Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I couldn't wait, so brunch was leftover BBQ with potato and egg. And...I'm hooked on Hendersons!
It's sweeter than I expected, and I'd hardly call it strong or spicy (sorry, I'm obligated as a Texan to say that) but it is very good.

Oops...Lambsfoot knife out of frame. Gotta stay on topic. :D

About all I remember seeing out there was some tumbleweed. :p
I remember lots of yellow flowers of some sort. Very pretty.

Jack, Those are fantastic Photos my friend!!! Just great!

Thanks a lot Duncan, you're very kind :) I just had another walk round the block, but mainly took photos of my knife, two-thirds of which were out of focus, as usual

vDHaqAe.jpg

Didn't half of Yorkshire turn up to see those dropped? :D

Certainly half of South Yorkshire! You can get tankards, and cuff-links, and all sorts with them on! :D A daft mate of mine, who lives at that end of Sheffield, went to see the demolition, which happened late at night. He found a spot on an overlooking hill, drank a bottle of cider while he was waiting for the blast, went to answer a call of nature, and tumbled over, and fell right down the hill amid the weeds and nettles! He had just come to a halt, when he heard the bang, signalling that he had missed the spectacle completely! o_O Though of course he did make one of himself! :D

Yeah Barrett years ago I drove around California, New Mexico, Utah and Nevada. Good grief your country is huge. Us Brits really don't have a handle on distance. If I told someone here I was driving to say Cornwall from where I live (about 250 miles) all conversation would stop, there'd be a sharp intake of breath and then remarks like "bloody 'ell you should of set out last week if you want to get there for tomorrow"...
But I don't agree with the cop car thing. They seemed to pop up out of nowhere!:D

LOL! :D They must have heard you were coming David! :D ;)

It doesn't stop there with the flags thing though. There's another movement in England to have St' Georges Cross replaced with this:
3KrMzFM.png

It's the white Wyvern on a red background and was reputedly the banner of King Harold at the Battle of Hastings, which would sort of make it the original flag of Anglo-Saxon England.

And of course Cornwall has its own flag

Jack I'm sure some of them are still an empty shell as didn't they run out of money during the renovation a few years back? When I last passed through Sheffield (Derby beer fest), I looked up and was sure I could see daylight through some of them.

I remember seeing that too David, I thought they'd all be stripped out, and renovated for yuppies  But maybe I'm wrong - I'm not sure Sheffield has that many yuppies! :D

I don't know how accurate the Wikipedia page is, or when it was last updated, but this tells a different story :( I can remember playing under the flats in about 1964, when they were fairly new, and my parents had friends there

Good afternoon all. I hope your all well and you've all got a nice Sunday planned.
This was yesterday evening after a hard day of doing nothing.
3HHxWQm.jpg

That looks like a perfect evening David! :) :)

I figure it's high time I added to the bread pictures with yesterday's batch. I used a mix of whole rye, whole hard red wheat, and whole hard white wheat, along with my sourdough starter. It pairs well with the jam I make from my plum tree (and the ironwood lambsfoot, of course).

Crazy Canuck Crazy Canuck - Boy Mike...You do know what I like. Great capture. The snickerdoodles look fabulous.:) Then there’s that beautiful Lamb Foot.

Good Late Evening Guardians.

Those look very tasty Mike, I've been looking up recipes! :D Great pics :)

Thanks Jack. They sure don't last long in our house! Speaking of recipes, here's the one I use for them. Glad to hear there's some small improvement to your back and hope it continues! Fantastic looking sourdough and AC today.

Mike they look great. But just what is a 'snickerdoodle'? :)

Great pics, Jack.

Aren't those peaty Islay malts the best?:thumbsup:
Indeed they are the best. However, my stock is quickly shrinking due to being stuck in the house for Corona virus concerns. I need to make a liquor run and replenish. Afraid it is going to be mucho dinaros though.:eek::eek: Lagavulin 16 yr, Laphroig 10 year Original Cask Strength, Caol Ila 15 yr, etc., etc.:D

It was an interesting trip. 490 miles in one day  I had a 250 enduro (dirt bike) that was a blast to ride. I think my friends Norton was an 850 but I had several friends that ride several models of Nortons, some were 750’s. I love most all of that peaty Scotch!

Cornbread is definitely leavened. Eggs, baking soda and or baking powder. Everyone’s recipe is slightly different.

Thanks! I do love that peaty Scotch from Islay. My son got to take a tour of several of the distilleries there while he he was in the Navy. He was stationed for a while in Naples, Italy. He thoroughly enjoyed it.
Les, I was in Scotland last year for a week long tour and went to some of the distilleries too. Sadly I didn't get to Islay. :(

Incredible Dan! Great pics my friend
Gracias amigo :thumbsup::)

Crikey Dan, they don't mess about do they.

No, they don't. .
I will be keeping a healthy "social distancing" whenever I see one from now on ( those things can attack you )
I got a bit too close on this one.

