Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I had some bad news this evening, my best pal has tested positive for Coronavirus. He works in mental health, and volunteered to work on the hospital wards last Spring. He has been working with Covid patients these past few weeks, and doing a lot of extra hours because of staff shortages. He had his first shot of the Oxford vaccine a month ago, so since it didn't stop him becoming infected, I hope that it at least lessens the severity of the symptoms. He is 45, and very fit for his age, but has been suffering with asthma this past year. Ordinarily, he visits me on Friday mornings, and we have a coffee in my garden, but this Friday he had to work. He has three kids, so I'm hoping they're going to be alright too

Jack, hoping for a quick recovery for your friend.

Beautiful Waynorth Lambsfoot as well.

Good morning Guardians, I hope those of you who watched it, enjoyed Superbowl, and that everyone had a great weekend

I barely slept a wink last night! o_O Definitely going to try and fit a nap in later ;) I got up to a light dusting of snow, but there's more forecast. I think this year might be the first one where I've not been a little excited about seeing snow! :D Definitely gotten old!

I thought I'd carry my Bagpipe Ebony Big 'Un today :) I remember gifting one of these to @Half/Stop Ron, just a few months back, I didn't realise it'd be the last package I'd send his way :( Ron was an enthusiast for all the Lambsfoot patterns, but he really loved the Big 'Uns, and always hoped for a Guardians edition

Have a good week Guardians, and make sure you stay safe out there  Here's something to blow away the cobwebs! :D

I really like this Waynorth.
When I think that I probably could have had one and missed the opportunity, I am ashamed...

Thank you, it was a real labour of love for Charlie :) Sorry you missed out, but maybe you can get one at some point

It's snowing outside again here, coming down quite fast at the moment, though it doesn't look to be settling much. Judging from the news reports, we seem to be doing pretty well here in Leeds, compared to other parts of the country. I'm just getting ready to dish out some leek and potato soup for lunch

Dear all, not sure of protocol but have just joined because this forum kept popping up on Google searches whilst researching the knife my father-in-law left me. I have a small collection of old pocket knives as I work on square rigged tall ship's and use knives in the workplace. Anyhow, back on topic, I know nothing about Lambs foot knives hence my search. Hopefully someone can identify this knife and give me an idea of age. Hopefully i will sort out inserting pictures in due course...
Cheers all.

Nice one. Jack will know something about it. Welcome aboard.

Welcome aboard Jake :) In terms of protocol, have a read at post #1 in this thread, and maybe have a look at the first few pages. That sounds like an interesting profession. In terms of your other knives, there are probably other threads here to discuss them, but you have come to the right place for Lambsfoot knives! :D In post #1 you'll find a link to an index to the first few hundred pages of this thread, and that should save you a little time. That's an interesting Lambsfoot your father-in-law left you, quite unusual too. I think the covers (the slabs on the sides) are compressed fibre, which was most commonly seen on British/Commonwealth Army knives around WW2 and a little later. It's a very utilitarian design, what knife collectors call a 'Shadow' pattern, in as much that it has no front bolster, again like the Army knives. Do you know anything about how your father-in-law came to have it at all? If you have a look at the 'tang', the square area where the blade meets the frame, it will hopefully have the name of a maker. If you can read that, or take a clear photograph, it should be possible to tell you a bit more about it

Thanks, Jack. I'm sure I'll be fine, even though I know that's when they get you.
Still snowing here.

Hi Jack, I suffer from the same :(, not as bad as it used to though. My insomnia was a product of many years working shift work in the hospital. For the past 4 years my work no longer requires me to work nights which has been very good for my overall health.
Last year I slowly weaned myself over a period of 4 months from the sleeping pilds that I had taken for a few years in order to cope with shift work. I am so glad I no longer depend on them. Still many nights I may lay awake for a while ... but then I check the Guardians thread lol :D

I like the squirrel ... and the all the snow you got :D

A Canadian squirrel says "Hi" to her British counterpart

Thanks Dan, I suffered with insomnia a lot a few years ago, now it's just the odd night, but it's not often I get a great night's sleep. I also suffer with sleep apnea, which certainly doesn't help. Shift work can really mess up your sleep, I never did enough of it to get used to it, but I was young, and could manage OK. I'm glad you no longer have to work nights, and that you no longer need to take the sleeping pills. My father used to take them in the 1980's, but I have always been very wary of trying anything like that. I do sometimes take a couple of co-codomol tablets when I go to bed, if my back is bad, or my arthritis, as the pain keeps me awake otherwise. I hope you don't get too many sleepless nights my friend :) Great pic Dan, mine was just taken through the window this morning. The snow has caused a great deal of disruption here

Liked except for the squirrel, of course.

No covid detected in my test from yesterday, by the way. [No smiley face looks happy enough.]
I was expecting "positive" or "negative", but apparently they have so much confidence in our state of knowledge, that the best they can say is "none detected, but that doesn't mean it isn't there." I'll take it.
