from Sam’s Club. Dropped almost $300 and came home with a trunk load of food. A lot of it was for storing, including several kinds of meat and fish for the freezer. I had to do a double take on your Union Jack photo. I first thought it was a photo of JohnDF JohnDF John’s 4x4 post! :D

The best place to get a meal like near you would be Rachel’s kitchen. ;) All you need is an Instant Pot and a Hot Air Fryer! :D

Beautiful Sambar and Damascus there my friend! :D

G’day Guardians! :D It rained all night so I’m using that as an excuse to not be mowing my yard. ;) Wasn’t there and old say that went something like “Never do anything today you can put off until tomorrow!” Since this sheltering in place crap it seems that has been my motto to live by! I do know another old saying that I’m a firm believer in! If one is good, two is twice as good! :D