Dan, that is one sharp blade:D:D:D

:D Yes lol. Never underestimate the sharpness of a lambsfoot :D

This Black Friday picture does not reflect my mood... I remain joyful and optimistic. :)

It is Friday... Right?

I’m going with my Ebony Waynorth Cutlery Lambsfoot today! :D
...
John & Ron, thanks for the Friday pics of your elegant and exquisite ebony WCLFs!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

I have aspirations to fit in mine again one day Gary! :D

Yeah maybe! :D Thanks buddy, I have always been a fan of extra pockets, given a choice between buying a casual shirts with or without pockets, I'd always go for the pockets! :D

I once called a girlfriend by the wrong name, didn't go down well

Many thanks Gary, I'll be glad when it stops niggling o_O
...
That's a great pic GT, you got a good one there :) I miss being able to go over to York :(
As I was putting away the laundry yesterday, I noticed that I have an embarrassing amount of clothes in the closet that I never wear, probably couldn't wear, and will probably never be able to wear again. Why???:rolleyes:

Yeah, I can see how every act of calling someone by the wrong name does NOT have the same consequences. Our dogs seem not to care at all, my daughter's irritation about it is kind of cute, but it could be a deal-breaker in the case of a significant other. ;)

I hope your back issues are completely resolved long before this pandemic and its implications depart from our society.

Thanks for the kind words, Jack. :)

...
Sad local news: Threadgills is closed and will not be re-opening post-pandemic. :(

That IS sad news, Rachel, and I fear that it will not be uncommon news for many establishments as weeks and months go by. :(

Great picture, GT. :cool::thumbsup:

Thanks, John. :)

I posted three or four of them this week... But one more can't hurt. ;)
OUCH!! Too much of a great thing! :p:D:p

"Further more," says the speaker. "In an egalitarian society, you'd only have to work one day a week!"
A heckler in the audience shouts out, "And what day would that be?"
The speaker is somewhat exasperated by the stupid question, and tells him, "Wednesday."
The reply comes back, "What every blood Wednesday?!"

Harvey, I appreciate your looking at Union Jack from both sides now. :)

...
Thanks for the compliment Gary! :) We’ve had great success on our grocery shopping the last three weeks or so. So far no limits on milk or anything like that! Don’t tell anybody, but we just got back from Sam’s Club. Dropped almost $300 and came home with a trunk load of food. A lot of it was for storing, including several kinds of meat and fish for the freezer. I had to do a double take on your Union Jack photo. I first thought it was a photo of @JohnDF John’s 4x4 post! :D
...
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. :D
Congrats on your shopping success, Ron; sounds like you'll be well-stocked for the foreseeable future!:cool::thumbsup: Sorry to confuse you with the pic on the garden post; John is right about the flattery. (I wonder when my first shot of a knife on one of the vertical posts from the frames of our raised beds in the back yard occurred? The posts have been out there for several years already.)

I'm struggling this morning Guardians :( Had a new Windows update forced on me yesterday, and now I can't get online via my computer. I've been messing around with it all morning, but it doesn't seem to be an easy fix, and I need the connection for work.
...
Edit (25 minutes later!) - I can barely believe I've managed to fix the darned thing. If I had £1 for every minute I've had to waste fixing the errors that Windows 10 has inflicted upon me I'd be rich now
Sorry to hear you had that frustration foisted on you, Jack. :(

View attachment 1328414 Morning guardians my grandchildren wanted me to make them quarantine snacks so I enlisted the help of these 3 fellas. These wright lambsfoot have been recovered by @jsdistin and fit & finish are now stellar. Chose cinnamon giraffe bone African Blackwood and Appaloosa bone
Congrats on the 3 lambsfoot mods, AL!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
You're churning out mass quantities of quarantine snacks! ;):thumbsup:

I’m using a bandana as a mask when I go out for groceries now. I’ve opted for the old-school triangle fold, tied around the back of the neck, using two bandanas for the extra layers. I find it more comfortable than other kinds of cloth face masks, and I enjoy that it looks like I’m planning on holding up a stagecoach (just as soon as I finish stocking up on eggs and milk at Costco). :D
...
I don’t know that I’ve ever shared a photo of the pile side of my Ironwood Guardian’s Lambsfoot. It has some (I think) interesting little flaws in the wood that give it extra character.

EBujtUn.jpg
As always, I enjoyed your wide-ranging post, Barrett!:cool::thumbsup:
The flaws in your ironwood aren't nearly as disturbing to me as is the alien creature (or is it The Mummy??) with a flashlight (pin) examining the largest "inclusion"!:rolleyes:

Those days are long over.
I crush him when I can now. :D
...
Super easy. I use a bleeder tool, but you could just make a little 1/4" slit with your Lambsfoot.

It was glorious!!!
Nice to get rid of the mop on my head.
Nice to interact with a friend for a while too.

Social Distancing doesn't apply to family members that live together. ;)
No mercy for the young!:thumbsup:;)
Thanks for the braiding tip. :)
Glad the haircut expedition was a success.
Good point about social distancing; I have 7 lambsfoots living in two small compartments of a Plano box, and 1 in my pocket.

