Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Sounds delicious! :D I don’t remember where I first heard of it, but I’ve been aware of Bovril for some time. I did learn something new today while looking up the Wikipedia page, though: it was originally called “Johnston’s Fluid Beef.” Can’t imagine why they changed the name! :D

The Oxo was only eclipsed by the Second (and later Third) Division football! Sitting or standing in the cold and wet, watching an abysmal level of play, for the best part of 2 hours, with nothing more to look forward to than a plastic cup of a thin bouillon drink at half-time, didn't exactly inure me with a love of the game  ;)

LOL! :D

Was it Louis L’Amour that said in one of his books he liked his coffee hot and black as the hinges of hell?

Fabulous horn gents  :)

Been grading stacks of papers.
Time for a break and my afternoon cup of coffee.

Amazing John ;)

How about a Friday afternoon Lambfoot knife pic just for the heck of it?

Looking good Ed

Taking a short break from Sam Smith’s. I enjoyed this local Hazy Pale Ale tonight while working on dinner. It’s pretty good, very citrusy, a completely different animal than Sam Smith’s Pale Ale. :D

Looks good Barrett, I had a break from Sam Smith's yesterday myself, I had the Imperial Stout queued up in the fridge, but ended up drinking a few lighter beers out in the garden with a friend. Something to look forward to later ;)

Both are fine lookers, Jack, before or after!;):thumbsup:

...

Have a great weekend!

Thanks a lot Dennis, that's a fine shot, the Ironwood really pops, and the patina is too cool for skool ;) Hope you have a great weekend too my friend

Good Morning Guardians, I hope everyone's week passed off peacefully, and that you're all safe and well. Another summery day here in Yorkshire, and I am missing my regular Saturday hike. I did have a nice walk of a few miles yesterday, but today I imagine the local parks and woods will be busy with people (they were a bit busy for my liking yesterday). It's too nice to stay indoors, so I'm going to have to think of something to do, even if it's just sitting in the garden, and maybe doing some bottle recycling  I don't know if any of you have anything exciting planned, but I hope you have a very pleasant Saturday :) Adding some excitement to my pockets, at least, with a Double Lambsfoot Day :D

Running a bit behind today, and just having my mid-morning coffee at a quarter to 1  Ginger nuts are the biscuits I associate with my childhood, since they were the ones my family most commonly had in (though often a cheaper brand). I'm not an habitual biscuit dunker, but ginger nuts dunk better than most, and I can remember being introduced to the practice, as a toddler, by my teenage auntie, who warned me not to tell my parents, as it was considered a little 'common' back then

Amazing John ;)

Thanks, Jack!:)

Thank you very much, José!

Thank you, John!:cool::thumbsup:

Thank you, David!;)

Thank you very much, Gary!
The pen was turned by another member here on the forums, Osage Orange. I like the fatter feel, easier to hold onto with the "arthr"!:D

Thank's, Harvey! The flag question was if that flag was given to your family if your dad had a military funeral. Sorry for the confusion.

Great to see ya here, Mark! Great photo!:)

Thank you very much, Gary!:thumbsup: Just looks like I'll have to get back on the iron infusions for a bit.

Great shot, José!

Great combination to start the day with, Ron!:)

Thanks John, they are simple and old-fashioned :) If you like ginger, I recommend Fox's Crinkle Crunch :) After this situation ends, I'm going to have to kick the biscuit habit again

Good Morning Guardians
It feels like a WCLF kind of day.
Some pretty wild electrical storms woke me up early.

I have only seen those kind of electrical storms when I lived in the Middle East, and parts of Southern Europe, we don't really get them here. Some nice ebony there my friend

Very tasty looking, Jack.:D:thumbsup:

Morning, Gs! My Yixing blue clay pot is used for flavored black tea, and this morning RALF and I are enjoying some Simpson & Vail chocolate caramel dessert tea, with a bit of honey.

The weather here is absolutely perfect (for a change!) with sunny skies and mid 70s for a high temp.

We're just happy you had something besides beans and toast. ;):D

Thanks, Jack. :)

LOL! :D It's getting close John  :D ;)

Very civilized Jeff :) Nice composition

Was there a reason that started David, that you know?

I think it was something to do with Prince Albert. Many of our Christmas traditions (eg, Christmas Trees) are imports from Germany made popular by Prince Albert, (Queen Victoria's German husband) and if I'm recalling this correctly Christmas cards were one such tradition. Naturally you need winter scenes to put on Christmas cards and Robins would of been a natural choice.

I don't know if you got it from Barnitt's David, but I always roll my eyes when I see their knife board, and they have just got a small number left. Why don't they order more, and keep them in stock. Not that the Sheffield firms have the gumption to hire a Traveller, or even to ring round to see if they need any stock o_O

Aye Jack, I know what you mean. The last time I was in Barnitts (last summer thereabouts) I noticed they had a very poor selection on offer. But I bought my twin blade from Goodall & Sons in Malton, which of course sadly closed for good last year. :(
Barnitt's maybe a couple of years ago?
4bE0QZL.jpg

It is still available as 'liquid paraffin', but only in those large pet supply places you come across in the middle of nowhere. The last time I was looking for some, I needed to buy a gallon!

Crikey! What they clearing out? Cows?:D

Just got a request on Imgur to sign up for an 'Ad Free Experience' for $5 a month! That doesn't sound good o_O

A mate of a mate of mine ran his own software company (before he sold it to ?Microsoft for bazillions) and I remember once he said that he believed one day the internet would essentially become unusable for most people due to all the adverts.

David, they are a bit bulky, my 2 blade is 4 1/8", you either have to cinch your belt up a notch or carry if in a belt sheath, I carry it in a pancake sheath, works great, I don't even know it's there til I need it.

Aye I always thought about a sheath for mine but never got round to it. Then again it's not as much a problem in England as we usually have to wear a coat 45 weeks of the year. :D

Good Morning Guardians
I finally got the call I've been waiting for last night...
I've mentioned a few times how I've been extra busy at work, this is because my school is closing for good and they have laid off all 12 teachers (including me). I was part of a committee to "re-imagine" the school with only 3 teachers left on staff. We've put in a lot of hours trying to figure out how to make it work, knowing that not all the teachers on the committee would be re-hired. Last night I got the call from HR that I will be re-hired for our new school... It's time to celebrate!!! Still a ton of extra work ahead of me as we forge the new program, but I'm happy to get to stay at the school I've been at for 15+ years. Sorry for the long and personal post, I'm just very excited. :)

Crikey John that's not good; just how much deep a do-do are we actually in when they have to start shutting schools?? Both me and my brother are starring redundancy in the face at the moment so a hearty congratulations on securing your job.

Appropriate reading.

I don't know if you'll be able to understand any of this John (lad is from donn donn 's side of the Pennines), but don't try dunkin' Rich Tea biscuits, it's something everyone of my generation learned the hard way

Funny. :D:thumbsup:
Am happy to translate for anyone if required. :D

if I follow the alley east, it runs for almost a quarter mile (3 "half-blocks") before ending right across from the Miti-Mini Superette ("BEER WINE GROCERY LIQUOR").

That's handy. :D

But if I turn left out of the alley at the first street east of my street, I see this yellow house at the corner of Hall and Benjamin. Note the "saltbox" style, with 2 stories on one side, but only one story on the other side:

I do like the domestic architecture of the U.S. Your traditional houses are very handsome and homely looking.

I spilt a bottle of that on the carpet of one of the rented houses I lived in in York and actually had to get a professional cleaner in to shift it.:D

I think the Eastern Bloc anti-coffee plot was Barleycup (which I thoroughly hope you've never been unlucky enough to taste), it was flooding hippy wholefood shops right through the Chernobyl period, made from radioactive acorns and Soviet factory floor sweepings,

So it tasted better than actual coffee then. :D

Good for if your feeling sick to. I sometimes give them to my post-op patients for post-op nausea.

It's been a busy couple of days for me actually but this was on my evening walk last night.

Yes, I think you're right about that David. I was more interested in the Robin though, I always associate them with Christmas, but it seems they are actually a summer visitor, with many flying away to warmer climes in the winter

I think they had 3 knives in that cabinet the last time I was in David. I mentioned their low stock levels several times to the manufacturers, but they didn't show any interest. Too much trouble to pick up the phone and ring a long-standing customer I guess o_O

Crikey! What they clearing out? Cows?:D

LOL! :D I think it might be more due to the semi-wholesale nature of their business, a bit like Costco, from whom I received these jars of jam and marmalade the other day

Yeah, it's getting a bit like that already o_O Sometimes, on my phone, if I need to give an email-address, password, or other details, there are so many pop-up ads, I'm unable to see to do it, which means I end up not ordering from that particular firm o_O

Funny. :D:thumbsup:

Ahh sorry Jack. Here in north Cheshire/south Lancashire we have Robins year round, (if anything their less numerous in the summer) so I don't know why some would migrate and some wouldn't.

I think they had 3 knives in that cabinet the last time I was in David. I mentioned their low stock levels several times to the manufacturers, but they didn't show any interest. Too much trouble to pick up the phone and ring a long-standing customer I guess o_O

I'm sorry to hear that; it's no way to run a business, especially one that is obviously capable of turning out such quality products as your SFO's. :(

Aye sorry John of course, I was more just thinking out aloud really, as I guess it all comes down to someone's list of priorities....
Thanks for the well wishes.
