Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Hello Guardians !
Wishing everyone a great weekend

Great photos Barrett, I have never been to Cardiff market, or even visited Wells, I had planned to visit that part of the country this year, but that trip will have to be for another time now o_O

Thanks, Jack. I had to filch the photo of the Welsh cakes stall off the internet. Apparently I did a terrible job of taking photos when we were in Cardiff. :( (But that is the place we got them from, and they were tasty!)

Wells is nice. Part of the reason we decided to go was because they filmed the majority of Hot Fuzz there. :D (Spoiler alert: if you haven’t seen Hot Fuzz, don’t look at the map, log off of BladeForums and go watch Hot Fuzz.) ;)

The big shootout scene was filmed in the market place. (That gate is called the Bishop’s Eye.)

Here’s another picture I took at the market, looking the other direction from the spot where I took the first photo. I didn’t realize it at the time, but there’s quite a bit in this photo from the movie. The building on the left with the flowers and the Union Jacks is The Crown, a hotel which served as the exterior for the local pub in the film. During the market place shootout, Simon Pegg’s character takes cover behind the base of the tall fountain (conduit?) that you can see just behind the market stalls, and he gets shot at from the second-story corner window of the building just behind that.

RMTMaYB.jpg

(For some reason I didn’t get a good shot of The Crown, even though we had looked up some of the locations beforehand, and were obviously right there.)

St Cuthbert’s Church is also featured in the film. (If you’re familiar with it, you’ll probably remember the scene).

JA9FVwQ.jpg

And there were scenes filmed around the Bishop’s Palace (though I think those were mostly at night).

2iGmRcU.jpg

Interesting side note, they didn’t use Wells Cathedral in the film, and actually digitally edited it out of any shots in which it could be seen in the background.

I did have a nice trip to the market, thanks my friend :) Thankfully, the new entrance has not been built yet - and I hope it never is! o_O

That’s good to hear, Jack.

Are you sure about that entrance? o_O

Ah! Stupidity! I knew there had to be some reason why they do it Jack! Thanks Jack. Pam and I have decided to make a serious effort to eat healthier during this COVID crisis and we are bound and determined to stick with it long term. The salad was very good. Healthy and tasty can most certainly go hand in hand. I'm glad your pal is doing good. I know you guys had a great visit yesterday! :)

btb01 btb01 Thanks for the great photos Barrett!

Thanks, Ron! I feel like I’ve been eating healthier meals the last few months since we’re cooking them all at home, but I‘ve also been snacking more (mostly on things I shouldn’t be eating) which has likely offset the healthier meals. :D

Tonight I decided to crack open that canned-in-2013 Oskar Blue’s Ten FIDY Imperial Stout. Nothing wrong with it at all; in fact, it was still pretty good! It has a lot of the flavors you’d get with a barrel-aged stout, really pronounced roasted malts, and a bit of hoppy bitterness (if I remember correctly, it has a high IBU for a stout).

I paired it with my Ebony Guardians Lambsfoot, which I consider to be the Imperial Stout of Lambsfoot knives. :D

For me, it's time for bed on the west coast! Jack will be up soon in England, so I thought I'd post some of his inspired production here and say Good Morning!!:)
Have a wonderful weekend Jack, Barrett, and everyone else!!

The HHB is looking good Jack!

Thanks Bill :)

Patrick Stewart never looked so good:D:D:D

That'll be the plastic surgery! :D ;)

Thanks Jack! :) We’re going to try to stick with it, knowing it’s not an easy task. My Lambsfoot flock has grown some lately Jack. I need to make an effort towards a family portrait someday soon! :)

It can only get easier Ron, particularly when you start feeling the benefits :) Photographing your flock will not be an easy task either my friend! :D It sure would be great to see though :)

Wow, what a great presentation Barrett, thank you :) I remember you mentioning your visit to Wells before, and I think donn donn has also been. I have friends in both Bath and Bristol, and have been meaning to visit for ages, so I'll definitely try and get to Wells. I have spent some time in the Forest of Dean, not too far away, and it's a beautiful part of the country :) I've lost count of the amount of times I've watched Hot Fuzz :D

That’s good to hear, Jack.