Wasn't sure if you were serious, Gary, but you didn't use a winking or laughing emoji/emoticon, so I will assume you are. I have never heard of "matron saints." Men and women can be patron saints. Here is a short definition from a Catholic website:

...
Betcha didn't know that Excalibur was a lambsfoot.
Thanks for the info, Vince; I've attended Protestant churches all my life and know very little about Catholic perspectives on saints, gender, etc. After you sent me the quote from the website, I googled both "matron saints" and "matron of the arts" and got some hits. Just scanning the search results without detailed follow-up, both seem to be current feminist concepts.
I like your Round Table pic with Excalibur!:cool::thumbsup:

I had to look up all four of those terms, and having done so, I don't think I'm very enlightened!:cool: On my only trip to Europe, restricted to Spain, I was amazed by the narrowness of many of the old passages that were referred to as streets (calles).

And that was cherry blossom. We'd had a blustery night which had blown a lot of the blossom off.

Glad your back is doing much better, David.
I didn't know those were cherry blossoms, but I did know they weren't roses. But I've been advised so often that "Life is not a bed of roses" that I wanted to "turn the tables" and say that the lambsfoot's life IS a bed of roses.

Thanks chaps but that's it. It's my anti-cellphone tracking case. A tin pencil case padded with sleeping mat off cuts.

Yeah GT, I didn't know until recently that apparently St' George is patron saint to several countries and that he was from what is now modern day Turkey in the 4th or 6th century?

Now those fine two lambsfoots should be at least 2 metres apart. :D

It doesn't stop there with the flags thing though. There's another movement in England to have St' Georges Cross replaced with this:

"Wyvern" is a new word for me!:cool::thumbsup: I'm amazed I've lived for almost 70 years without running across the distinction between a wyvern and a dragon. I don't care about the white wyvern on a red field for a flag, but it would be a very desirable t-shirt!:D

Yeah, I never had anything above my 750 Triumph Tiger, seems like a lifetime ago I was riding bikes :) My granddad had a Norton 500 :) I'm with you on the Scotch

Oh, I hope your back feels better soon, Jack.

The last time I visited New York City, I was considering visiting the Tenement Museum. But looking around my brother's hole of an apartment I said, "Why bother?" :p

So, I was doing a little internet shopping a few weeks ago, and saw that I could order some of this magical elixir I've heard so much about. It arrived yesterday, and I'm deciding what to try it on. I don't have any chips (fries) or bread for a butty, but I could bake a potato...

LOL! :D Who'd a thought it?! :D I'm glad you like it Rachel, I wish they'd stop putting 'spicy' on the label, it's not spicy at all is it, except in the sense that it has spices in it, which was perhaps the original meaning? Nice Lambsfoot pic too :)

Someone get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? Feeling a little frisky? You can't honestly be expecting a positive response coming into an over 1900 page thread dedicated to a specific knife type and making a mess on the floor... Almost like you're getting the reaction you're hoping for.

I'd call it flavorful. :) Reading the ingredients, it claims to have a little cayenne, and I guess I could taste a little peppery flavor but no heat. It also contains saccharine, so I imagine the recipe has been changed a few times in the last 100 years.

David, as Les so eloquently already answered this question, Cornbread is always leavened! There is Self Rising cornmeal which contains all the leavening agents, just add oil, egg and milk or Plain Cornmeal where you have to add the leavening agents and of course the other ingredients. :D Very nice pizza and Lambsfoot David! :)

Cornbread is definitely leavened. Eggs, baking soda and or baking powder. Everyone’s recipe is slightly different.

LOL! :D Yes, I have the clothes I hope I might fit in again, and the ones I've just given up on! :D I do give a lot of stuff away! :D

Thanks a lot Gary, I'm grateful :) I'm frustrated it's dragged on so long now, but hopefully I'll be OK again in a couple of days

More Union Jack, acting mysteriously almost a year ago:

An oldie, but a goodie! ;) :)

:p :D
I should take more knife pics on that wall along the alley, especially during the summer when it's often shady there.
Great photo of that road/path!:cool::cool: What do you call that kind of "road surface"? You have FAR more spring greenery than we do so far.

It'd be nice to see some my friend :) It's called a 'cobbled' road. Quite rare in Sheffield, which was in large part re-built after the intervention of the Luftwaffe, but still not uncommon in Leeds. It's incredible how Spring has sprung these past few weeks, the trees were still bare when the lock-down here was called.

I had to look up all four of those terms, and having done so, I don't think I'm very enlightened!:cool: On my only trip to Europe, restricted to Spain, I was amazed by the narrowness of many of the old passages that were referred to as streets (calles).

Sorry GT! :D Most Yorkshire folks don't know that 'snickleways' was
only invented by an author in the 1980's ;) I love to get to know new places well, and have spent a lot of time in Barcelona, where I loved to walk in the labyrinthine Gothic Quarter, and the surrounding Barrios. I've had some great times there :)

Union Jack yet again:
