Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

My Hartshead wanted to meet Mr. Racoon as well :D

Good evening Guardians, I hope everyone has had a great weekend :) I had a good 10 mile hike today in glorious weather, with some slingshot practice thrown in, and a pint and a pub meal at the end of it. It's getting on for 9.30pm here, and I'm still editing my pics. Looks like I've got a lot to catch up with here too. I'm not going to get finished tonight I'm afraid, but I'll catch up with everyone tomorrow, and post some pics from my hike
I detect blue skies and a smile on your mug.........makings of a good day I would surmise.

That looks mighty good, Jack. Have a great hike.

I always think Christmas Pudding looks unattractive, but it sure tasted good Rachel :) Thanks my friend

Thank you Jack.

...

Plenty of these types on this side of the Pond, Jack.

...

Good Afternoon Guardians

Unfortunately they get everywhere Harvey  Lovely shot of your ebony WCLF :)

Pic from yesterday. I will try to stop back in and catch up on quotes and post today's Lambsfoot.

Looking good Kevin :)

I hope the weather is as promised. :)

Many thanks John, it turned out pretty good :)

It’s hard to tell about the etch Jack. It appears at least as deep as the Wright’s etch. The letters appear more solid where the Wright’s appears more a series of micro dots. I’ll have more time tomorrow and I’ll get out the magnifier and maybe take some comparison photos for everyone to see. Maybe we could do a comparison of the various stamps and etches by the different makers! :)

Jack that’s some great photos of Lucy my friend! :)

That's very interesting Don  It could have been done on the same sort of etching machine as they have at Wright's, there would have been hundreds in Sheffield at one time, if not more, but if that were the case, I think you'd still see the tell-tale micro-dots. That's a good idea about the comparison pics

Lucy say thank you Ron ;)

I’m running a little late today, but I’ve had my Ashley’s Choice in my pocket! Y’all have a great weekend! :)

I know the feeling Ron, I wasted half an hour trying to find my specs this morning! Nice pic of your AC buddy :)

Here's to a great hike tomorrow Jack! I'll be hugging my air conditioner.
YJ7uUgG.jpg

Thanks Dave, nice to see you're keeping cool my friend ;)

Looks good, Jack! The Ironwood looks staggeringly good!;)

Thanks pal, that Ironwood turned out to have much more beauty and character than I had expected :)

It is a shame. There aren't many places left from when I moved here in 1980. I suppose new businesses will open in their place, eventually. But it takes years for a dive bar or greasy spoon to build up a "patina". ;)

" And the're never the same as the ones they replaced. "

A great shame :( I do worry about what will replace the longstanding independent businesses which just don't make it. What I've seen in Leeds Market over the past decade, or more, is that useful old stalls in the indoor market, sometimes there for generations, have been rep[laced by businesses neither I, nor most of the ordinary folk of Leeds, have any use for o_O I worry that the whole city centre will be the same way soon, even before the lock-down, there wasn't a single ordinary cafe left outside the market, and even there, there are less than a handful, compared to a dozen or more in the past :(

Thanks Kevin. Jason @Signalprick did a really fine job - much better and much more than I ever thought possible. As I told Jason; this is the best damn thing to happen to me since my cancer surgeries. It was Jason's idea to use the Snakewood and it turned out great.

Big round of applause for Jason :)

Sorry I missed this, Jack, but I’m certain that I wouldn’t have guessed Christmas pudding! ;)

Your Christmas-pudding-in-July got me thinking about my favorite local brewery back in Arizona, SanTan Brewing. They have an annual “Christmas in July” event at their brewpub/restaurant where they open a few reserved kegs of their Winter Warmer (served with fresh ginger snaps).