 !! Now I think on, I only came OUT of that entrance! Ugly and garish as it is though, that's just a paint-job, so I don't know why it cost so much?! o_O

I came across this:

“As noted by the conservation officer, the polychromatic geometrical design has a resonance with the late Victorian architecture which is the predominant character of this part of the city centre conservation area and is considered to be an enhancement of the conservation area setting.”

Yeah, right! o_O

Good for you Barrett, I'm glad you enjoyed it :) It looks great, as does your ebony '18 :D :) I also un-boxed an Imperial Stout last night, in the form of this hefty 11%er ;)

Thank you very much my friend, I hope you wake refreshed from a wonderful night's sleep :) Congratulations on a successful CT op Charlie, I hope you heal fast, and are soon thumbing open those Lambsfoot blades again :) Great pic

Good Morning Guardians, hope everyone has a great weekend :) The weather here is still pretty miserable, strange after such a lovely Spring. I don't really have anything exciting planned, but I might get out for a hike tomorrow (current weather forecast is 'dull' rather than 'rain' Whatever you're doing, have a fun and enjoyable time folks

Thanks for the encouraging words Jack! :) Positive visible results do make it easier to keep it up! I will definitely try to get that photo in the coming week. It’s going to be a beautiful Saturday here. Milder temps and low humidity are drawing us to the outside for some more deck work. Finally on the verge of completion. Have a great weekend my friend! :)

We must have had over 8 inches of rain in this last week and more is coming all next week too:eek:. Hopefully we'll get a break with a little sunshine here and there. Jack your HHB photos are always interesting to me and a pleasure to view.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks, Jack! You know, I’ve heard of the Forest of Dean, at least in passing, but for some reason I thought it was in the northern part of England. (Obviously I was wrong!)

My brother asked me recently which was my favorite between Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End. It’s a tough call, but I think I enjoy Hot Fuzz the most.

Yeah, that rendering definitely makes it look 3D, especially at the bottom where it extends out away from the building, but it sounds like the plan was always just to paint the wall to give the illusion of a 3D structure. As for the cost, the artist did state “that the paint will be of highest quality and robust for outdoor conditions.” :D

Yikes! Stay dry, Bill!

Good Morning Guardians
There were some nice Summer Storms last night.
Thunder, lightning, and heavy rains. Luckily, it ended before I went to bed.

My "Recycled Saturday" picture...

Great photo, John!

I’ll have to do a recycled photo for now, too.

We call this weather Junuary out here in the Pacific Northwest!!:D
Wintry bluster, intermittent rain, lightning and thunder sometimes, interspersed with warm sunshine!! Dithering stuff!!

Excellent photos, guys! I’m afraid I don’t have much experience with European markets. On our last trip to England, we spent a day in Cardiff and visited the Cardiff Central Market. It‘s not as large or ornate as those you shared (or the Leeds market), but they do have Welsh cakes, so… :D

xtxOWg7.jpg

On our first trip to England, we visited Wells (in Somerset) on a “market day.”

0IbJoWM.jpg

While Wells is fairly small, the mostly-outdoor market was surprisingly large. (The photo above shows only a very small portion of the stalls.) Not far from the marketplace is the impressive Wells Cathedral.

LOL! I was going to mention Hot fuzz as well Jack. Brilliant film.
I've never made it to Wells though, but I may change that as I'm looking at visiting places by car when I'd normally use the trains. But I'm not going anywhere if their going to bring in stupid rules about how to visit the pub.

Colourful. Nice shot.

I've never seen him in Star Trek, but Patrick Stewart has been in the pub in Huddersfield that I go to with @ADEE, they have his photo on the wall. Nice photo of your '19 John