1sbDq5V.jpg

A few years ago, their Christmas in July happened to fall on Eleanor’s first birthday, so that’s where we went to celebrate. (I felt bad for the guy who had to wear the Santa getup in Phoenix in July!) :D

iU6Tojo.jpg

A bit of Lambsfoot content: This Rosewood has become one of my favorites. There’s just something about it that I really like. (Recycled photo.)

fQqVIcn.jpg

That looks like a great idea Barrett, but I can empathise with Santa, I was Santa at a local community centre a couple of times, and having padded myself out with a couple of down jackets under the suit, I walked into the place, and almost died, as they had the heating cranked up to the max! :D My sister has a photo of my niece Georgia, about a year old, with a department store Santa. She looks slightly terrified, and Santa has 'Love' and 'Hate' tattooed on his knuckles! :D Great pic of Eleanor, and of your Rosewood SFO, sometimes the simple ones really work :)

The photo really shows off a different perspective of your wonderful stag HHB Jack:thumbsup:

Dennis, seems that your stag HHB and Jack's are really showing well today. Hope you fellers have a good rest of the weekend.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks a lot Bill :)

Enjoy you hike. Looking forward to some pictures later :)
Gerd

Many thanks Gerd, hope you had a great weekend :)

That my friend is the way of the world now, it is a world wide trend. I've been watching a series of shows over here about cities of the world. All of them have old historic buildings, all different. The new office towers and buildings, and the houses in the new estates all look the same world wide, it is like they have come from a production line, very sad and uninspiring.

Good Morning Guardians

Those two look great together John :)

The newly recovered Standard by Jason @Signalprick with Snakewood covers stands out amongst the Hartshead SFOs, the SFO WCLF, the Stag Harrison, and the Standard Ebony SFO by Jack Jack Black Jack Black .

p9ziTUq.jpg

Hope everyone enjoys their morning and rest of the day.

Looks great Ed :) I only have one Lambsfoot in Snakewood, and it is a second - cheap, but the cracks in the wood rather spoil the point of having premium wood covers

Good morning to y’all! Today is going to be about staying cool and doing some knife and gun maintenance! I’m keeping my Ironwood Dam Lamb close at hand! I hope y’all stay cool, be safe and have a blessed Sunday! :)

Hope you had a great day Ron, that is a beautiful shot, you've really captured the Damascus well :) After all my hiking and catapultin', I could do with an easy day myself today! :D

Lovely photo Harvey, nice watch with your unusual Joseph Rodgers Shadow

Took the puppy out to the lake today.
It was good weather, walked a round a bit, very enjoyable morning.
Crappy pic but I wanted to show that my Lambsfoot got some exercise too.

Sounds like a great morning John, nice Lambsfoot choice my friend :)

Just for the heck of it, here's some Rosewood

J8wAc03.jpg

Great comparison pic Ed

That looks like a Happy Camper.:thumbsup:

Had a great day, and had a warm welcome at the pub too :)

You look like you deserve that after your hike. How long does your 10 mile hike take, roughly?

Thanks pal :) It's been a while since I last walked 10 miles, though there were only gentle hills on this one. I reckon there was about 3 1/2 hours of walking. At one time, I'd walk 40 miles, but those times are long over!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend !
yJdGuy3.jpg

Hope you had a good one Rob, wonderful Lamb  :)

Arrrg! I lost all the replies I typed out. :(
Oh well. I will try again later.
Anyway, here is a pic of how I started my day.
50130305966_16937be9dc_h.jpg

Oh no! :( Spiffy-looking Hartshead Kevin, hope you had a good Sunday

Welcome Jack :)
We are
Hoping that this summer lasts a long time before the dreaded “s” word starts falling from the sky

Thank you Dennis :)

Gracias Ron :)

Hey Guardians, just back from the weekend camping getaway at the Rideau.
Had very spotty cell signal out in the boonies :D so I'll catch up later on this evening.

In the meantime, here is more proof that coons can not resist the allure of a lambsfoot :D

It looks like you are taking advantage of every day Dan :) Incredible photos  :)

Great photo's. What are we looking at, we do not have those critters over here.o_O

We have some funny-looking critters of your own mate! :D

My Hartshead wanted to meet Mr. Racoon as well :D

3OyXvAO.jpg

So cool! Well done Dan :)

I detect blue skies and a smile on your mug.........makings of a good day I would surmise.

Yeah, had an excellent day George :) With all the rain and grey skies we've had this summer, on top of everything else, it made a nice change :)

Good Morning Guardians! Taken me a while to catch up! Back to the gloomy skies so far today, so I sure was glad I managed to get out yesterday, and the pint was a nice bonus :) Hope everyone else had a great weekend, and that your week gets off to a good start today. I'll post some pics of my hike ASAP. Be careful out there Guardians

A bit dismal, David, but as long as you have a Scottish egg, couldn't have been too bad!:thumbsup:

Happy Saturday, Guardians!
Sharing pocket space today is the fine JB HHB!
3NHqqZ4.jpg

A hot scotch egg and a steaming mug of tea would of made it even better.

You make bad weather look good, David.

Good Afternoon Guardians

Aye. not that hard to do in England. Just walk out the door and point your camera in any direction. :D
Lovely pic of your Waynorth there.

Is it wrong that I have never had Scottish Eggs?

Errr...YES! :D

donn donn Thanks for the great photos David! :)

Certainly doesn’t look like summer, but great photos nonetheless.

Your welcome chaps.

I’m running a little late today, but I’ve had my Ashley’s Choice in my pocket! Y’all have a great weekend! :)

Nice to see that. I often kick myself for missing out on that one.

Now I've been in Arizona in July. Can't say I felt like I needed warming up. :D
What a great 1st birthday party. :)

Scotch eggs! and me a vegan.
Looks good.

I'm sure I've seen vegan scotch eggs, though I can't say what was in them.

Really enjoyed my hike yesterday :) Catching the bus a couple of miles up the road, we walked down a small lane, with fields and a wood to the left of us, and Red Kites soaring overhead. The once-endangered species were re-introduced to this area about 20 years ago, and it has been a real success story, I now see them regularly over my house. Unfortunately, with my basic camera and photographic skills, I find them rather difficult to photograph, as they are usually a long way up, moving fast, and they tend to just look like black shapes in the sky. Beautiful to stand and watch though, and we saw dozens of them yesterday.

Some creatures move more slowly ;)

This is one the reservoirs on the edge of Leeds, but the paths around it were rather busy yesterday. The first Sunday of the school holidays, and indeed the first sunny day for a while, meant a large number of people headed to the countryside. Can't say I blame them, but I prefer my hikes to be more peaceful. Lot of cyclists as well as walkers.

We walked along a section of country lane, between fields, with great views on all sides.

Turning down a footpath, we lost a lot of the traffic, and the walk became more peaceful again.

The footpath continued between old dry-stone walls with fields and woods to either side. We headed into one of the woods to have lunch, but it was rather overgrown and densely wooded. Interestingly, the woodland was much narrower than indicated on my my 10-year old map. I had planned to put up a tarp and make coffee, but the nature of the ground precluded a fire. We leaned against trees to eat our sandwiches, and then spent about 45 minutes firing slingshots at tin cans I strung up on an old oak on the edge of the rear of the wood.

hzxS270.jpg

We returned to the footpath, and continued our walk. The path began to open up, with the woodland, mainly oak, rowan (mountain ash), and some crab apple, only on one side.

Meadow-land on the other side of the path was host to a variety of wild flowers, butterflies, crickets, and no doubt many unseen and unheard creepy-crawlies.

The woodland faded away, and we were now in open fields.

After another mile, we entered into the older woodland of the Harewood Estate, which I've mentioned before.

Cy4cxym.jpg

L3Yhe5B.jpg

After walking downhill through the woodland, we emerged at the bottom of the long, but gentle slope back uphill, through familiar countryside.

...

Eventually Harewood House could be seen off in the far distance.

8iA6r38.jpg

We continued on across the open footpath, which was busy with family day-trippers.

xCyS2xU.jpg

We turned into more dense woodland again for the last couple of miles of our walk.

gDYHjOb.jpg

Emerging from the wood, onto the road, we walked past the grand entrance to the big house, and decided to call in for a well-earned pint, and something to eat at the village pub. Great way to end a great day out

KqasRYm.jpg

Overhead, we were entertained by up to a dozen Red Kites soaring and plummeting over the rooftops of the small village, but sadly, you'll just see them as specks in the sky
